Theme one: A fair working environment means everything to me.
As an overseas student in Australia since high school, I have always expected to be treated equally regardless of my race, gender or age. In high school when I was new to the country, I endured the negative experience of being rejected by local students due to my limited English and cultural background. As a result, I felt isolated and lacked confidence to participate in group discussions. This has affected me significantly as my expectations of a job with a fair, harmonious working environment in the future were disproved. My interview with my significant other revealed that I was always sensitive about being treated differently than others and easily influenced by this in relation to my work performance. This indicates that the level of my performance on the job would be proportional to the way I am being treated. In my ideal job description section, I stated that working in an unbiased workplace would fuel my satisfaction associated with my job. A vibrant positive work environment would create a sense of inner harmony for me. This was consistent with results in the Work Value Inventory, where I scored 16/16 for ‘fairness’ indicating my expectation for a workplace which treats workers equally. My previous manager in Pando co was an impartial employer who recruited individuals from different nationalities. I felt like everyone was being fairly trained and compensated. I felt happy and was further motivated to contribute my efforts leading to success in my work. From my perspective, a fair, righteous working environment helps increase my satisfaction at work and ultimately increases my job performance.
Theme two: I am good at dealing with stress
While there are many people who falter when encountering different types of stressful situations, I personally think that stress can be easily dealt with by

Hr Task 3 Speaker Notes

...Speaker Notes Slide 1: Introduction: Today we will be addressing the advantages of implementing an employee performance evaluation program and look at the advantages to the company from its use. We will also be talking about succession planning which aligns itself neatly with the evaluation program. Often Employee evaluations are seen as something burdensome by managers and useless or unfair by the direct reports who have been evaluated. Today we will address some of these concerns and look specifically at: benefits of employee evaluations, pre-appraisal activities/benefits, proper delivery of appraisal results, using evaluations to build value for the company, follow up process and furthering employees’ career goals, what models are being used, and team performance vs. individual performance. The latter portion of today’s presentation will be about the career succession planning process, and like the evaluation system, how this helps both the employee and the company. Slide 2: What are the positive results from a well prepared and well delivered appraisal? If anyone has had the occasion to be evaluated by a supervisor in the work place I would ask you to dwell for a moment on how the message was delivered. All too often in my personal experience I was left wanting after the evaluation process was finished. I have also been asked to write my own appraisals of my performance because my manager was too busy or uninterested in providing feedback of my performance. This...

Introduction to Career Development

...Introduction to Career Development Research Project May 11, 2013 Introduction Career development researchers pay little attention to the career experiences of persons with disabilities (Niles & Harris-Bowlsbey, 2002). Even scholars who call on the profession to engage in more advocacy often fail to identify the near silence that exists on behalf of persons with disabilities (Niles & Harris Bowlsbey, 2002). Clearly, this is an embarrassing, and inexcusable, gap in the career development literature (Niles & Harris Bowlsbey, 2002). Based on the Participation and Activity Limitation Survey (PALS) of 2006, people with disabilities make up 16.5% of the adult population 15 years and older in Canada, or nearly 4.2 million people (Counsel of Canadians with Disabilities, 2013). People classified as having a disability in PALS are those who indicate any difficulty hearing, seeing, communicating, walking, climbing stairs, bending, learning or doing any similar activities or who have a physical condition or mental condition or health problem that reduces the amount or kind of activity they can do at home, work or school or in other activities such as transportation or leisure (Counsel of Canadians with Disabilities, 2013). The purpose of this paper is to illustrate the unique career considerations of the disabled in the career counseling process. Three career counseling services will be illustrated that will meet...

Decided Students

...and “In Transition”: Implications for Academic Advisement, Career Counseling, & Student Retention Joe Cuseo Introduction The objective of this article is twofold: (a) to critically review research on how students’ process of decision making with respect to selecting college majors and careers relates to their persistence in college, and (b) to tease-out practical implications of this research for improving the academic advisement, long-range planning, and retention of first-year students. The majority of new students entering higher education leave their initial college of choice without completing a degree (Tinto, 1993), and national attrition rates have been increasing since the early 1980s at two-year and four-year institutions, both public and private (Postsecondary Education Opportunity, 2002). At all types of higher education institutions, including highly selective colleges and universities, the most critical period or stage of vulnerability for student attrition continues to be the first year of college (“Learning Slope,” 1991). More than half of all students who withdraw from college do so during their first year (Consortium for Student Retention Data Exchange, 1999), resulting in a first-year attrition rate of more than 25% at four-year institutions, and approximately 50% at two-year institutions (ACT, 2003). Retention research suggests that student commitment to educational and career goals is perhaps the strongest factor associated with persistence...

Why the Shortage of Nurses Should Mat Ter

...Who Cares? Why the Shortageof Nurses Should Matter Dondi A. Dancy Webster University INTRODUCTION The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) projects that between calendar years 2001 and 2018 the most significant increase in job growth will occur in the healthcare industry, primarily within the nursing sector. Registered Nurses (more commonly known as RNs) complete an Associate degree nursing program (ASN) or higher (BSN, MSN, ND, DNSc, or DNP). Every healthcare experience involves the knowledge, support, and comfort of an RN – they are a large, diverse group who are integral to and in the delivery of healthcare. In fact, the Society of Human Resources Management (SHRM) Job Satisfaction 2010 survey indicates that nursing is the only “profession offering genuine opportunity for meaningful work.” The Employment Projections 2010-2020 profile suggests that there are 3.5 million licensed RNs working in various settings across the United States - which effectively means that RNs represents the single largest group of healthcare professionals in the United States; Wanted Analytics reported in December 2012 of 121,000 newly placed classified advertisements seeking RNs to fill positions in various settings to include schools, hospitals, long-term care facilities, companies, and staffing firms during the months of October and November 2012; and the National Institute of Medicine confirms that between 2005 and 2012 the nursing sector experienced average annual growth of twenty-three...
