...The Japanese manga and anime inspired the creation of the work. A group of young, parentless angels who have no wings struggle to live during a war. Logos, the eldest guardian, gets confronted by his secret lover, Exstasis, who knows where the angels’ wings lie. Exstasis delivers supremacy with a horrid personal cost (Smith). Mr. Whitacre created music with “whooshing synthesizers and thumping techno beats, accented by two taiko drummers and rich melancholy contributions from a splendid cellist, Fang Fang Xu.” The solos, sung by bright men and women, and ensembles gave out the idea of a piece created by a younger Andrew Lloyd Webber (Smith). The cast of this musical has performed this many times giving Paradise Lost: Shadows and Wings the title of Winner of the ASCAP Harold Arlen award (“Eric Whitacre (b1970) on Hyperion Records”). The musical presented the audience with a group of angels who has not found their wings, but Exstasis, the leader’s, Logos’, secret lover, knows where the angels’ wings lie. A war comes between the group of angels and the deceiving character, Extasis. To better illustrate the war and scenes in the musical, the music created had fast beats and bright solos and ensembles to illustrate a piece that a younger Andrew Lloyd Webber would have created. Without Eric Whitacre’s style, his projects, such as the Virtual Choir and Paradise Lost: Shadows and Wings, would not have seen...

...Proposal for an Integrated Conflict Management System MBA 561: Conflict Management Jones International University September 2012 In Mark 10: 9 (King James Bible Version), Jesus tells us “What therefore God hath joined together, let no man put asunder”. Clearly, the Son of God and beloved Savior informs his chosen believers that God, the Almighty Father, operates through solidity. It is therefore a concern of Gods as to why his house, the church, has become a home divided and confrontational. The writer of this paper intends to explore all possible explanations for such chaos, while offering strategic and accurate concepts for resolution. Proposal for an Integrated Conflict Management System Many names can be used to describe a church; the official house of God, the sanctuary, the place of peace, and my personal favorite, “The spiritual grocery store for the souls needs.” On surface, one would assume that such a place would the grounds for constant peace and unity amongst its administrative staff as well as its members. Oddly enough, despite the communicated perfection of God himself, the church too suffers from many areas of conflict based on the imperfections of those who are involved. With the help of Herman Blanding, head pastor for the Faith with Works ministry, my goal is to passionately explore and accurately assess conflict management within the church, and present the absolute best conclusions to help bring the church to its desired state of unity, obedience...

...A brief resource appraisal of the Thee Choirs Winery. The ways in which the systems of production can be made more sustainable from an environmental point of view. Introduction Three Choirs is one of the largest and the best established of England’s vineyards and is a major Gloucestershire tourist’s destination. (Williamson, 2008) Three Choirs cultivates a vide range of typically English grape varieties and in addition Pinot Noir. The company was established in 1973 with only a half an acre of vines, “simply as an experiment”,- Martin Fowke comments. This has expanded dramatically over the years. And now 30.3 ha of vines are being cultivated, all on the same single estate home vineyard. Tree Choirs also established cooperation by offering contract wine making for around 30 to 30 other small growers, both local and further afield. The Three Choirs single-estate is planted on well-drained sandstone soils, most of which enjoys a southerly aspect. The meso-climate of the vineyard is significant in both its warmth and low rainfall. As a result the approach is very much one of sustainable viticulture, however there is a range of techniques and opportunities that might help to make the winery even more sustainable. These tools will be presented in three parts (Vineyard, Winery and Infrastructure, which includes shop, hotel, restaurant) and discussed below, as well as the key points of the sustainability concept. “Sustainability is a...

...21st Century Reflection Paper Team Work, Collaboration, and Conflict Resolution My experiences working with teams have varied. I have worked on group projects for school, and with teams at different jobs. While I was working on a school PowerPoint group project presentation, team work was important. Our group met to discuss what information we would need on the presentation. Next we choose who could do best on what part. When I was younger I worked as a manager at a fast food restaurant. When preparing fast food, team work and great communication were a must. Without effective team work it’s easy to fall behind. All persons on the shift had a job to do, be it cashier, cook, or filler bagger. These jobs working together insured a productive day. My experiences working with teams have been positive because I was able to learn from them. I learned how to talk to people with respect. On my present job I am a car sales consultant. In the auto sales business you have sales consultants, sales managers, and credit/finance specialist. There is also advertising to bring in customers. We all work as a team to move from one step to the next. The customer comes in looks around with a sales consultant. Once the customer picks out a car the sales consultant or sales manger completes the initial paper work. The finance specialist reviews how the car will be purchase and what type of credit or finance may be needed. Teams are...

...England’s royal households. In the early centuries, a group of selected chaplains had always formed a part of the royal household. However, these chaplains generally served as advisers and their roles were primarily political than musical. Nevertheless, these priests also assisted at the ceremonial occasions by some three or four clerici who possessed good singing voices and were drafted into the chapel for such occasions. As time went on, the occasional recruitment of these musical clerics ceased to satisfy the needs of the sovereign and a more permanent, concrete set of musical retainers were selected; a self-contained department of the household called the capella regis, which included chaplains, clerks and choristers. Beginning during the reigns of Edward I and Edward II (1272-1327), a specialized body of liturgical musicians called the “Chapel Royal” began to take shape. The Chapel Royal were a special group of musically inclined personnel maintained by sovereigns of England within the royal household, to perform divine service in the monarch’s presence. The Chapel Royal were in constant attendance to the sovereign and travelled with the royal household and discharged its duties in the chapel of whatever place the king then happened to reside. From these modest beginnings, the chapel eventually developed into one of the foremost secular liturgical choirs in Europe with kings maintaining 40-50 voices in the choir to project the king’s image and conspicuous display of...

...different cultural practices. The music of African Americans has transcended across different cultures. Gospel music is one of the sacred forms of music for African Americans. This is one of the hottest music genres currently out, and it is not only meant to relay a message to people but change their hearts in the process and help people endure positive out takes on life. Gospel music has a long rich tradition with great contributors such as Thomas Dorsey, Mahalia Jackson, Whitney Houston, and Kirk Franklin. Things such as gospel music workshops and conventions exist today to educate individuals on this peculiar style of music. Recently, I held a gospel music workshop and many things were involved in putting it together. The following paper will discuss my research on the evolution of gospel music and elaborate more on why I decided to do a gospel music workshop. African American gospel music has been implemented with secular and non-African American elements. This has caused many individuals to wonder “what is gospel music?” This musical phenomenon has moved beyond the walls of the “black church” and includes many aspects (Wise 1). Gospel music can be defined from a cultural, spiritual, or musical perspective. There are underlying theological and spiritual principles Gospel music was a sacred folk music that originated out of slave songs, field hollers, Baptist lining hymns, and Negro spirituals and standard Protest hymns and many composed songs. The Center for...

...National Honors Society has been important to me because it has caused me to seek out service opportunities that I would have not originally considered. I used to do service when it seemed convenient or did not require much work or attention. When I joined NHS, a whole world of service opportunities opened up to me. I was encouraged to seek out opportunities where I could help or lead other people. NHS has helped me meet people and has led me to activities I still do, whether they count for service hours or not. I have learned that service is rewarding. When I was in NHS at my previous school, we had different service requirements. One of the requirements was to serve with your church for a specific number of hours. I had not been very involved...

...Travelling Players in Hamlet: New Historicist Issues Travelling Players in Hamlet: New Historicist Issues In Hamlet, Shakespeare makes use of a play within a play, as the device through which Prince Hamlet hopes to prove King Claudius’s guilt in the murder of the old King Hamlet. This idea suggests itself to Hamlet in Act 2, Scene 2, when Rosencrantz tells him that a group of actors will soon be arriving at Elsinore, at which point their conversation digresses briefly to the circumstances surrounding these itinerant players. In the space of the next 45 lines, Shakespeare informs his audience of several important issues affecting the real actors of his time. This is of particular interest from the viewpoint of New Historicism, which treats literature as a part of history, and as an expression or representation of forces on history (Holman and Harmon, 318). New Historicism emerged as a theoretical movement in the late 1970s and early 1980s with one of the earliest proponents being Louis A. Montrose. In his essay “Professing the Renaissance: The Poetics and Politics of Culture,” Montrose says that the focus of New Historicism “…has been upon a refiguring of the socio-cultural field within which canonical Renaissance literary and dramatic works were originally produced; upon resituating them not only in relationship to other genres and modes of discourse but also in relationship to contemporaneous social institutions and non-discursive practices”...

...from high school, some are still college students that would keep following the path they started years ago in high school when they were playing on a concert band, orchestra or marching band, singing on a choir and become great and successful musicians if at least they had a teacher who could inspire them, someone who could guide them to find the freedom of expressing themselves and play music the way they feel and see it. As a future teacher, I am already concern on how and what I will give my student as tools. So, it is my responsibility to start thinking and planning of a good strategy first to get my students’ attention, motivate them and show them good ways to develop their music skills according to their inspiration. In life, there are different types of people when it comes to desire and what they want to do. Some people just try and if anything works, they just let go. Some people in the other hand, push really far until they can satisfy their desires. This is what we often call Persistence. From my experience on the music field, persistence is what brings me at this level because I didn’t have the chance to experience any music at all in elementary, middle or high school. It was always a dream for me to play an instrument, to be part of an orchestra, to sing in a choir or to share an environment with people who like music just like I do and advocate for it. What can I say? I didn’t choose to be like that nor can’t I change my past. But from...

One of the things that I am proud of is when I did the annual lemonade stand day. I was interviewed about the entrepreneurial lessons learned that I had learned from doing lemonade stands, and that interview was put in the paper. Also, in Carmel Dad’s Club Basketball I...
