Case Study: L. C. And Jean Light's Crafting

Interview Project After completing my interviews with local businessmen, Dale Coleman, Owner of CES Coleman Environmental Services, L.L.C. and Jean Light, Owner of Light’s Crafting, I realized that there are many different perceptions in a community concerning schools. While discussing the question for the interview with both business people, it became obvious that they both feel that for the most part the community views the school in a positive manner. Mrs. Light said, she thinks it is because the community is small and has a history of families attending for generations. Where as, Mr. Coleman said that he feels Common Core caused a stir last year due to a lack of people providing educated information on what is was actually encompassing. Both parties agreed that parents are well informed about the school rules and consequences through the “handbook” and parent night meetings at the beginning of the year. Mrs. Light also mentioned that the handbook was available on the school’s website. When asked about how the faculty and staff speak of each other and the school, both people stated that they felt most of the …show more content…
Light and Mr. Coleman said they know the district and school has a vision and mission statement. However, neither could say they knew what it is or that there was any community input or buy in. They did say the school leadership was out among the students regularly, talking and observing. Parents are encouraged to come visit the school, talk to teachers and administration. The school has both a website and a Facebook page through which the community is informed of things going on at the school. Through these avenues you can contact the leadership, ask questions and see pictures of what is going on in the school. In addition, teachers send weekly schedules home with the students, notes are made in assignment pads, and reminders are sent home and text messages, emails and phone calls are exchanged between parents and teachers
