Chapter 5 Aim of the Project

"In the consumer products industry, upwards of 85 percent of new products fail after a couple of years in the market." John P. Mello Jr. (2006).
This was stated according to a research conducted by Forrester Research Inc (http://www.forrester.com)which is an independent research company that provides pragmatic & future advice to global leaders in businesses & Technology. This survey had addressed a severe issue that most of the organizations faces presently. Why would the product fall from the market? And what could we do to improve it? Brainstorming session on the internet would be an ideal way to discover the current market trends and consumer likeness. More over it may help you to build product that would be aimed for future or on how to improve on the current sales or of the service that they provide.

This project aims in developing a formula in contrast with traditional brainstorming to Brainstorm with the use of Internet which will enable in identifying the current trends and carrying out online surveys such as survey to identify certain demands to products & so on. Companies which are experiencing economic crunch as well whom plans in moving on to the International market will benefit from this formula mainly. This will be helpful to use their creativity to brand their products on to international market. In addition this could be used by any individual for as a decision making tool as well as for a pioneer who’s hoping to develop something new, unique & Innovative.

Chapter 6 Introduction

Ever wanted to generate a unique innovative solution to a problem that never seems to get solved? Who had been there to take advice from a known person of that subject?
This project is undertaken to investigate into the new trends of developing bright ideas along with utilizing the resources, tools & community on Internet which on whole surely, helps to meet the business objectives at the end of the day. It would be to decide on a promotion of a new or prevailing product market, a technical solution to a complex problem or simply any problem.

Simply anyone could benefit from Brainstorming either its single person or a group. At Industrial point of view Brainstorming plays an essential role. Each Industry has business objectives, which includes making revenue from their services, products. Even now and then they have to compete with other parties. It is crucial to compete on market if they were not unique, revolutionized or armed with something unusual and innovative. So Brainstorming is an ideal tool for industry. Brainstorming session could be conducted either on the Internet or traditional way. The report intends to develop on the topic Brainstorming on Internet and later on to tackle between the concepts of Brainstorming on the Internet & the traditional way.

Chapter 7 Overview and Research methods

The structure of the project report is as follows. First and fore mostly the report defines a clear understanding of the term brainstorming and discuss of its history.

Secondly, it outlines a set of rules that are recommended for the implementation of a brainstorming session.
Thirdly, the report illustrates a study conducted on how to do a traditional brainstorm session.
Fourthly, the report demonstrates a formula to Brainstorm on the Internet which had been developed by considering various aspects of brainstorming and what Internet has to offer.
Finally, according to above investigation the report will draw conclusions and critically evaluate on the formula that had been developed.

Variety of materials was used to consolidate this report such as Online learning facilities, Books & other. Primarily vast amount of the information was acquired from the Internet as most of the related materials were not available on library. Moreover Internet has access to variety of information such as white papers, conducted surveys, information of new trends and various types of documentations (Presentations, PDF’s & etc). The investigation on “Brainstorming on the Internet” was widely carried out on limitless sources ranging from the internet to books, journals. Then all the content was filtered recognizing its validity, recognition and reliability.

Chapter 8 What is Brainstorming?

Dawn of the Brainstorming pioneered from 1940s into the industry, with integration to many business models. Earlier there weren’t many definitions or clear process of handling ideas; it became popularity soon after the publication of the book “Applied Imagination”. Alex Osborn who had been the author of the book described brainstorm as “a conference technique by which a group attempts to find a solution for a specific problem by amassing all the ideas spontaneously by its members". Alex Osborn had set a clear foundation on to the growth of Brainstorming.

Brainstorming could be simply defined as the process of generating unique, innovative ideas. This includes creative thinking, collaborations from variety of personalities in order to obtain better results. Brain is store of ideas, which will come with each person’s background, influences and etc. Storm is a where various factors of nature such as wind, rain, sand, snow comes together. So each individual allows his\her creative thinking to storm.

According to Osborn Brainstorming also could be called as a technique that entitles with a set of rules.

Chapter 9 Rules of Brainstorming

Why do we need rules? Same as school needs discipline; it is vital for a Brainstorming session to employ it so as to get the optimum best results out of the limited time frame. Following underline the general rules that a brainstorming session should implement according to Infinite Innovations Ltd (www.brainstorming.co.uk).
• No judgment, criticism, evaluation on the Ideas been put forward by the participants.
• Participants should be made comfortable into expressing the wildest ideas whether they are out of the blue or crazy
• Encourage, motivate, push participants and collect more ideas as possible
• Should not duplicate on the same idea rather build on it

Chapter 10 Traditional Brainstorming

Traditional Brainstorming could be defined One of the custom or known way on how brainstorming sessions been carried out.
10.1 Preparation

10.1.1 Appoint a suitable Facilitator
Appointing a suitable facilitator is the key preparation before the brainstorm session. The Facilitator should posses the qualities required for the Brainstorm and should know toughly of brainstorm or have experience of it if not it would generate bad results. Some of the crucial qualities as follow

a. Define the problem
Before the Brainstorm It’s essential that the facilitator go through and prepare the problem, the issue or the opportunity that the Brainstorm is summoned for.

b. Carry out Brainstorm rules
Facilitator should take the responsibility of applying the set of law of
Brainstorming. These rules are discussed in the topic Brainstorming Rules

c. Produce Humor
Producing humor is seen as an imperative element of brainstorming session. The sole purpose of this is to make the participants more comfortable to open discussion as well as to lead out wildest thoughts that they could think of.

d. Time Limit
There is a Time boundary for any brainstorm session; this depends on how continuous an average individual could concentrate on that particular subject. So Facilitator should be Responsible for the Time management, As Brainstorm session includes group of people from different educational, and background levels so they may get carried away from the objective or of the aim of the whole brainstorm session and there will be a Limited d.

10.1.2 Suitable Venue & atmosphere
It’s vital for the successful brainstorm session to locate an appropriate venue to host it. The ideal Venue should be peaceful with no disturbance & the atmosphere in the room should be comforting. Also the participants should be settled in a circular format, so everyone is at the same level and everyone’s contributions and ideas could be taken in with ease. A main aspect of a good atmosphere includes the lightning of the room. If the lights are too much it would be disturbing to the eyes. Also the telecommunication devices such as telephones, mobiles should be set off to silent or should be asked to shut off as it may distract the ability to think creative when session is on sensitive topic and requires all the attention that could muster.

10.1.3 Arrange Participants
According to the topic area members should be set apart. For e.g. If the brainstorm is about technical development it is essential to participate members who have sufficient knowledge to understand its basics. Another constrain deciding on participants is the Venue, which has a certain limited level of space. As a result it would be vital to make sure that necessary individuals who hold the ability to think creatively should be given a chance.

In Addition These Participants should be prior notified about the subject, venue, date & time. Failure to do so will result in missing ideas & contribution to the brainstorm session.

Moreover a dedicated quick writer should be arranged like a secretary to note down all the ideas & suggestions so as to make sure not to neglect nor forget the ideas.

10.1.4 Preparation of Materials
If the brainstorm session has a need of materials such as presentation or handouts E.g. Statistics report such as monthly income statement, technology comparison matrix report or a survey been conducted to analysis of the likeness of certain streams, so those should be prepared as a hardcopy so as its easy to concentrate. More over if the brainstorm session hopes to utilize technical equipments, those should be arranged too for instance if presentation had been arranged, a Projector & necessary devices should be allocated and should be assembled at the location at least 1 hour prior to the commencement. It is also suggested to use a whiteboard on a brainstorm session so as to make it more interactive during the brainstorm session to build a on other peoples bright ideas. It may even be good to arrange a video Camera so the ideas & the expressions are not lost and it may even recall or pop up another bright idea watching it over again & again.

10.2 Carrying out the Traditional Brainstorm Session
After preliminary stages finale, following are the lists the steps on how to carry out a Traditional Brainstorming session,

10.2.1 Describe the Problem

In Step 1 the problem, opportunity or issue should be demonstrated from the scratch by the Facilitator. It’s crucial that the facilitator sets the foundation to carry out the whole brainstorm session. Considerate time should be taken to clearly reveal the problem or the opportunity if not it may lead to imperfect results and would take no where.

Finally at this step Facilitator should ensure that everyone clearly understands the problem area and is the aim of the session is apparent before proceeding to share their thoughts.

10.2.2 Time Limit, Rules & Problem

After Problem is exposed out, time limits should be set to brainstorm certain stages of the problem or opportunity area. It would be convenient to breakdown the problem into smaller chunks. So each aspect of the issue is taken into custody and finally all the best ideas could be summoned to generate the final solution.

More over within this limited time it is essential to discipline with the rules of the brainstorm session that would be presented by the facilitator as a measure to make sure that at the end of the day the brainstorm session was a successful.

10.2.3 Brainstorm

At this step, each individual member should be queried and been engaged by the facilitator to make it more successful. More over at this stage the ideas must not be criticize or put on to judgment because criticism will make some individual laid back to present their ideas. Like in news, ideas are just ideas there are no right or wrong in it. It is the crisis or depending on the opportunity we should decide on the chances and risks of doing something right or wrong to get through it.

Facilitator should be held responsible in managing the criticism and to press on the participants to think of wildest ideas. Furthermore at this point the quantity of the ideas is essential not the quality of it, as progresses should focus on building on the ideas that were been put forward. It is also important that everyone is given few seconds before each idea to think about it and to allow them to come up with something new. Meantime everyone should be made comfortable and should be made enjoyable. Facilitator ought not to show favors to certain personalities, this should be a group effort so it is necessary that he speaks the term ‘we’ to demonstrate it’s a group activity and all should be a part of it.

Additionally Facilitator should purge the irrelevant ideas that are not related to the topic or either when the discussion is going off the track. How ever facilitator should encourage everyone to smile this way everyone would feel involved and would make it fun to present them self.

If the facilitator equipped with a whiteboard, at this time Facilitator could log it on the whiteboard where everyone could see. This enables participants not to duplicate on the same idea as well as allows them to build upon another person’s idea to make it more effective and fruitful.

Dedicated person who had been allocated should start scratching to ensure that all the ideas been spoken during the session were noted down in understandable format.

10.2.4 Evaluate & Categorize Ideas

A brainstorm commences with a clear understanding of the problem or the opportunity and finish off with raw list of ideas. This list includes ideas good as well as bad ones. At this time analyzing the long list of ideas thoroughly and considering the possibilities of matching solution to the problem. According to that it should be categorized mainly into the following sections

1. Excellent
Defines when a certain idea follows to solve the problem or the best way to act upon the opportunity. These ideas could be put into practice with immediate effect and could expect great results.

2. Interesting
This section includes the ideas that are worth to be implemented , may not be a solution for the problem but will have a good impact or it is more required to work over the idea to decide if they work out or it may work in future.

3. Useless
The ideas falls into this category could be characterized as ideas which appear to be out of objective or the overall aim. Even on long term run these ideas may become worn out.

Chapter 11 Brainstorming on the Internet

11.1 Preparation

The Participants should have the following facilities Computer, network connectivity to Internet and a webcam or microphone if it is required to connect via audio/video media. It would also be required for the participants to choose their environment which would be ideal as for what they think is good.

11.2 Carrying out the Brainstorm Session on the Clouds

11.2.1 Broaden the problem

At this stage the problem area or the opportunity at hand should be clearly written descriptive. Later the description should be cut into smaller chunks.
Use of Search Engines
Internet defined as a network in networks including all the sources of information ranging from media and live real time feeds of a sport match.
With Internet any information is at the fingertips. To obtain the expected information from the Internet the aim and should have a do list otherwise with overloaded information it may lead to no where.
Search engines are key area to locate the massive information from the web. Search engines stores their information based on ‘keywords’. Keywords are a simple termed word to cover off that particular information in a best suited manner.

11.2.3 Present the content
The content should be prepared into a presentable manner in electronic format, unlike in writing materials electronic writing should enable users to interact, eye catching and information should be in easy understandable format at a glance.

One major consideration while doing Internet brainstorm is whether the content is published to public domain or selected number of participants. This is due to disclosure of the organization information. Public domain is considered as everyone of the whole world, as for private domain includes only the invitees that are intended no one apart from it could access the information. According to this consideration the contents should be finalized and adjusted but even then sufficient knowledge of information should be presented so as to capture a good solution.

11.2.4 Publish to Online media

This stage concerns more in posting or publishing the produced contents to online media.

Media Comes in variety of ways, following lists the major ways of publishing the contents. 1. Online Groups, Forums
Groups & Forums are online communities where the members gather around. Most of these types of services require registration before posting on as a security measure so as to avoid spamming on the discussion.

Popular groups on the internet are Google groups (http://groups.google.com), Yahoo groups (http://groups.yahoo), News groups.

More over Answers groups such as Yahoo answers (http://answers.yahoo.com), Answers (http://www.answers.com) had taken a rapid growth because of its ability to assist public to seek solutions to their problems as well as to share the information among real people around the world. In addition the originator, who posts the problem at the end opts the best answer from the rest of the other answers which will enable the members to receive points.

2. Social Communities

Could social communities play a role? According to George Lenard (2008) “The survey, conducted by the Institute for Corporate Productivity (i4cp – formerly HRI) revealed that 65% of business professionals are clicking and connecting via personal and professional social networking Web sites” I4cp (http://www.i4cp.com/Default.aspx) is the world’s largest supplier of solutions to improve the efficiency of the employees. As most of professional level consumers involved in such communities it would be and ideal place to perform survey. One of the main advantages of utilizing social communities is to save time seeking for high professionalized consultants and would help great cost cuttings that a usual consultant would cost for the work.

E.g. :- Face Book (http://facebook.com), Yahoo! 360(http://360.yahoo.com/), Hi5 (www.hi5.com) and MySpace(http://www.myspace.com/)

3. Video broadcast

At present video broadcasting had been categorized as a valuable asset because of its recent popularity among the society ranging from all age stages. Video broadcasting had been used to broadcast on Television but with the immerging technological revolution it had been made possible not only to watch broadcast but also to broadcast what you want. Such growing network is Youtube and according to Richard MacManus (2008) “YouTube currently has 13hrs of video uploaded per minute! It streams hundreds of millions videos per day.”

For an example if you wanted to test a main speech that you are required to give on occasion, you could film it up the sketch and post it to inquiry your watchers to leave comments on how to improve verbally as well as the body language.

E.g. MetaCafe (metacafe.com), YouTube (youtube.com)

4. Mailing List

Mailing list is the technique of performing a discussion using the email technology. The originator would be usually transmitting an email stating the problem or the opportunity at hand along with an inquiry of the actions to all the recipients. The recipients act as participants of a normal brainstorm session and would be suggesting their opinion on the matter not only to the originator but also to all of the addresses that the originator had sent out. Thus it will enable the participants to build upon ideas and to keep track of them.

There are main several disadvantages of using this method. Firstly the Mail quota limitation, every individual who owns an email address have limited amount of space inside the mailbox. At present an average business person will receive lot of emails which includes business relating emails, emails from friends and family, and the spammers that could a result in over running the space limit. As a result the emails may not be delivered on to the recipients email box due to the quota exceeding. In addition Issues related to Mail server system mail also results in lost of the email or at a delay.

Another aspect of the email is the ability to intercept and is liable for theft, in case someone would lay off the thoroughly developed brainstorming solution into a competitor of the organization. To overcome these types to best practice would be to copyright the material and apply a digital signature along with encryption.

Mailing list defines the meaning of a list of email address. This is also could be called as newsgroups.

5. Online Workspaces

Online workspace is similar to an ordinary work place but with the online workplace you tend to get better as its ability to version the documents, to collaborate more effectively, securely and most importantly at real time. Online workspace is ideal way to manage, organize and share across the organization, consumers and other intended parties. At some point data exchange is a cumbersome task that most of the organizations facing. But with the use of the online workspace it would be updated to internet standard so everyone is entitled to work on their documents where ever they are. More over using online workspace could reduce the amount of costs that organization that has to undergo when purchasing software’s such a Microsoft Office and so forth.

E.g. Google Docs (http://docs.google.com), Office Live space (http://workspace.officelive.com)
Another growing popular workspace is Bubbl.us (http://bubbl.us/).This provides a free web application to carry out brainstorming session online with the use of brainstorming tools such as mind mapping. This service is provided free of charge, and like other media an online account will be required to use this service.

6. Put on Blog
As stated by Sharquenta Wells (2008) “Blogs are a great way to establish thought leadership, and further to encourage lead generation. Blogging allows you to create positive experiences with your customers. Blogs build a sense of conversation in that you do get to open a dialog with your readers. Blogs allow you to plug products and services by using a conversational style. That is the hallmark of a good blog which allows you to share business products in a friendly way.” On the context of business blogs could be used as a tool to share wildest ideas, it’s like your private space on the web. You could ask your viewers to comment about it. For an instance Gmail or the Google Mail (http://mail.google.com) who’s providing the most popular email facility on the web uses a blog officially (http://gmailblog.blogspot.com) to keep the email users update and informed of the new features as well as the way its heading and more over including the readers to make a discussion regarding to that or how it had changed their life style. This way it enables them to build upon the ideas of the viewers and market the product beating their competitors.

11.2.4 Brainstorming

At this stage after posting of the contents via any of the stated ways, it would open up a discussion between the recipients that had been shared information with. As in a normal discussion it would pace up to receive lot of feedback, add-ons, suggestions and questions if they are still things to be clarified of something unclear. It would be the originator’s responsibility to guide through the discussion until good, reliable and practical ideas were made over so as to overcome the originators problems or as an act to do the best at the opportunity in hand. More over it is essential that the originator make frequent visits to the media to check on the updates failure to do so will result in poor results.

11.2.5 Feedback & evaluation

Allow ratings and voting for the new Ideas generated Hosting a brainstorming session on the internet would make the end results much accurate due to Internet’s ability to allow ratings, voting, filtering and to follow up on ideas. For example if some one made a comment on a Yahoo Answer, other viewers could rate whether they agreed with other point of view. This way the originator could save time by filtering out the essential sections of the discussed options into categories similarly as done on a Traditional brainstorm session (see Step 4 Evaluate & Categorize Ideas).

Chapter 12 Benefits of Brainstorming on the Internet

12.1 Builds Team from various cultural and races

Traditional brainstorm session whether the participants were from within the organization or outside it the brainstorm session helps to build team spirit and mutual understanding between the participants. Same lays when the brainstorm is done on the Internet, This not only helps mutually understand each other but also helps to meet international level contacts along with knowledge sharing across nations.

12.2 Unlimited participants for Unlimited Ideas

Why waste your time and resources? With the ability to brainstorm on the internet, it makes it convenient for the main stakeholder whom must decide on to seek a solution to the problem. As what he needs to does is to present the problem clearly and post it on to web. Even for individual problem solving, brainstorm session evolve unlimited participants. This would greatly over come the limitations of traditional brainstorming where number of participants is limited on to the size of the venue could accommodate.

12.3 May not have conflicts between participants

At sometimes there may be situation where the individuals ideas conflicts when performing the traditional brainstorm session. As a result some tiff will arise within the team which will result in decrease productivity. The facilitator responsibility would be to make sure that it participants take part on the session smoothly. On Brainstorming on the internet this would allow significant decrease in conflicts as there are resources and online collaboration between lots of individuals. Even if there were conflicts it will not matter as it’s not in real life and would be inside the range of the forum.

12.4 Quick and easier

At present Internet works round the clock, Incase a brainstorming solution required by tomorrow morning you could post it and be at your peace to see yourself full of ideas next day. Increases of new Internet technology boosted the speed of the work, for example Spellings & grammar checks as you type in different languages.

More over Traditional brainstorm session lasts for Limited Time frame. There could be a possibility where Some Individuals ideas could spark after the brainstorm session while on their way home thinking of the brainstorm session thoughts. In contrast Brainstorming on the Internet makes possible others to post and repost on the changes and out of it could enable to have it the session on for longer period than traditional brainstorm session.

Furthermore with Internet brainstorming the individuals who are to participate on the brainstorm could rather push into idea and post their ideas at leisure time than on exhausted working time.

12.5 Saves Time & Resources

Organizing a meeting includes expenses such as arranging participants which could be employees of the organization or if outside participants are invited; reserving a venue. With Brainstorming on the internet it had made possible to host a brainstorm session without a reserving a venue and as not to use an employees or consultants outside which costs to pay from their usual work time or the consultancy time.

Additionally Resources includes materials such as for handouts or for any equipment been taken for rent such as projectors, laptops & chairs. So in contrast with Traditional brainstorming this is lays to save lot of costs. Further most the limited number of participants to a particular venue definitely leads to missing personalities that would have definitely add some value to the brainstorm session. For an example in such cases the organization may categorize senior members of the organization to participate but a new personal that came in recently might have more value comparing to them. As a result of it brainstorm session may not provide the best results.

Online brainstorming tools such as Mind mapping were provided by Bubbl.us (http://bubbl.us/) makes brainstorming effective, interactive and fun. Everyone is entitled to pilot on the original design of the mind map enabling them to produce a bright idea. Best of all it could be versioned onto various versions. It would greatly assist the originator organize and made a clear solution and keeping it on safe place. As it’s on Internet it would be reliable than keeping it on the local machine. At present most of the website implements backup solutions and most of all the portability enables the participants and the facilitator to work out from anywhere on the world.

12.6 Easy Access to Information, Resources & Popularities

Does it requires Information & figures on a brainstorm session? Yes, it’s a must. For an example if a brainstorm session is hosted to perform a marketing solution to promote a product, first of all you may required to analyze the current demanding trends for a product already at the market so as to make the certain improvements. Or if you’re conduct a brainstorm session to develop a News paper advertisement, you may required to study and analyze some newspapers and decide on something innovative and unique from the exist sting advertisements so as to attract the consumers.

Additionally one of the main advantages over the internet brainstorming is the ability of understanding the current popularities among the social society, seeks interests and demands. At present Internet is much more popular place to meet new bunch of people such social web sites are Facebook (facebook.com), Hi5 (hi5.com), Google groups (groups.google.com), Yahoo groups (groups.yahoo.com), Yahoo answers (answers.yahoo.com),Answers (answers.com) and etc.
Considering an example if you are to carry out a brainstorm session regarding market product targeting the teenagers it’ll be easy to carry out a survey utilizing the above web tools. More over websites such as bubbl.us enables anyone from the internet to perform a brainstorm session online. Bubbl.us is bundled with tools like Mind mapping which useful to identify the flaw of the ideas as wells as to build upon an idea.

12.7 Avoid Risks of bad brainstorming session

In contrast to Traditional brainstorming, Internet brainstorming doesn’t requires a facilitator usually the originator of the post will be the facilitator of the session. This way the petitioner could guide through the discussions within the Internet until he gets the certain results out. Apart from that to host a Traditional Brainstorm session a good facilitator is required who’s equipped with necessary skills otherwise his lack of knowledge in Brainstorming might make a calamity. As a result it would end up in utter waste of time taking the session nowhere. Considering the above situation you may hire such personals from consultancies service which will result in bearing up huge expenses.

12.8 Filter out the necessary details easily

As traditional in Traditional brainstorming session, Internet Brainstorm also generates raw list of ideas. Going through them and evaluating them is considered to be cumbersome tasks due to the fact that some are relating to each other, there may be duplicated idea occurrence and so forth. But considering Internet Brainstorming with the use of technology it allows to voting’s, commentary and filtering of the contents depending on requirement of what ideas would really work out.

12.9 “Capture better ideas and create better solutions.

Studies show that electronic brainstorming generates more and better ideas from parallel idea generation and more open group discussion. Web-based tools better organize ideas, help participants make immediate decisions, save time, and improve quality and quantity of results. In a matter of hours, managers at the state utility listed over 200 organizational issues—a process that would ordinarily take two days and generate far fewer issues”
Thaddius Panik & Julia Young, & Grant Thornton

According to the above source from Facilitate.com, Inc it demonstrates the gap between Traditional brainstorming and brainstorming on the Internet. Facilitate.com, Inc (http://www.facilitatepro.org/company.htm) has been on business in the development and application of collaboration software tools and facilitation techniques to enhance the collaborative work team environment since 1992. The Idea of brainstorming on the Internet had been put into action by their latest web based software product which allows hosting a virtual meeting or rather conducting a brainstorm session right on the internet for extreme efficiency. Accordingly all the benefits of the Internet (as discussed in this chapter) get bundled up to the brainstorming session.

Chapter 13 Conclusions & Evaluation

According to John P. Mello (2006) "In the consumer products industry, upwards of 85 percent of new products fail after a couple of years in the market” as discussed (in the Chapter 05 Aim of the project) would be evidence for the current crisis that had been faced by the industry. The report had presented a key solution to the problem as to conduct a brainstorm session. The force, the procedures of developing creative, innovative solutions that would truly works. Brainstorming then divides on two segments Traditional Brainstorming and Brainstorming on the Internet.
Even though traditional brainstorming had thrived on, with in the context of the past, it had reaped lots of beneficial solutions. But yet with the current emerging trends, traditional brainstorming sessions appears to be not suiting the current requirments, obsolete and requires consuming time, resources, and money largely. The report conveys its significance by firstly presenting main aspects in conducting a traditional brainstorming session, secondly presenting the key portions of performing a brainstorming session the internet with a research conducted on the internet itself. Internet had been the main source of information flow, due to its popularity.

Brainstorming on the Internet would be the new trend that would come and at present been taken lightly with the current new trend. At present people are getting more complex problems, each day is a challenging day. Even for the same problem same solution may not work out right. As a result most of the people feel given up, stressed at work and most of all they’ll be terrified to make decisions. Every problem that happens is identified as a set back that had happened to them. Even they feared on to tell it to their manager or boss. More over they wouldn’t want to tell anyone of their problems and they tend to act reluctant to perform a traditional brainstorm session for their problems. With the use of this project anyone is expected to do the brainstorm and solve their problems in an innovative way whether by himself or as a team. More over this would be an ideal solution formula especially for third world countries for them to take part in international markets.

This project is successfully conducted to develop a formula for Brainstorming on the Internet along with a contrast with the traditional brainstorming methodology. Finally I would likes to mention that this would be a supreme formula to seek solution for global challenges such as global warming, oil, current economic crunch & etc by the internet which brings all people around globe together with humanity.

Problem Solving Theory

...I have chosen the four suggested idea-generated techniques of Brainstorming, Analogy and Cross Fertilization, Futuring and TRIZ to compare. A common thread among them is to go beyond the obvious. All are designed to generate numerous possible solutions to find an acceptable outcome. The four techniques I selected might best apply in the following situations. Brainstorming – When a person is having trouble thinking of ideas a group is formed to bounce ideas off each other. An example would be a manufacturer looking for a way to increase production. The management team would form a group to generate ideas. Once an idea is out there, others in the group can either build on it or they can use that suggestion to formulate new thoughts. I think Brainstorming starts a chain reaction in everyone’s thought process. Analogy and Cross Fertilization – A few years back we had a solar eclipse that I wanted to photograph but because of the cost for the filter I would have needed, I missed the opportunity. I started looking into other areas that have to deal with bright sunlight. My thoughts started with a person being outside on a sunny day wearing sun glasses to protect their eyes. The material used on normal sunglasses would not be dark enough to look directly at the sun and therefore would burnout the sensor on my camera. Then I started thinking about how pilots deal with flying into the sun and it turned my thoughts to aviator glasses. The lens that is used on these types of glasses...

Critical Thinking

...problem-solving tools, brainstorming and cause and effect/fishbone method. The first step we did was to define some of the problems facing Credenhill’s. The biggest problems were; sales falling continuously for the past eight weeks, (especially in the high-end product categories), legal action notice from the city, regarding a disability access law, high competition with a new store a block away, and a loss of a manager and employees to the competition, $80,000 unsold inventory, problems with the Wide Area Network (WAN), and unhappy employees. We use the Man-Method-Material-Machine format to help us organize our brainstorming solutions into categories. [pic] We started using brainstorming, all ideas presented were discussed and considered. Ideas were then added them to the fishbone under the correct category. It helped for all of us to brainstorm, generating numerous ideas to help fix the problems. After we were done with our brainstorming of ideas, each team member presented their idea more thoroughly. A letter was assigned a letter to each idea on the diagram, and each group member was given a piece of paper. On the paper we categorized the problems, causes, and ideas to fix the problem, then we went around our group, totaling the values. The highest ranking value was declining sales in the last eight weeks. We decided with more advertising, return customer coupons, e-mail coupons, improving customer service, better return policy, stocking more Internet-related and multimedia...
