The book begins with William Goldman talking about himself, his family, his life, and the book (written by S. Morgenstern, of course). He says that he has edited the original manuscript and only kept “the good parts.” The actual story opens with Buttercup who is described as one of the world’s 20 most beautiful women and her life with her parents, farm, horse and their farm-boy named Westley. When Florinese royalty visits their farm, Buttercup sees the Countess watching Westley and suddenly realizes she is jealous and falls madly in love with Westley. She tells him of her love, and immediately after, he leaves for America to seek his fortune. Soon after he has left, he is said to have been attacked and killed by the Dread Pirate Roberts. Then and…show more content… Humperdinck lies to Buttercup by telling that he sent his fastest four ships to find Westley. She finally discovers he is lying and calls him weak. Humperdink leaves in a rage to kill Westley with the torture machine in the Zoo of Death. Westley’s scream is heard all around. Inigo and Fezzik hear it and they trace it to the Zoo of Death. Inigo and Fezzik find the secret entrance and the highlights of this underground journey include a ravenous snake and King bats, Fezzik and Inigo each save each other’s life. They find the corpse of Westley and take him to Miracle Max, a former miracle worker for the king. He and his wife reluctantly make a pill to bring Westley back to life. Inigo and Fezzik bring Westley to the top of the castle wall where they force the pill down his throat. Westley wakes from death and comes up with a plan for them to get inside the castle. The plan involves frightening the guards, and it works well. The last chapter tells of the final feats of the main characters.
