...Community Health Needs Assessment During the past year, a focused community health needs assessment was conducted by Trinity Community Hospital. The assessment targeted cancer, orthopedic, and cardiovascular services within the hospital’s primary service region. It utilized information from multiple sources, including epidemiological surveys, state healthcare facilities’ planning guidelines, interviews with physicians and other healthcare professionals, and community focus groups. Following are highlights of the assessment results. Oncology Services 1) Demand—an aging population will create a sharp increase in the demand for oncology services in the primary service area. 15% of the population will be over 65 within the next five years. 50% of men and 33% of women are expected to develop cancer during their lifetimes. New cancer cases are expected to grow from 3,200 this year to 4,282 in five years (+34%). 2) Existing Resources—facilities and resources to prevent, diagnose, and treat cancer are already stressed. Interviews with medical and radiation oncologists confirm that physician practices are at capacity and that recruitment of additional physicians is underway. State planning data confirms the need. Facilities and equipment to diagnose and treat cancer patients are not keeping pace with growth in patient volume. The community already needs additional linear accelerators, chemo units, operating suites, and advanced imaging equipment. Physicians, nurses, social workers...

According to Samuel (1990), the law entailed seventeen timetabled sets of new regulations that can be grouped into the following four categories: premarket approval; post-market surveillance; penalties; and miscellaneous. According to Merrill (1994, p. 47), the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) “agency was given power to prescribe good manufacturing practices (GMP) requirements for devices, to ban worthless or dangerous products administratively, and to require notification, replacement, and/or refund by makers of defective products.” According to Swayze & Rich (2012) “a medical device is, simply defined, any item used to diagnose, treat, or prevent disease, injury, or any other condition that is not a drug, biologic, or food” (para. 1). In any health organizational set up, creating patient safety requires that the organization establishes a safe health environment that eliminates/minimizes all unintentional injury to ensure patient wellbeing. ...Community Health Needs Assessment Trinity Community Hospital AMT Task 2 Community Health Needs Assessment Trinity Community Hospital conducted a community health needs assessment (CHNA) to identify the needs of the local population. The assessment focused on oncology, orthopedic, and cardiovascular services. The following report will analyze the community health needs assessment by identifying the major risk factors in the community, and discussing if the needs defined in the evaluation are being addressed. The report will also outline recommendations for any outstanding community needs. Major Risk Factors Oncology Services The community health needs assessment identified that new cancer cases are expected to increase by 34% due to the aging population that will be over 65 within the next five years and a rise in expectation of men and women developing cancer. The assessment also identified that the current services are already stressed.; physician practices are at capacity, facilities and equipment are not keeping pace with the patient volume, services are fragmented, and there is little emphasis on prevention education and control. Professional opportunities have been widely used as a basis for the development of learning needs assessment. This article reports on the development of a learning needs assessment questionnaire for Community Health Nurses (CHNs). Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses were conducted to examine the consistency of factors underpinning the Canadian Community Health Nursing (CCHN) Standards. Also, validity and reliability of the questionnaire were evaluated using appropriate techniques. This process resulted in a valid and reliable CHN learning needs assessment questionnaire to measure learning needs of large groups of practitioners, where other forms of measurement cannot be feasibly conducted. ...Community Health Needs Assessment On March 23, 2012 it became a requirement for all hospital organizations operating a state-licensed hospital facility to compete a community health needs assessment (CHNA) at least every three years. The report must include a description of the community the hospital serves, the process and methods used to complete the assessment, input from persons representing the interest of the community, a prioritized description of the community health needs and a description of the existing health care facilities and available resources in the community. The CHNA must be available to the public by being posted on the hospital or organizational website. Hospitals must develop a written plan addressing each need identified in the CHNA, as well as provide implementation strategies for meeting the community needs (Adams, 2011). In the given case study, Trinity Community Hospital has complete their CHNA by identifying the communities major risk factors, ill health causes and actions required to address these issues. Trinity Hospital’s CHNA targets cancer, orthopedics and cardiovascular services within the hospitals primary service region. To complete the assessment the hospital utilized information from epidemiology surveys, planning guidelines from state healthcare facilities, physician interviews, interviews with other healthcare professionals and community focus groups. ...Cultural Competency Assessment Cultural Competency Assessment Cultural competency is a combination of attitudes, behaviors, and policies that creates a system within an organization or among groups. It allows people to work together effectively in cross-cultural, diverse situations. Culture is the pattern of behaviors that includes a person’s actions, thoughts, communications, beliefs, values, language, and institutions of social, ethnic, racial, and religious groups. Competence determines whether a person can function effectively as an individual, group, or organization within the context of the cultural behaviors, beliefs, and needs of clients and the communities in which he or she resides (Sutton, 2000). America is considered the “the melting pot” because of the culturally diverse communities we live, work, and play in. Importance of Cultural Competence America is a combination of diverse race and cultures, such as White, Asian, Native American, African American, Hispanic, and many others. Although every culture has created a new way of life in the 21st Century, each group has preserved values and beliefs from his or her original culture. Human service professionals need to provide services with objective, nonjudgmental, knowledgeable, open-mindedness, and the williness to understand the needs of each client. For example, a human service professional not aware of the Native American Child Welfare Policies may remove a child from his or her tribal family, and place that...
