It took me fifteen years to realize what an amazing inspiration my father has been on my life. He is the type of individual who has thoughtful dialogue about which artist he would most want to have his portrait painted by, the kind of leader in the community who sits on every board of every major project to that assists locally impoverished residents, and the kind of father who always found time to play and be with his children. My father’s enthusiasm for learning, sense of charity and strong leadership all have shaped who I have become as a positive citizen. I developed several of his passions by growing up with such a solid role model. I not only came to love the exhilaration of learning simply for the sake of knowing something novel, but I came to appreciate the idea of giving back to the community in exchange for the intangibles in life such as love and a sense of belonging.
My father's enthusiasm for learning is most noticeable in travel. My family visited Italy for the first time when I was ten years old. As a teenager, I often tagged along with my father to the local food bank and children’s community centre. For many summers I volunteered to work with local children by chasing children around the building and performing magic tricks.
