...The Climb I have this fear. It causes my legs to shake. I break out in a cold sweat. My heart starts beating a thousand miles an hour, and louder than a snare drum. I imagine my own funeral, then shrink back at the implications of where my thoughts are taking me. My stomach feels tight. My palms are clammy. I am terrified of heights. Of course, it’s not really a fear of being in a high place. Rather, it is the view of a long way to fall, of rocks far below me and no firm wall between me and the edge. Despite my fear, two months ago I somehow found myself climbing to a high place, while quaking inside and out. The ninth and tenth grade class had come along on a week long trip to Washington D.C. A place filled with so much history and culture. Our first stop on the trip was Gettysburg Pennsylvania. We were on the site looking at the battlefield where thousands of soldiers died in the most deadly battle of the Civil War. It was a chilling experience, standing in the place where so many deaths occured. We took the van around the battlefield, stopping every once in awhile, getting out, and checking out some of the main attractions of the battlefield. After eating our sack lunches within sight and sound of the spring, many of us wanted to make the climb up to a view tower that showed almost the entire battlefield from one spot. We knew others had done so on the previous trips, we had heard the stories. The first group said that it was the most amazing part of the Gettysburg...

...role in the incident. This conceptual analysis suggests that cognitive biases, team beliefs about interpersonal risk taking, and system complexity interacted to create a fatal disaster. Incredible achievement and great tragedy unfolded on the treacherous slopes of Everest on May 10, 1996. TVventy-three people reached the summit along the South Col route in Nepal on that day, including Rob Hall and Scott Fischer, two of the world's most skilled and experienced high-altitude climbers. Unfortunately, Hall, Fischer, and three members of their expeditions died as a storm enveloped the mountain during their descent. Others barely escaped with their lives after many hours wandering in the dark while braving subzero temperatures. Hall, the leader of the Adventure Consultants expedition, had established an impressive track record of Everest ascents, guiding thirty-nine climbers to the summit over the previous six years. Fischer, the leader of the Mountain Madness team, also had an impressive reputation as a high-altitude climber, though he had only reached the Everest summit once. Each expedition included the team I am grateful to David Ager, Ralph Biggadike. Max Bazerman, Amy Edmondson, Khushwant...

...Almost all average kids could tell you that they have a place they simply enjoyed visiting; a place that they felt a part of because they experienced one of many memories in that place. I for one also had one of these spots that I could call my own, and even today I can remember why that spot was so significant to me. When I was much younger, I knew exactly where I wanted to go every weekend. Just behind my old neighborhood is a small forested area that is not too dense nor did it have many tall trees; but, it did have just enough trees to create the location of our hangout. The smell of the trees there prevailed around the entire neighborhood; it was in fact a very refreshing and enjoyable scent. Also, the birds and the squirrels could always been seen all over the forest happily taking care of their own business. I always felt that the forest was the best place to enjoy the outdoors because of how natural the surroundings were, and because of how peaceful it always seemed to be. One day, a couple of my closest friends and I decided that we would set up a place to hang out in the forest, where nobody else could enter unless they knew the way there; and obviously, the magic password. We began to create this hangout by first setting up our so called ‘traps’ for outside invaders, followed by a resting area within our hangout. While we were making this idea become reality I felt that this idea would be great because not only would I be able to enjoy relaxing in the forest, but...

...When you think about it, there isn’t a day that goes by without being tempted. Temptation comes along our paths every day in our lives. Whether it is from the foods we eat, the people we talk to, or the choices we make, knowing that sometimes they aren’t right. This is why the rapper Logic decided to inspire, or rather uplift, any of his audience going through some adversities or rough patches in life, in his song “Never Been”. Throughout his song, he uses countless examples of how he overcame adversities of his own and is reassuring that immoral temptation is challenging but he believes that we can all overcome it. Logic opens this song with the lyrics, “I’ve been workin’ like I’ve never been, I struggle everyday but I just can’t let the devil in”. Logic is saying how he recognizes how difficult it is to refrain from temptation and how he learned from every situation he has been in. We not only deal with our personal demons, but we also come in contact with outside demons such as the environment that we are put in and by some people perceiving to be the devil to destroy us. In these lyrics right here, Logic is saying we struggle everyday but we can’t let anything or anyone distract us from what we want. These demons, whether internal or external, try to corrupt us but he wants us to know that we are not alone. Immediately after these lyrics, Logic raps “And if I knew back then what I know right now, what I know right now, I’d be better than I’ve ever been, better than I’ve...

...long underwear and other layers of clothing. We touched our outfit off with a bit of camouflage, and a some face paint to boot. We are standing at the base of our destination. The smells of this natural beauty have us entranced the moment we climb out of the man-made beast. We both take a deep breath and sigh, the air filling our lungs with a godly vitality. You lookat me and smile as though you are five years old again and just received you first Christmas present. Your white teeth and eyes are the only way to pick your outline out of the surrounding darkness. The camouflage is working, and we are becoming parts of nature. Now, its outline just visible against the stars of the night, we see the mountain. Turning to face the foreboding darkness and sounds of the night, we gather our courage and silently plunge into the underbrush. The wet leaves make no sound under our work boot clad feet, and the branches we brush against bend to our will. As our eyes become accustomed to the darkness we use our penlights sparingly. You jump as a bat glides silently through the darkness in front of us, you breath coming out in a gasp. The hoot of an owl breaks the silence, and we look up to experience its silken take off from a high above branch. We continue on, still not making a sound. Somehow we find a way to avoid every creaking and cracking branch on the ground and left on the trees. We pass numerous...

Part 3: How would Plato explain the concept of a cat using Forms?
Plato would surely begin, especially with a younger mind foreign to his philosophies, by explaining the concept of a Form. He would take a nearby object, say a stone in the street, and hold it to the child. I imagine the Dialogue would proceed as follows.

You’ve been nudged, cajoled, wheedled and implored. You’ve been feted and fawned over and called sweetie pie. Yes, you have. The part about everyone gathering to celebrate a single person and every other person smiling wherever you go is all of course meant as an exaggeration to emphasis his point and using this ludicrous way of mocking the audience to overstress his focal point of the quote. The quote is supposed to be understood as a mocking of the way young people get pampered...
