Catharine Beecher is most well known for being an an American educator and for her forthright opinions on female education, as well as her support in the benefits of incorporating kindergarten into children’s education. She was born on September 6, 1800 and was the daughter of two religious leaders. She was homeschooled until the age of ten. She was then sent to a private school in Litchfield, Connecticut. There, she was taught like most other young women at that time, with a limited curriculum. Since the curriculum was so limited, she taught herself subjects that weren’t offered to women, like: math, Latin, and philosophy.
