Next, debate if one would conside any of these steps more important than another. Procvide a rationale to support your answer. There are five steps that most Policy Analysts attempt to follow and these are: • Definition of the problem • Setting objectives and criteria • Developing alternatives • Analyzing various policies • Ranking and choosing Under the Definition of Problem Policy analysts need to decide which of the problems facilng public organisations are most pressing. There are several questions that need answers, the analyst must seek a clear statement of the problem, information of the nature and range of solutions. These questions include but not limited to: who is affected? Why has the problem surfaced? How does this problem relate to similar problems? E.g. building homes for the disabled: The analyst should be informed about the time or money and the limitations. He/she can talk to those who did similar jobs. Setting Objective and Criteria In setting the objective and criteria, the analyst should be able to say what the project is worth for the agency to achieve result A instead of B, e.g. routing a highway, the factors...

...Managerial Economics & Economic Concepts run at least one input is fixed (all others being variable), and the usual factor of production that is fixed is capital (the firm's buildings, machines, and other fixed assets). Because capital is fixed in the short run, all the costs associated with capital are called fixed costs. In the short run the firm can, in essence, ignore those costs: they will be incurred irrespective of how many units are produced. The costs that change in the short run are "variable costs," which rise or fall depending on how much output the firm produces. The long run is distinguished by the fact that all factors of production become variable. There are no longer any fixed costs. Established firms may expand their productive capacity or leave the industry entirely, and new firms may enter the business. Market Structure: Market structure refers to all features of a market that affect the behavior and performance of firms and consumers in that market. The keys factors in defining a market structure are the short run and long run objectives of buyers and sellers in the market, their beliefs about the ability of themselves and others to set prices, the technologies they employ, the amount of information available to them about the product and about each other, the degree of coordination or non-cooperation they may exhibit, the extent of entry and exit barriers, and the degree of product differentiation. Decision Making: Strategic management...

...In the recent years, cloud computing frameworks such as Amazon Web Services, Google AppEngine and Windows Azure have become increasingly popular among IT organizations and developers. We have seen a phenomenal increase in the usage and deployment of smartphone platforms and applications worldwide. We further identify research gaps covering critical aspects of how MCC can be realized and effectively utilized at scale. These include improved resource allocation in the MCC environment through efficient task distribution and offloading, security and privacy. Mobile cloud computing has recently attracted significant attention from both academia and industry. According to a recent study from Heavy Reading [9] the direct revenue of mobile cloud market will grow to about $68 billion by 2017. It is expected to achieve $1 trillion for the broader mobile cloud market. A similar forecast has also been made by ABI research , which predicts that the number of mobile cloud computing subscribers (like mobile users and mobile application providers) worldwide is expected to grow rapidly over the next five years, rising from 42.8 million subscribers in 2008, (approximately 1.1 % of all mobile subscribers) to over 998 million in 2014 (nearly 19 %). Security and privacy are challenging issues for MCC applications such as m-commerce, m-health and mobile social network applications. These applications are naturally resource intensive in terms of computation and storage. Using cloud computing resources...

...INTERACTIVE SESSION: MANAGEMENT VIRTUAL MEETINGS: SMART MANAGEMENT Instead oftaking that 6:30 A.M. plane to make a round of meetings in Dallas, wouldn't it be great if you could attend these events without leaving your desktop? 'Ioday you can, thanks to technologies for videoconferencing and for hosting online meetings over the Web. A June 2008 report issued by the Global e-Sustainability Initiative and the Climate Group estimated that up to 20 percent of business travel could be replaced by virtual meeting technology. A video conference allows individuals at two or more locations to communicate simultaneously through two-way video and audio transmissions. The critical feature of videoconferencing is the digital compression of audio and video streams by a device called a codec. Those streams are then divided into packets and transmitted over a network or the Internet. Until recently, the technology was plagued by poor audio and video performance, and its cost was prohibitively high for all but the largest and most powerful corporations. Most companies deemed videoconferencing a poor substitute for face-to-face meetings. However, vast improvements in videoconferenc ing and associated technologies have renewed inter est in this way of working. Videoconferencing is now growing at an annual rate of 30 percent. Proponents of the technology claim that it does more than sim ply reduce costs. It allows for "better" meetings as well: it's easier to meet with partners, suppliers, sub...

...HRM 703 Week 1 Overview: Upon completion of this week, you will be able to: 1. Discuss the employment relationship between workers and the company. 2. Discuss how employers can exist without unions but unions cannot exist without employers. 3. Identify reasons why workers unionize. 4. Discuss why unionization is declining in the United States. 5. Analyze the difference between the public sector labor relations and private business. Introduction to this week's topics: Labor relations is the set of processes and activities unions and employers develop and use to clarify, manage, reduce, and resolve conflicts between employees and their representatives while accommodating the various goals of each. The practice of labor relations is governed by contracts negotiated by and agreed to by both parties. Contracts are renegotiated periodically to take into account changing goals and objectives of both parties and changes in the economy and society. Within larger employers that operate several establishments, labor relations will differ depending on what is produced in each establishment and whether different unions represent employees in different establishments. Employers would like complete freedom to alter the terms and conditions of employment in their workplaces, as necessary, to maximize returns on investments and achieve organizational goals. While labor is somewhat mobile, with workers able to move between employers as opportunities occur,...
