...Homie the Clown Review 3/21/15 “Homie the Clown” is the fifteenth episode of the sixth season of the extremely popular show “The Simpson’s.” It was written by Matt Groening, directed by David Silverman, and developed by James L. Brooks. The episode first aired in February 12, 1996 (Miller, n.d.). The episodes plot begins with one with one the show’s side characters, Krusty the Clown, who has gained a lot of fame or fortune through his profession. However, unfortunate events come down upon Krusty as his miss use of his money through unnecessary spending and bad gambling, he is now in danger of going bankrupt while owing a debt to the mob. In a desperate attempt to replenish his finances, he opens up a clown college in which he would personally teach students of his ways of comedy and entertainment. The show’s main character, Homer Simpson, spots a billboard for the college and becomes one of the first students to go there. In the process, Homer graduates and become the bona-fide “Krusty” of his hometown. Meanwhile, mob and its members have grown tired of wait for their debt to be repaid and decide to go hunt and kill Krusty. However, they spot Homer first and end up mistaking him for Krusty due to Homer now having Krusty likeness. At the mob’s hideout, the mob boss decides that he’ll spare Krusty’s life if he can perform one of his famous tricks, while still not knowing that the clown is actually Homer. ...To be honest, I had no idea how a play that was about “clowns” would go about and how it would capture my attention since I have a fear of clowns. However, the cast and crew played their parts brilliantly and had me laughing countless times while feeling a bit uncomfortable due to the oddness and suspense of the plotline. The cast was successful in causing the audience to feel a mixture of emotions while keeping them entertained and excited. Due to the set-up of the stage and outfits, the cast was able to capture the audience’s attention by articulating the different types of genres that the play consisted of. Many comical songs and parts were implemented in order to create a less serious and comical atmosphere. Throughout the play, different scenes occurred by setting up three different layouts and areas in order to show the separation of beliefs. The themes became more apparent due to the staging of the lighting focusing on only the characters during the first half of the play. The second half slowly lightened up the stage, showing that hope was coming for the son of the king in order to reclaim the throne. At the beginning and the end of the play, it was almost pitch black, with barely anything visible other than the cast of the characters circling around the centerpiece of the stage in order to inflict fear into the audience. He built this building to serve as a visual example for his prospective clients of Boca Raton. The function was used well; he had offices for the engineers, an apartment for himself, restaurants to eat in. He used the form of Spain as in El Greco’s house in Toledo Spain giving it the Mediterranean design which is very appealing to many, a different place to look at from other areas in Florida.
