...Child Development Observation Ashlene Pillay 3212715 Athabasca University PSYC 228 Introduction to Human Development March 8, 2016 Introduction Naturalistic observation is a “measurement strategy that involves directly watching and coding behaviors.” (26) Naturalistic study is a general research strategy used by developmental scientists, “typically during childhood but also with impaired adults.”(27) Naturalistic studies are conducted in order to watch the behaviors of people, as they exist their natural environment, with no attempts at intervention from the investigator. There are no attempts of intervention so that the situation is not manipulated or controlled by the investigator, and so the situation is not initiated or created by the investigator. Naturalistic observations are useful as they allow the observation of behavior exactly as it occurs in the real world. Naturalistic studies are also useful as they can help to establish the external validity of the research findings. If behavior is seen to be present in real life, it’s easier to say that the results from the study extend to the general population and that the conclusions drawn from the sampling of behavior also describe people outside of the sample. It can also be useful for researchers to study situations and variables that cannot be manipulated in a lab due to ethical concerns. For example, while it would be unethical to study the effects of a school shooting by actually causing the event to occur...

...the sidelines at games, most cheerleading squads participate in heated competitions to show their athleticism. Although it is not officially defined as a sport by the NCAA, it obviously should be for many different reasons. Dictionary.com defines a sport as "an athletic activity that requires physical prowess or skill and often a competitive nature. Cheerleading is defined as” the action and skill of a cheerleader.” So what is a cheerleader? A cheerleader is’ a person who leads spectators in traditional or formal cheering at a pep rally and athletic events. Cheerleading definitely fulfills this criteria maybe even better than other activities commonly called sports. I interviewed a young lady named Schae who used to cheer for Kenmore High School. She is now a senior and attends a different school. When she cheered for Kenmore she thought that the team was a wonderful team and cheerleading was something that she always looked forward too. . She loves...

...time in the world, going through September 11 2001 and holding it all together and bringing not just a city but actually the whole United States of American back from an attack on America. In this paper I will try and point out some things that stand out about Mr. Giuliani leadership skill and compare them to the “Primal Leadership” written by Daniel Goleman, Richard Boyatzis, and Annie McKee, and also comparing them to “The Steward Leader” by R. Scott Rodin. You’re setting there finishing up your morning meeting like you do every day of the week, everything going as normal, when you are told that a plane just hit the “World Trade Center”! What would be the first thing come to your mind would be “Oh No” or maybe “What do we do now”! No, He takes the situation head on and starts preparing for it from the get go. How many of us could say that about our outlook, when something bad happens to us, most of us would get out of shape and start trying to figure out why it happen, or might even run from it. Leadership is the name of the game you have to be prepared for anything that come at you or as the old saying goes “be prepared for anything because you never know what come behind the next door” during times like this you need to surround yourself with trust worthy people that you can bounce ideas off of and get straight answer and that’s what he did, and some of them had family and friends in the building, but they were focused on the task at hand. Improve your vertical jump While flying in a plane is nice and all, it’s a bit expensive and way too temporary. Sprouting feathers and wings ain’t gonna happen! So, unless you’ve got money to burn or you really believe in evolution, you’re stuck with improving your vertical jump. A strong vertical jump is at the core of some of the most beautiful and graceful movements known to man – Kobe Bryant dunking on the fast break, Michelle Kwan hitting a triple axle, and Barishnikov seemingly floating in air during the ballet. But don’t get me wrong, the vertical jump is also a measure of pure raw power that is used...

...into a server where hundreds or thousands of other people are logged in at the same time. Sometimes people work together and sometimes they work against each other, but it’s always a social environment. MMOs have moved gaming from a pastime to a lifestyle. Many players dedicate their lives and all of their spare time to playing. Unfortunately there have been many negative repercussions because of how much time people dedicate to these games. There’s a history of problems commonly associated with other addictions, from families falling apart all the way to the deaths of players of MMOs. There is a real concern of how playing MMOs can impact people’s lives. To understand this problem, you have to look at what allures gamers to this style of video game. Many people look for ways to escape the monotony of their day to day lives, whether it’s losing oneself in a book, getting lost in the drama of a hit television show or logging into their favorite online game. MMOs are based on the entire premise of reinventing yourself as someone or something completely different than what you are in real life. The player becomes something...

...Horizontal Analysis Results Competition Bikes, Inc. has seen a rather large decrease in net sales from the current period (years 7 and 8) versus the period before (years 6 and 7). The decrease is attributable to the current economic situation. The company expects unit sales to increase over the next three years but to still stay below the high unit sales figure of the 4,000 units sold in 2007. While sales have decreased, the cost of goods sold as a percentage to net sales has remained a constant 73%. This show raw material prices and labor have remained fairly constant. Advertising has been cut 16.3% from the two periods as a result of lower sales. Marketing budgets are usually the first expense to be cut in a downturn market, but are not necessarily the most prudent as companies must still fight hard for the available sales which are present. For general and admin expenses, Competition Bikes has stayed relatively flat to expenses from the previous period to current. Utilities are up 11.1%, probably due to higher energy costs. One area that bears investigation is the line “other general and admin expenses” which is up $12,000 or 7.6% over the period while sales have fallen 15%. The most troubling line is “operating income” which has fallen 69.1% while sales has fallen only the 15%. The fact of fixed overhead, salaries, and utilities, which are paid out whether any sales are brought in, are draining company cash much more than sales percentage decline. It also...

...Wiki Loves Monuments: Photograph a monument, help Wikipedia and win! Production theory From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation, search Production theory is the study of production, or the economic process of converting inputs into outputs. Production uses resources to create a good or service that is suitable for use, gift-giving in a gift economy, or exchange in a market economy. This can include manufacturing, storing, shipping, and packaging. Some economists define production broadly as all economic activity other than consumption. They see every commercial activity other than the final purchase as some form of production. Production is a process, and as such it occurs through time and space. Because it is a flow concept, production is measured as a “rate of output per period of time”. There are three aspects to production processes: 1. the quantity of the good or service produced, 2. the form of the good or service created, 3. The temporal and spatial distribution of the good or service produced. A production process can be defined as any activity that increases the similarity between the pattern of demand for goods and services, and the quantity, form, shape, size, length and distribution of these goods and services available to the market place. ...capital was raised by selling company stock. This capital was used for the initial cost of the launch. Unlike later in the simulation, budget decisions in the first quarter were much easier to manage because costs were fixed, and the revenue guaranteed. Just over half million dollars was spent to open the first office and complete research and development. I determined the direction of NeoTech would be to focus on producing a high end computer as its marquee product and a mid-range/office computer as a secondary focus. Quarter 2 marked the first quarter where a product was produced, salesmen hired, and product sold. The most difficult decision in this quarter was finding the proper equilibrium between projecting sales of a new and unknown commodity, choosing the right amount of sales people and their compensation, and determining a competitive yet profitable price. Summarizing the decisions made in quarter 2, a total of 9 salesmen were hired at 55k annual salary. It was estimated that each salesman would sell at minimum 100 computers. The high end computer, “Engineo” was priced at $3799.00 with a $300 rebate. The “Neoffice” was priced at $2,000.00 with a $100 rebate. The cost per unit of the engine and Neoffice were $2,146 and $1,794 respectively. Based on the cost per unit and the predicted sales per salesman, NeoTech directed the production of 600 Engineo computers and 300 Neoffice. Analyzing the second quarter, the pro forma net cash flow would only be $28,120....

...is a source of financial services for entrepreneurs and small businesses lacking access to banking and related services. The two main mechanisms for the delivery of financial services to such clients are: (1) relationship-based banking for individual entrepreneurs and small businesses; and (2) group-based models, where several entrepreneurs come together to apply for loans and other services as a group. In some regions, for example Southern Africa , microfinance is used to describe the supply of financial services to low-income employees, which is closer to the retail finance model prevalent in mainstream banking. Community-based savings bank in Cambodia. There are a rich variety of financial institutions which serve micro-entrepreneurs and small businesses. For some, microfinance is a movement whose object is "a world in which as many poor and near-poor households as possible have permanent access to an appropriate range of high quality financial services, including not just credit but also savings, insurance, and fund transfers."[1] Many of those who promote microfinance generally believe that such access will help poor people out of poverty, including participants in the Microcredit Summit Campaign. For others, microfinance is a way to promote economic development, employment and growth through the support of micro-entrepreneurs and small businesses. Microfinance is a broad category of services, which includes microcredit. Microcredit is provision of credit services to...

...The domestic dog (Canis lupus familiaris)[2][3] is a subspecies of the gray wolf (Canis lupus), a member of the Canidae family of the mammalian order Carnivora. The term "domestic dog" is generally used for both domesticated and feral varieties. The dog was the first domesticated animal[4] and has been the most widely kept working, hunting, and pet animal in human history. The word "dog" can also refer to the male of a canine species,[5] as opposed to the word "bitch" which refers to the female of the species. MtDNA evidence shows an evolutionary split between the modern dog's lineage and the modern wolf's lineage around 100,000 years ago but, as of 2013, the oldest fossil specimens genetically linked to the modern dog's lineage date to approximately 33,000–36,000 years ago.[4][6] Dogs' value to early human hunter-gatherers led to them quickly becoming ubiquitous across world cultures. Dogs perform many roles for people, such as hunting, herding, pulling loads, protection, assisting police and military, companionship, and, more recently, aiding handicapped individuals. This impact on human society has given them the nickname "man's best friend" in the Western world. In some cultures, however, dogs are also a source of meat.[7][8] In 2001, there were estimated to be 400 million dogs in the world.[9] Most breeds of dogs are at most a few hundred years old, having been artificially selected for particular morphologies and behaviors by people for specific functional roles. ...About the Author Back Ad Praise for Divergent Books By Veronica Roth Credits Copyright About the Publisher CHAPTER ONE THERE IS ONE mirror in my house. It is behind a sliding panel in the hallway upstairs. Our faction allows me to stand in front of it on the second day of every third month, the day my mother cuts my hair. I sit on the stool and my mother stands behind me with the scissors, trimming. The strands fall on the floor in a dull, blond ring. When she finishes, she pulls my hair away from my face and twists it into a knot. I note how calm she looks and how focused she is. She is well-practiced in the art of losing herself. I can’t say the same of myself. I sneak a look at my reflection when she isn’t paying attention—not for the sake of vanity, but out of curiosity. A lot can happen to a person’s appearance in three months. In my reflection, I see a narrow face, wide, round eyes, and a long, thin nose—I still look like a little girl, though...
