News Paper article: Anti-Federalist vs. Federalist

In a monarchy, the people have no say in the government, and if anti-federalist we would be living in a monarchy. This would cause chaos and hostility amongst the citizens of the nation, and sway the congress of the United States to continue in its federalist ideals and views.

The feud between federalist and anti-federalist prolonged for quite awhile. It’s good that we really went over the views of both sides before deciding which one would be incorporated in to running this country. The federalist, in many peoples opinion was more for the people. Federalist wanted to do business with England. The federalist wanted a strong central government. They wanted a central bank and a federal army. Federalist also was strongly against slavery and wanted to terminate it. “It is evident that each department should have a will of its own; and consequently should be so constituted that the members of each should have as little agency as possible in the appointment of the members of the others … But the great security against a gradual concentration of the several powers in the same department consists in giving to those who administer each department the necessary constitutional means and personal motives to resist encroachments of the others.” “In republican government, the legislative authority necessarily predominates.” “In framing a government which is to be administered by men over men, the great difficulty lies in this: you must first enable the government to control the governed; and in the next place oblige it to control itself.”- Federalist papers No. 51. "A pure democracy can admit no cure for the mischiefs of faction. A common passion or interest will be felt by a majority, and there is nothing to check the inducements to sacrifice the weaker party. Hence it is, that democracies have ever been found incompatible with personal security or the rights of property; and have, in general, been as short in their lives as they have been violent in their deaths."

Oppositely the anti-federalist was not the same as the federalist. Hence the “anti.” Anti-federalist were more for the government and less for the people. The anti-federalist worried that a strong federal government would strip them of their rights and freedom. Anti-federalist saw England not as an ally and did not want to do business with them. They instead wanted to do business with France. They did not see why we must have a need for federal soldiers and central bank. They also wanted slavery to continue. “As long as we can preserve our unalienable rights, we are in safety.“- Anti-federalist papers, “Foreign Wars, Civil Wars, and Indian Wars—Three Bugbears.” "The Congress may construe every purpose for which the state legislatures now lay taxes, to be for the general welfare, and thereby seize upon every object of revenue." "The objects of jurisdiction…, are so numerous, and the shades of distinction between civil causes are oftentimes so slight, that it is more than probable that the state judicatories would be wholly superceded; for in contests about jurisdiction, the federal court, as the most powerful, would ever prevail." “It is the opinion of the greatest writers, that a very extensive country cannot be governed on democratical principles, on any other plan, than a confederation of a number of small republics, possessing all the powers of internal government, but united in the management of their foreign and general concerns." – Anti-federalist papers, Centinel No. 1. The anti-federalist was to negative in wanting the government to stay exactly the same. If that were to happen, then we would be living in a monarchy. We would have no say or opinion in the United States. The federalists were more towards democracy. And that is a better decision, for the people, when trying to decide how to run a country. Also the federalists were pro demolishing slavery, when anti-federalist were not. I mean in the United States we live in today, that last statement should be the deciding factor for whether you’re for or against federalism or anti-federalism.
