INTRODUCTION China: World Economic and Manufacturing Centre Over the years China has become one of the largest economies in the world and the manufacturing centre of the world. Since the seventies, China has sought joint venture partners and encouraged technology transfer through foreign investment. Chinese firms are successfully manufacturing products on behalf of numerous foreign companies. The Chinese government provides massive contracts to foreign firms in order to build up the infrastructure required for its industrialization. Many companies establish distribution networks in China in order to benefit from the large home-market and increasing purchasing power of Chinese consumers. Last but not least, in 2008 China organized the first Olympic Games in its long history. However, businesses and governments around the world have overlooked...

...you shake hands. Remember that in the Chinese culture it is a sign of respect if they shake your hand softly and do not make eye contact. In Chine, the family name comes before the given name, and calling someone by his name is considered disrespectful unless you are close to the person. If the person’s name is Wang Lee, it is appropriate to address him as Mr. Want. If Mr. Wang is the chairmen of the organization, you would address him as Chairman Wang. (Chinese Business Etiquette, 2014) * How do you exchange business cards? Business cards are exchanged at every opportunity. Engraving your cards in gold and printing in Chinese on one side and English on the other side is encouraged. As with introductions, when you are exchanging business cards, remember to start from the senior most person in the meeting. When you receive a business card from a Chinese associate, accept it with two hands and read it before you place it in your pocket. (Chinese Business Etiquette, 2014) * How do you explain your position and your boss’s position? Given the importance of seniority in the Chinese culture, your boss should explain her position first and yours second. Use your titles and a brief description of your functions / importance to the company. * Where should you take him to lunch, and when? Lunch should be taken at the noon hour. A relaxed, quiet restaurant is preferred as the conversation will be...

...CATAMARAN HULL FORMS-PART I Prasanta K Sahoo, Australian Maritime College, Launceston, Australia Marcos Salas, University of Austral, Chile Adam Schwetz, Schwetz Design, Australia ABSTRACT Although catamaran configuration has been around for a longtime, it is only in the recent past that such hull forms have seen unprecedented growth in the high-speed ferry industry. One of the design challenges faced by naval architects is accurate prediction of the hydrodynamic characteristics of such vessels primarily in the areas of resistance, propulsion and seakeeping. Even though considerable amount of research has been carried out in this area, there remains a degree of uncertainty in the prediction of calm water resistance of catamaran hull forms. This paper attempts to present the research work carried out so far and what needs to be undertaken in future for a reasonably accurate prediction of catamaran resistance characteristics. The authors have examined the deep water wave resistance characteristics of a series of transom stern, semi-displacement slender catamaran hull forms of round bilge as well as single chine hull forms, which are of utmost importance to the high-speed ferry industry. The accuracy of the established regression equation has been seen to deviate appreciably by various sources of uncertainties. Verification of the equation with experimental database is also lacking to a certain extent. Further research is therefore needed to refine the accuracy as well as to complete...

...------------------------------------------------- Fall 2013 – Mini project “The World Is Flat” November 18, 2013 Part I “The World Is Flat” The Triple Convergence The ten world flatteners mentioned in chapter two of the book “The World is Flat” together shaped a new global platform and embraced a new workflow system. This new platform permitted the world to join forces and interconnect in ways it had never interconnected before. Thanks to this new platform, geography, time, or distance was no longer a barrier for different sides of the world to collaborate. Due to the creation of “complementary software, the internet, and political factors” (Friedman) countries like China, Russia, India and Latin America, opened their borders and led to the fast pace of globalization mentioned by Friedman. Even though these flatteners were created in the 90’s, as they came together, they had to spread, take root, and connect in order to create this flattening. It didn’t just happen overnight. Friedman mentioned in the opening of chapter two talking about his Southwest experience with them giving people the ability to print their own tickets. And then there were multiple companies developing machines that print, fax, scan, email, and make copies. Needless to say these ten factors (flatteners) that were apparently unconnected came together and create a new global platform. This new global platform (web-enabled platform) is a major part of the lives of the people in the...

...stated in the article, “Back at Georgetown in 1999, I watched a young woman seize the microphone, “Who made your t-shirt” she asked the crowd. “Was it a child in Vietnam, chained to sewing machine without food or water? Or a young girl from India earning 18 cents per hour and allowed to visit the bathroom only twice a day…” Her great interest in this fostered her to write about the many factors that put together a globalized community. Her story is narrated through the travels of the origins of a t-shirt. The t-shirt is a symbol for the globalized community and it does not only represent the tag of the production country on the t-shirt, but the entire process that is involved in this industry. Over the past two centuries many industries have shifted from the western civilization to the eastern, mainly because of cheap labor, however the cotton industry has been excelling and growing in the past two centuries. It was the ninth largest export in the United States in 2003. The story starts from a Miami based t-shirt production firm, which has “Made in China” labels on every t-shirt. The t-shirts are printed in the U.S. but the plain t-shirts, which are printed in Miami, are produce in a factory in China. The cotton that chine uses to produce these t-shirts is harvested in farms in Texas. These cotton harvests in Texas are capable of harvesting cotton for unto 1.3 million t-shirts in a year. This is what proves the U.S. cotton industry to be...

...CHAPTER I THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND This chapter presents the background of the study, problem and its significance, and the scope and delimitation of the study. Using a Banana Fiber in Paper Making makes a lot of difference in our society because it can help us grow our economic status. By just a Banana Fiber you can make a lot of stuff like paper, but not an ordinary paper. Banana Fiber paper produces a good quality paper. INTRODUCTION Banana paper is used in two different senses: to refer to a paper made from the bark of the banana tree, mainly used for artistic purposes, or paper made from banana fiber, obtained from an industrialized process, from the stem and the non- utilizable fruits. This paper can be either hand-made or made by industrialized machine. Banana fiber is a natural fiber with high strength, which can be blended easily with cotton fiber or other synthetic fibers to produce blended fabric & textiles Banana Fiber also finds use in high quality security/ currency paper, packing cloth for agriculture produce, ships towing ropes, wet drilling cables etc. Our technology includes the scientific know-how, processes, machinery and equipment necessary to convert banana tree trunk into paper. The technology is unique and fits between the conventional pulp & paper technology and the lumber veneering and custom wood technologies. The raw material for making handmade paper could be cotton linter, tailor cuttings, hosiery waste, bast...

...solution. I see five main reasons for Keda’s motivation to implement a new ERP system. * Making the decision making process more effective and efficient was a must do. With the new competitors making their way into the market Keda realized that they were falling back. Not been able to determine the cost of production, delaying important decision because of data not been readily available was some of the main reason they were falling behind the competitors which derived them to implement a new ERP. * At this time being one of the most innovative companies was rewarded by the Chines government. It was also an unofficial call by the government to all the big cooperation’s as a strategy to keep up with the international competition. * As the company was growing so did its inventory the number of where houses and also the number of inventory that is wasted and not managed properly. The ERP system was thought as a solution for this problem. * Keda was one of the most resourceful organization but the resources was not utilized properly. Compared to Japanese 90% utilization rate Keda’s was 24.6%. * Manufacturing Resource Planning (MRP II) the Legacy system at Keda could not support its expanding operations and the vendor of the system has also terminated the maintenance support. These five reasons resulted in an implementation of a new ERP system for Keda. Process implementing the...

...Corporate Responsibility and Marketing Strategies Name: Walter Zapata Funez Instructor: Dr. Ann Nelson Contemporary Business Class Strayer University 01/27/2015 1). Examine Apple’s current position on the company’s ethical and social responsibilities and determine whether or not the company has meet these responsibilities. Provide two (2) examples that support your position In addition to maximizing profits, one of the main objectives to many corporations today is to be well known for their responsible management and ethical performance. Apple is one of the most important companies throughout the world because of its size and their innovative products and services (Sanchez-Barajas, 2012). Nevertheless, innovation is what drives the sector development and the basis for the economic development. Furthermore, Apple has created about 514,000 jobs in 2011, which is an astronomical commitment to the economy (Sanchez-Barajas, 2012). Additionally, because of their business model focusing on outsourcing and their product characteristics, Apple could summarize material issues in two categories: environmental impact and supply chain management (Sanchez-Barajas, 2012). These issues seem to be the basis for understanding Apple’s corporate social responsibility. First, Apple products are designed to eliminate environmental impact, by using less energy consumption, small packages, and recycling methods (Sanchez-Barajas, 2012). However, there are criticisms with the danger...

...experience, awareness, the ability to experience "feeling", wakefulness, or the executive control system of the mind (Google definition). There are many consciousness people face as in enduring issues with the mind body relation, sleep patterns as in why do we need sleep, rhythms of sleep , sleep deprivation, sleep disorders, dreams and why do we dream. Sleep, as a human or animal we need to sleep because our body regenerates its self when it’s at rest. Humans spend at least one-third in an altered state of consciousness. When we are tired we crave to go to sleep just as if we are hungry we crave food. We can’t live without both. No human can stay p past twenty hours without feeling like they are about to crash. No one knows exactly why we need sleep but it plays and important part in restorative function. When humans are asleep there are rhythms of sleep. Circadian rhythm is a biological rhythm that last about 24 hours. There are 4 stages the sleeper enters when they fall asleep. Stage one is when the brain gives you the signal your muscles to relax. It also gives off that your heart is to beat slower and when that happens your temperature begins to drop. Stage 2 is a light sleep. You’re not fully asleep but you can be awakening. Stage 3 you are in a deeper sleep. Your blood pressure begins to get lower because your brain gives off that message. Even though the body temperature is getting lower the human that is asleep won’t notice. In this stage you can be woken but...

Here’s a way around th ose problems. In the classroom, activity-based costing looks like a great way to manage a company’s lim- ited resources. But many managers who have tried to implement ABC in their organizations on any significant scale have abandoned the at tempt in the face of rising costs and em- ployee irritation. They should try again, be- c ause the new approach we lay out in the fol- lowing pages sidesteps the difficulties traditionally associated with large-scale ABC implementation by relying on informed man- agerial estimates rather than on employee sur- ve ys. It also provides managers with a far more flexible...

...A corporation is a group of people for making profit to engage in the production, distribution, services and other economic activities to meet the need for society and people. We cannot call a corporation as a pure profit business organization because it is also “a legal person” who is not a real person, but it enjoys what people have rights and obligations. A corporation has the responsibilities to build a better social environment and create wealth for people, so the corporation not only constitutes an important part of the society but also makes a significant contribution to social development and progress. However, the development of enterprise recklessly drives to achieve maximum available profit while it neglects public interest. The video of “The Corporation” shows white bubble on the river around the chemical factories, transformed creatures, and deformed children. I can see our future life what look like if the business continues to develop according to its maximum profit principle. Thus, I agree with the video shows that some multination corporation are harmful to worker’s right with using cheap labor, child labor, and providing awful working condition in developing countries. Some corporation uses cheap labor in developing countries to manufacture their products, which is unfair for employees. The wages and benefits they received are unequal to the unit of sale price and volume of production. Morn gives some facts as follows: In 2000, the piece rate plus benefits...

...ORBH 250 Spring 2015 Prof. Learning Plan Part II ! As for the future three years before I enter labor force (since I plan to go to graduate school), the biggest thing I want to work on is to find what I really want to do in the future as my career. I am currently a sophomore majoring in Accounting and to be honest, I am not pretty sure about what I want to do for living As long as I am considering right now, there are three possibilities for me as for my career—work in an investment bank as an analyst, work as an author in china. As for being a author, the very first reason is that I love to express my opinions through languages. Indeed I started thinking about being an author when I was in my first year of undergraduate. I was mostly motivated by the book, The Seventh Day, written by Chinese famous journalist Hua Yu. In that book, He expresses his opinions about political, social and economical events though relating fictions life after the death of the main charter. Therefore, I was motivated by his several sentences, hoping to become an author so as to perform my own values in Chinese writing filed. The major difficulty so far that get in the way for me to be a an author here is still the language barrier. The reason is that I did not get the formal training for this. For now, I accept American education, and totally stop accepting any Chinese stuff. In addition, I spend lots of time working on do my Finance and Accounting class, so I don’t have more time to consider...
