...In her paper, Sharon Vallor mentions that while new social media provides little avenue for direct shared activities, they do reflect friends’ will to connect with their friends. (Vallor, 2011) Vallor’s paper focuses mainly on how new social media can contribute towards friendship by means of shared virtues. She does this by exploring the ethical significance of new social media trends relating to friendship. (Vallor, 2011) For her argument, she states that this “will” can be indicative of and meets the aims of friendship with respect to Aristotle. Indeed, with the limitations that are brought about by the fast pace of life and its circumstances, the significance of the will behind people’s actions is heightened considerably. ...successful companies use social media? By Nora Ganim Barnes 8 Spring 2010 Tweeting and blogging to the top The Center for Marketing Research at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, under the direction of researchers Barnes and Mattson, recently conducted a new in-depth and statistically significant study on the usage of social media in fast-growing corporations. This new study revisits the Center’s study of Inc. 500 social media usage for the third consecutive year, making it a valuable and rare longitudinal study of corporate use of these new technologies. (For a complete list and executive summaries see www.umassd.edu/cmr.) The new study compares adoption of social media over the last three years (2007, 2008 and 2009) by the Inc. 500, a list of the fastestgrowing private U.S. companies compiled annually by Inc. magazine. The 2009 Inc. 500 list was released in the September issue of Inc. magazine. In this third iteration, 30 percent (148) of the Inc. 500 participated. The companies include five of the top 10, 12 of the top 25 and 38 of the top 100 companies from the Inc. 500 list. All interviews were conducted with the chief marketing officer or other marketing professional at each company. Questions probed respondents about their familiarity with six prominent social media tools (blogging, podcasting, online video, social networking, message boards and wikis). This included the popular micro blogging service Twitter and other popular social networking sites like...

...Online Business Expansion Plan for Clovis Transit A1. Online Business Viability Clovis Transit is a public transportation agency located in the San Joaquin Valley of Central California. Clovis Transit provides two types of transportation – fixed route and paratransit. The fixed route service is called Stageline and runs regular routes throughout the city of Clovis proper and into some portions of the neighboring town, Fresno. The paratransit service is called RoundUp and provides service to disabled residents of the city. Clovis Transit is considered a mid-sized transit agency and provides approximately 300,000 trips per year. The city brands itself in the western motif with the goal of maintaining a small-town feel and personality while still serving a population of just short of 100,000 citizens. Passengers who use Clovis Transit fall into three main categories: low income, student, and disabled riders. These riders are considered “transit dependent” which means they have no other choice for transportation beyond the bus and therefore marketing has remained a low priority. The City of Clovis maintains a website that provides access to all its departments including Transit. The Transit department’s website currently contains basic information about the services offered and various forms and documents that can be downloaded by the user. Because the department serves two distinct customer groups, regular fixed-route transit riders and disabled citizens, there is an opportunity...

Few of the most common social media platforms are differentiated into social networks (such as Facebook, LinkedIn, Google+, instant messaging), collaboration networks (examples: slideshare, Wikipedia, Prezi, Google docs, Zoho docs, survey monkey), image sharing (Instagram, Flickr, Pinterest and Picasa), blogging (Tumblr, Blogger and Word-press), micro-blogging (Twitter) and video-sharing platform (YouTube, Blip and Vimeo). Apple does not use Facebook or Twitter for social media marketing because it is a multinational corporation, but not every business is as large scale and successful as Apple. Social media now represents a new horizon of marketing opportunities to businesses. Marketing is a practice, which establishes what products or services the customers might be interested in. Social media supports the development of marketing of businesses, to have a different perception about the brand; this allows creative methods to implement basic marketing. Social media marketing provides the tools that the businesses needs to be able to observe discussions through the internet efficiently (Assaad and Gómez, 2011). ...Those who are citizens of the United States of America possess a vast amount of freedoms, in comparison to others around the globe. One right that citizens of the United States of America have is freedom of speech, which is our first amendment right. Free speech is not permitted in the Middle east and in some Western European countries, the consequence for this results in the death penalty, and jail time. Not only are individuals being incarcerated and sentenced to death for freely expressing their thoughts, but the government is “blocking or monitoring social media and cyber traffic (CQ Researcher, page 377).” Some may say that this is beneficial, while others like myself may disagree with the way the government handles individuals from freely expressing themselves....

...There has been a lot of word-of-mouth and mentions in social networking site about “It’s more FUN in the Philippines”, the new Slogan of the Department of Tourism (DOT) in 2012 which replaced the long-running slogan, “WOW Philippines”. Observers notes, however whether Filipinos, who posted their own efforts or ideas for the slogan in their Faceboook and twitter, communicated the right audience as the DOT attempted to make a viral people’s campaign that aimed to bring travellers from other countries to the Philippines. With market potential off 1 billion tourists spending US$1 trillion worldwide, a small increase in tourist numbers would greatly benefit the Philippines as it has not attracted as many foreign tourists, with market shares of less than half of the one percent. This is when even with the consideration of the many natural wonders that the Philippines has versus the manmade structures in the other countries. The additional source of revenues could complement other major sources of foreign receipts like exports with reported values of over US$51 billion and of OFW remittances nearly US$20 billion in 2010. The top ten tourism destinations of the world as of 2011 included two Asian countries: France, USA, China, Spain, Italy, UK, Turkey, Germany, Malaysia and Mexico. Some 204 million tourists visited the Asia-Pacific region in 2010, and the top ten places were: China (56 million) , Malaysia(25 million), Hongkong (20 million), Thailand (16 million), Macau (12 million)...
