1. Point 1-- provide the first reason your thesis is true: As mentioned above Common Core is hindering the learning of students because it is conforming students to strict learning methods. Pentagon's New Map

...REQUIREMENT 1: Summary of Author’s Thesis and Main Arguments [20 points]. Your answer should be approximately one typed page. 1. Summarize the author’s thesis and main arguments in your own words. Do NOT just copy and paste from the article. I strongly believe that the author’s thesis is composed of two parts. First, the author divides the world in two distinct groups: the Functioning Core and the Non-Integrating Gap. The Functioning Core is composed of those nation-states that are connected through communication networks, agreements and associations, financial transactions, and security. He states that these nations are successful and stable because they are actively participating in an international environment with common rules and regulations that are convenient to the group and have common interests related to their economics and political goals The other point of view that the author describes is another group known as the Non-Integrating Gap (“Gap”) nations. The author finds that those nations that are not participating in globalization or participating in the international environment and are disconnected from the global community appeared to deal with oppressive political regimes, never-ending poverty and diseases, corruption, and are more susceptive to sponsor terrorism. Another point that the author discusses is the fact that the United States must address the security hazard and small conflicts of those “Gap” nations currently posse to our nation...

To Kill A Mocking Bird Observation

...Find Your Partner  Students are given vocabulary words to define weekly. And by the end of the week instead of taking a spelling/vocab quiz they’d play a game called “Find Your Partner.” One student would have the vocab word, while the other has the definition. Everyone in the class will have a card—half with the vocab card and the other half with the definition card. They are spread throughout the classroom and they have to find their matching partner, and if anyone gets an incorrect pairing they’re out of the game. They would keep going until everyone goes through the entire vocab list or if they’re down to only two students who would then receive a prize.  T-BEAR o T-Topic sentence or Thesis statement, B-Background information, E-Example or Evidence, A-Analysis, R- Restate the thesis using new words. The Pentagon’s New Map: It Explains Why We’re Going to War and Why We’ll Keep Going to War

...THESIS AND MAIN ARGUMENTS The reason Barnett supports going to war in Iraq is not simply that Saddam is a cutthroat Stalinist willing to kill anyone to stay in power, nor because that regime has clearly supported terrorist networks over the years.  The real reason he supports a war like this is that the resulting long-term military commitment will finally force America to deal with the entire Gap as a strategic environment. The primary division in the world today, he says, is between two sets countries that he calls the Core and the Gap. The Core consists of advanced countries that play by the rules and are committed to globalization (primarily Europe, North America, and Japan) plus countries that are committed to getting there (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and some others). This is a form of shrinking the gap aka promote globalization. The less connected to globalization, the greater the chance is for U.S. military response. However, the Middle East is ripe for change, a stronger “bully” could push it forward. Focusing America’s military might in the Gap will set the conditions for globalization of nations in the region. Our presence in Japan and Western Europe generated extremely successful Core states. The Gap is everyone else: a collection of disconnected, lawless, and dangerous countries such as Colombia, Pakistan, and North Korea, plus most of the Middle East and Africa. American military action since World War II has been confined almost exclusively...

Strategy in Oil and Gas

...Strategies for oil and gas companies There are a variety of challenges facing the energy industry, from decreased access to sovereign reserves, to declining fields, innovation challenges, increased regulation and new energy policies. These challenges pose a threat to the basic industry structure. Oil & gas companies espouse four common industry-wide strategies of Portfolio Management, Operational Efficiency, Financial Management and Sustainability-of which the first three are core operating strategies of oil & gas companies. The companies have derived their profitability, growth, and shareholder returns based on the superior execution of these strategies. Though talk about Sustainability is a business imperative, it is no longer a differentiating factor and is not integrated with the core strategies. The current challenges facing the energy industry, however, necessitate that the companies integrate sustainability, innovation and management of technology strategies with their core strategies of portfolio management, operational efficiency and financial management. In this thesis, we propose two distinct strategic options: Total Life Cycle Management and Management of Technology. Environmental management and organizational efficiency are an integral component of both the strategic options. Through Total Life Cycle Management, the companies address challenges of continued access to easier to develop and produce reserves and legacy fields, efficiencies, costs and hosts expectations...

Political Philosophy

...cultural and religious identities will be the primary source of conflict in the post-Cold War world. It was proposed by political scientist Samuel P. Huntington in a 1992 lecture at the American Enterprise Institute, which was then developed in a 1993 Foreign Affairs article titled "The Clash of Civilizations? in response to his former student Francis Fukuyama's 1992 book, The End of History and the Last Man. Huntington later expanded his thesis in a 1996 book. Huntington began his thinking by surveying the diverse theories about the nature of global politics in the post-Cold War period. Some theorists and writers argued that human rights, liberal democracy, and capitalist free market economy had become the only remaining ideological alternative for nations in the post-Cold War world. Specifically, Francis Fukuyama argued that the world had reached the 'end of history' in a Hegelian sense. Huntington believed that while the age of ideology had ended, the world had only reverted to a normal state of affairs characterized by cultural conflict. In his thesis, he argued that the primary axis of conflict in the future will be along cultural and religious lines. As an extension, he posits that the concept of different civilizations, as the highest rank of cultural identity, will become increasingly useful in analyzing the potential for conflict. In the 1993 Foreign Affairs article, Huntington writes: It is my hypothesis that the fundamental source of conflict in this new world will not...
