Lastly, magical realism/magical feminism also penetrates literature and allows the female characters to utilize storytelling and writing in order to maintain magic away from the reality. Magical realism is deemed as a genre of literature and art, so the forms of writing, storytelling, oral traditions, and art enrich its significance and meaning. The customariness of these forms was adapted and became part of the reality, which allowed magical realism to grow and spread. The readers start to see how literature becomes a fundamental aspect when the political wars start to emerge as the story progresses further. The female characters, specifically Alba, eventually get to witness and endure the pain that the brutal reality produces. While magical realism is comprised of both magic and historical critiques, Allende utilizes that notion with a twist to make the historical events/figures dictate magic but also conceals the surviving magic in the last significant female character, Alba. …show more content…
During Alba’s arrest, she narrates, “I tried to record the small events of the women’s section of the jail: that they had arrested the President’s sister… and I had sat with a child in each arm and told them magic stories from the enchanted trunks of my Great-Uncle Marcos…” (Allende 427).
