Speech How many of you do like not eating your vegetables? Brusslesprouts, cauliflower, or eggplants are not that delicious, right? But what about a vegetable that tastes like a rich and creamy piece of heaven? Think of heaven like clouds, but now imagine that these clouds are soft poufs of chocolate, luscious, irresistible, and mouth-watering, dark chocolate fudge. Now what if I told you that this heaven you’re dreaming of is a vegetable. So chocolate is a vegetable? Yes, because chocolate is derived from cocoa beans. So chocolate is healthy? Depending. Chocolate that has been massively processed, roasted, toasted, microwaved and combined with obtrusive ingredients is not healthy. On the other hand, raw chocolate, chocolate in its most natural state is healthy. Raw chocolate has many healthy nutritional benefits as well as many healthy mental and emotional benefits in its more pure form. Today, I’m going to explain to you those benefits to inform you of all the hidden qualities most do not know of about chocolate. Most people think chocolate is an unhealthy treat due to massive processing and fats; however, cocoa is actually considered a ‘superfood’, meaning it is rich in nutrients and may even reduce the risk of certain cancers. Despite the common misconceptions of chocolate being unhealthy and the ‘diet devil’, the cocoa beans are actually loaded with antioxidants and minerals to help ward off degenerative diseases and maintain a healthy body. Our body is constantly under attack by free radicals, which damage our cells thus leading to diseases. Thankfully, we can take antioxidants, which act like a force field to protect against diseases. According to cocoa-chocolate.com, Cornell University food scientists say cocoa has nearly twice the antioxidants of red wine and up to three times those found in green tea. Farmers generally use machetes or large knives attached to poles to slice down the ripe pods, taking care not to hurt nearby buds. The pods are split open by hand. The beans are scooped out and the outer shell is discarded. If you tasted a bean at this point you would notice a sweet, lemony flavor from the pulp. The actual bean would be bitter and hard to eat.
