Choosing a Car Choosing a car to buy is one of many important choices in life. Most people are very picky when it comes to choosing a car. The three important factors when buying a car are the price, appearance, and the name brand. When buying a car, the price of the vehicle is important. If the customer is a wealthy individual, they would purchase a new car. When buying a new car the buyer is able to test drive the vehicle, and if the car and price meets their demand they are ready to buy the vehicle. If a customer is looking for a cheap car, they would purchase the vehicle from a used car lot or a car auction. At a used car lot you are able to test drive the vehicle and see how the brakes and other features work. In contrast, at a car auction the consumer is only allowed to see what the car looks like and listen to how the engine sounds on each vehicle that is being auctioned. Then, when they find the one that will best meet their demands, they will place a bid. Looks mean everything when it comes to choosing a car. When buying a car most people choose their car based on what color it is and the appearance of the car itself. Before picking a color for their vehicle, the customer looks the appearance of the car such as size of the vehicle and the interior of the vehicle. If the customer wants a large vehicle where they can haul heavy objects such as a trailer, they would purchase a heavy duty truck such as a Ford F150. If they are looking for a family vehicle they would purchase a mini-van. Or if they just need a vehicle that can take them anywhere they want to go they would just buy a car. As for the interior of the vehicle the customer must decide whether they want leather or non-leather seats. It all depends on their comfortability, when it’s hot outside the leather seats tend to feel very warm when you first sit on them. Once they are settled with the appearance they will decide what color vehicle they want. When deciding on the color of the vehicle the customer chooses the best color of the name brand of the vehicle that is available. There are many different name brands of vehicles such as Ford, Chevrolet, Hyundai, and Kia. The only difference is some are domestic and some are import. The domestic vehicles are made in America, while the import vehicles are made in a foreign country such as Germany. Most domestic vehicles such as Ford are cheaper to maintain since the vehicle was made with parts that were generated in America. In contrast, Import vehicles such as the Volkswagen Jetta that has different type of lug nuts that you would not find on a domestic vehicle. In conclusion, choosing a car depends on the person who is deciding to buy the car. If the person is a wealthy individual, they will most likely purchase a new vehicle. If they are middle or low class, they will purchase a used vehicle.

Airplanes vs. Cars - Compare/Contrast Idea

...There are multiple ways to get from one place to another – walking, bicycling, cars, subways, trains, boats and airplanes. The majority of people today use cars and airplanes when traveling long distances. However, choosing which mode of transport is best for a traveler generally relies on a few factors – price, comfort, safety, time and potential delays. So, what is the best way to travel long distances? Price is a key component in deciding how to make it from one place to another, because traveling any distance these days comes at some sort of cost. At one time, the car was the least expensive way to travel, because most people owned or had access to a car and gas prices were relatively affordable. However, even though newer cars are getting better gas mileage as technology progresses, the lack of continuity in gas pricing nationwide makes it nearly impossible to accurately gauge how much gas would cost. Additionally, it is regularly suggested that a car have a full maintenance check before long distance travel. At the very least cars should have their fluid levels, brakes, and tires inspected and replaced, if needed. Some travelers do not want the extra “wear and tear” on their personal vehicles, electing to rent a car instead, but the traveler now pays for the use of the vehicle, taxes, miscellaneous fees, overpriced insurance and the same price for gas they would have to pay for while using their own vehicle. Traveling by airplane seems far less complicated now, right? When...

Bicycling: Impact on the Environment and Humans

...transportation. In order to avoid this problem riding vehicles that do not produce any CO2 emissions like bicycling would benefit the globe as a whole. Bicycling could reduce harm to the environment and improve individual’s quality of life. Choosing transportation like bicycling can reduce the harm that it brings to the environment. One benefit of bicycling is the reduction of CO2 emission, which causes global warming. Transportation with a lot of carbon release causes the air quality to go bad. This causes climate changes around the world for example it warms the atmosphere causing the ice to melt in the artic, which then effects the animals that live in that environment. Another benefit is it enables more energy to be conserved. Choosing transportation with less pollution such as a bicycle can reduce the manufacturing of vehicles that cause more pollution like a car; this reduces so much energy such as electricity that is being used by the factories to manufacture these products. Also it saves materials like the metals and plastics that are used for production of vehicles which later avoids the process of recycling. Final benefit to the environment due to transportation is the reduction of noise. Because of noise created by aviation, cars, and ships, many animals are extinct. Avoiding noise could save many creatures on earth. The reduction in noise levels will eliminate walls from being built to separate the houses from the high ways. Reduction in global...

A Life Lesson Learned

...my buddy’s birthday tonight. As I was getting ready to go out after work I started making the plan to pick up our friend Pete. For some reason choosing to take out my 98 Camaro Z28 instead of my more conservative Jetta seemed like a good idea. Why did I choose the Camaro? Why that was a bad idea? These are the questions I should have asked myself. It was a short ride to Pete’s place. When I arrived there I hung out a bit, “pre-gaming” with Pete and heading out to the party. Mistake one choosing to take a race car to a party that I planned on drinking at with a passenger and not having a plan if I couldn’t drive home. Our good friend Eric was having a Luau at his girlfriend’s house for his 23rd birthday party. A lot of our mutual friends from school and work were all there. At the party they had live music on a make shift stage which I thought was pretty cool. There were many festivities to partake in including an open bar and playing a few drinking games. After a few hours the party was winding down so it was time to leave. Pete and I decided to invite a few people back to my place and make a grand exit. This was mistake two leaving a party without realizing that I probably should not be driving so soon and not being aware of my surroundings. As we left the party my buddy Pete looks over and says to me, “let’s see what this car can do.” I won’t go into detail to much about my Camaro, so as to get off track. I will say though, I didn’t need to invest a whole lot of money...

Suvs the Good, Bad, Ugly

...utility vehicle (SUV). The two articles in question are "Would You Buy a Car That Looked Like This?" by Andrew Simms (541-544) and "Why Consumers Have Been Choosing SUVs" by John Merline (545-548). A popular trend in society today is an increasing demand for SUV's by consumers, and there are two sides to every issue. Some groups, represented by Andrew Simms, complain that SUVs have a negative impact on society, conversely John Merline is a advocate of the SUVs. Anti-SUV groups complain that SUVs have a negative impact on the rest of society because they are hazardous to smaller vehicles on the roadways. They claim that when SUVs are in accidents with smaller vehicles, the passengers in the cars are more prone to injury, while a SUV protects its own occupants. Some of the anti-SUV groups are proposing to lower the bumpers on SUVs. The bumper of each car would meet, and this change would be safer for the occupants in small cars if they were in an accident together. Anti-SUV groups have evidence that SUV's have a higher risk of rollover than cars. The Pro-SUV groups want a minimum weight limit on smaller cars, by doing so this would increase passenger safety. Pro-SUV groups claim the small incidence of SUVs that rollover is because specific models have a narrow wheel base design. Anti-SUV groups are complaining that SUVs are having a negative impact on the rest of society by consuming more fuel than cars. The United States is dependent on foreign countries to supply some of...

Gasoline Vehicles vs Hybrids

...vehicles are still more convenient to repair, hybrid vehicles are becoming just as reliable. Hybrid vehicles are still more expensive to purchase but the long term investment will pay for itself. Both gas and electrical powered vehicles have benefits and troubles. The choice comes down to personal preference. Gasoline-Powered Vehicles The history of the automobile dates back to the 15th century when Leonardo Da Vinci was creating designs and models for transport vehicles. In 1885-1886, an inventor named Karl Friedrich Benz a German engineer who invented the first automobile (car) called (DRP 37435), this vehicle came with petroleum driven and internal combustion engine. The engine of that automobile was water-cooled and had electric ignition. The DRP 37435 was powered by an internal combustion engine; three wheeled four cycle, engine and chassis from a single unit. However, a mass production of cars was produced in 1908 by a man named Henry Ford. The first make model was called- the Ford Model T after 19 years of production; Henry built more than...
