Developing a common ground when writing about a topic is crucial for writing a successful research paper. Ensuring that those around me also grasp the subject I am researching is very beneficial to my writing. On February 23rd, I had the honor of interviewing a fellow classmate, Britney Ngo, on my inquiry question, how does the representation of Asian in film affect society? Her feel and understanding of the topic, as well as her possible answers to my inquiry question, were all explored criteria within the interview. Not to my surprise, Ngo’s intriguing take on Asian representation in film sheds a similar light to my point of view.
Explaining my inquiry question with as much depth as possible to Britney to gain her understanding was quite the challenge. I did not want to leave out a single particle of information that could be misinterpreted. Otherwise, Ngo would not be able to gather an opinion on the topic. I broke down my question with other questions such as do Asians get represented? How are Asians represented? What types of Asians are represented? When asked if she understood, she replied with “Yes, I fully understand the question.” The confidence in her answer made it clear that there were no …show more content…
Britney just so happened to have a personal experience with Asian representation and felt a certain way about my research. “Although the question seems light at first, it might become dark once you do more research,” she says. With the research I have already done so far, I got the gist of what she is trying to say by her comment. I have already found worrisome results but haven’t acquired enough primary sources that go more in depth about personal effects. “It is a serious topic to cover and should be addressed more in the media,” she continued.
