The Pigman, by Paul Zindel, is a young-adult novel about John Conlan and his life in Franklin High. In the story, John meets a girl named Lorraine who ends up being his best friend. During the story, John and Lorraine meet a lonely old man named Mr. Pignati.The character of John changes a great deal over the course of the book. He begins as a rebellious and rude kid that drinks and smokes, and through meeting Lorraine and Mr. Pignati, becomes a more compassionate and caring person. At the beginning of the book, John was rebellious, rude, and liked to smoke and drink.
