Community Profile Presentation ETH/316

Introduction Factors such as the physical environment, social communication, diversity, population, technology, social inequality, and social efforts are what ultimately lead to change within communities. They can determine how stable communities are, potential growth, and accomplishments that communities have succeeded in. Each community has its own profile, and within each community all people have social roles in which they play. Roles are significant components within a community, and they contribute to stability by enabling its members to interact and build relationships on different levels throughout the community. Diversity within population amongst a community is what also helps a community to thrive and surface new ideas, which is beneficial to a community. People in a community that bring about change can be a friend, employee, student, or anyone; there is no one specific person who can build a community by his/her self; it is community efforts. This presentation will discuss the profile of a place called Sims City, and all about this little city that makes it worth living in its community. This is a diverse community of different ethnicities with different religious beliefs. There are 144 members within this community who vary from public administrators to homemakers, and they all interact and socialize amongst various locations within the Sims City community. All of these members help this community to grow and accomplish any goals it may have to make Sims City a better place for the entire community.
The Type of Work the Residents Do The workers of our town are of a varied lot. There are the public servants who administer the work of the town. These positions include city council, the mayor, the zoning department, tax collector, library staff, water department and all of the support people that are responsible to keep these areas running smoothly. The private sector holds the majority of the jobs. The citizens of our town are involved in service industries like restaurant work, running the hotels, working the gas stations, and running the newspaper routes. The white collar sector runs the banks, manages the department stores, own the car dealerships and the TV and radio stations. There are the obligatory principals, teachers and teacher’s aides that educate the town’s children. There are also stay at home moms (and dads) who choose to do this and not pursue a job and then there are people who are either not gainfully employed or are under employed. And last, but not least, there are quite a few people who are attending institutes of higher education. All of the cogs in the employment sector need each other to successfully do their jobs and contribute to the community as a whole.
Where Members Interact Sims City has a number of places where the community interacts and even socializes. Below is a list of the various places where the Sims community interacts;
Sims Shop
Sims City has a variety of shops, and malls. To include the Simtheria, which is a huge outlet store located on the east side of town.
Sims Library
The libraries are conveniently located within the city’s various zones for the residents and school age individuals. Computers and free Wi-Fi are available to the public.
Sims Farmer Market
Sims City has a Farmers Market and that helps the community interact by assisting them in fostering our organically grown fruits and vegetables.
Sims City Park
Sims City Park is located just east of the Sims Historical Park, which presents a great milieu for family amusement. Picnic tables, park benches, BBQ grills and playground equipment are available. The park has two great courts for basketball and volleyball as well as a softball and soccer field. The park is open from 9am-9pm daily.
Sims Restaurant
Offers a variety of culinary tastes for the diverse community and is a great place to meet people. The restaurant offers a warm atmosphere of friendly staff and managers. The food is prepared from the fruits and vegetables provided from the farmers market.
Responsibilities
Everyone needs to work in order for the community to thrive and survive. This requires dedication from all individuals to support and encourage this forward motion in its youth. This is done by providing tutoring centers where individuals volunteer their time and resources. Local businesses use portions of their sales and so on to help finance scholarships and other education opportunities for the youth of the community.
Each individual is responsible for keeping their homes and land clean and well-kept and to pick up after themselves when out in public. The community is responsible for setting up ample recycling bins in all public places and encourage and educate the public regarding both recycling and composting to create a greener more sustainable community. This also includes the setting up and use of community gardens that are both open to the public and local businesses. If a person spends time tending the garden they are welcome to reap the rewards of their hard work.
The community is set up to provide healthcare and resources to help individuals obtain health care. There are also many community resources made available to those that have fallen on hard times such as job placement services and temporary financial help for those in emergent need.
In this community being socially responsible means that everyone does their part to thrive on their own and encourage the thriving of others. This also means that the community is set up in a way to encourage good practices by all individuals. This means that recycle bins are made readily available, green technology is used whenever it can be by all individuals and businesses. Most importantly it means that individuals in the community donate their time and resources, both financial and talents, to encourage the development of others and the success of the community.
