The main points in Steve Almond's You Knock My Brains Out Thus Sunday and I Knock Your Brains Out the Next Time We Meet are concussions in professions football plays, long term effects of head injuries to professional football players, and the popularity of watching this sport. There are many points made about how the NFL tries to cover up the severity of the damage done to the players. It is hard to have a disagreeing or agreeing take on these points because most are straight facts. One small example I disagree with is when it mentions a situation where Ted Johnson goes into practice with a concussion and Coach Belichick directs him to wear his jersey and go on the field. One thing that surprised me in the text was the waiver. The way it was stated was surprising to me because it is so straight forward and rather terrifying. I am surprised so many players sign it. The other facts were not as big of a shock to me because I have five brothers who play football so I grew up around these dangers. The text uses many different types of examples, whether it be statistics or quotes. Throughout the entire text, references are made to doctors, surveys, and studies. Other examples used are direct quotes from players who have first hand experiences. I believe the sources are trustworthy because they are coming from professionals such as ESPN, Sport-Related Traumatic Brain Injury Research Center at University of North Carolina, and National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, just to name a few. Conflicting this point, it is hard to tell which sources are one hundred percent trustworthy because the author uses vague terms, such as when he states, “Doctors have autopsied the brains of dozens of former
