Bhattacharyya Department of Electrical Engineering Texas A & M University College Station, TX 77843-3128 U.S.A. datta@ee.tamu.edu bhatt@ee.tamu.edu Abstract In this paper we present a study of some PID tuning techniques that are based on first-order models with time delays. Using the characterization of all stabilizing PID controllers derived in [6], each tuning rule is analyzed t o first determine if the proportional gain value dictated by that rule, lies inside the range of admissible proportional gains. Then, the integral and derivative gain values are examined t o determine conditions under which the tuning rule exhibits resilience with respect t o controller parameter perturbations. Furthermore, a new tuning rule is presented for resilient controller design. ate in tbe sense of providing PID controller parameters that are resilient in the space of the controller coefficients. A controller for which the closed-loop system is destabilized by small perturbations in the controller coefficients is said t o be fmgile [4]. Any controller that is t o be practically implemented must necessarily be non-fragile or Tesilienl so that: (1) round-off errors during implementation d o not destabilize the closed-loop; and (2) tuning of the parameters about the nominal design values is allowed. Three tuning techniques will be discussed: (1) the classical Ziegler-Nichols step response method; (2) the Cohen-Coon method; and (3) the...

...Distribution of Domain Controllers With the fresh install of Windows 2008 R2 both Domain Controllers and Read Only Domain Controllers will need to be deployed in strategic areas of the redesigned network. Since the corporate offices are in Ohio this is where the main domain controller will be located. It has been determined that the Huffman network will have between 50 - 100 users throughout the site which means that a minimum of two Domain Controllers, with universal grouping caching, is recommended to be placed in the network (Morimoto, Noel, Droubi, , Mistry, & Amaris, 2010). “Universal Group Cashing is a process by which an Active Directory site caches all universal group members locally so that the next time clients log on, information is more quickly provided to the client and they are able to log on faster” (Morimoto, Noel, Droubi, Mistry, & Amaris 2010, p. 371). This would be fine if the network was in one location, but Huffman’s network has four locations around the United States which means that only two regular Domain Controllers is not practical for the topography of the business. Domain Controller deployment will be as follows. Each satellite location, including California, Missouri, and New Jersey, will each have a Read-Only Domain Controller in place. The Read Only Domain Controllers is used instead of a normal controller to enhance security throughout the entire network. Read only prevents changes made to sensitive information throughout the entire...

...Canadian Requirements for Auditor Independence Background In December of 2003, the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants adopted new auditor independence requirements that hold auditors to higher professional and ethical standards, thereby further protecting the public interest. The new standard is the result of a rigorous review, consultation and approval process lasting more than a year, and reflects the features of the updated global standard issued by the International Federation of Accountants, combined with the rigour of the Sarbanes-Oxley legislation and SEC requirements for public companies in the United States. The core principle of the new standard is that every effort must be made to eliminate all real or perceived threats to auditors’ independence. Development of the new independence standard began in June 2001, after an Independence Forum of auditors, regulators, academics, analysts and financial statement preparers held by the Public Interest and Integrity Committee (PIIC) concluded that the PIIC should develop a uniquely Canadian independence standard that would be based on the international standard, and incorporate the SEC requirements for audits of public companies. The new standard was first released for public comment in September, 2002, and became effective for engagements starting after December 31, 2003. The standard marks a shift to a more rigorous ‘principles-based’ approach, meaning its applicability goes beyond any specific situation and...

...The following is my beginning analysis on Butler Lumber Company and reviewing its Risk, Opportunity, and financial condition on what is wrong and good about this company. I back up my hypothesis based on the following attainable data; Current Ratio = The current ratio is an excellent diagnostic tool as it measures whether or not BLC (Butler Lumber Company) has enough resources to pay its bills over the next 12 months. The current ratio is computed using the following data, Current Assets/Current Liabilities. The definition of current assets is primarily derived from the Balance Sheet of BLC. It is anything that is easily convertible into cash over or within 1 year. Current Liabilities are a category of liabilities on the balance sheet that represent financial obligation that are expected to be settled within one year. Therefore thus far BLC receives a clean bill of health. For every $1 in CL (Current Liabilities), there is $1.35 in current assets in the first quarter of 1991, $1.45 in 1990, $1.59 in 1989, and $1.80 in 1988 respectively. So how could this be a risky? On the flip side, when comparing the ratio from year to year and in BLC’s case it continues to grow, this could outline potential risk in A) collecting Accounts Receivable or you may be carrying too much inventory. By looking at BLC’s statement both facts appear to be true in nature, you AR continue to increase steadily from $171K in 1988 to $345K just in the first quarter of 1991. Inventory further complicates...

...Case Study #2 1). What is Starbucks Product? Gourmet coffee, sandwiches, teas, and pastries would be the obvious answer but Starbucks also sells atmosphere. They sell a relaxing environment between office and home. Starbucks gives consumers a place where a person can gather with friends instead of going to a local bar. Patrons will meet friends to discuss current events or use the change of environment for working while offering great coffee at high prices but include free internet and at some locations even free cell phone charging. Due to their popularity, Starbucks is now selling “handcrafted” soda, beer and wine, a far cry from the early years of lattes and Frappuccino’s. These are not new products but new to the coffee chain and their introduction would give the obvious impression that Starbucks product strategy is to increase growth not by increasing US locations but offering different items then what they currently stock. 2. What advantages does McDonald’s have in competing with Starbucks for coffee sales? McDonald’s has been somewhat successful with the offering new coffee products when it launched the McCafe line in 2008, a more upscale version of McDonald’s plain cup of coffee. These products are a more reasonably priced version of a gourmet coffee drink and are available with the convenience of a drive through window. As Starbucks sways more in the direction of a fast food franchise it has left some of its fans stating they are no longer pure coffee...

...IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON INDUSTRIAL ELECTRONICS, VOL. 54, NO. 6, DECEMBER 2007 3057 A DSP-Based Remote Control Laboratory Darko Hercog, Student Member, IEEE, Bojan Gergiˇ , Member, IEEE, c Suzana Uran, Member, IEEE, and Karel Jezernik, Senior Member, IEEE Abstract—This paper presents a framework for rapid remote experiment implementation in the field of automatic control. The proposed solution is based on in-house developed embedded control hardware and two commercially available software packages. MATLAB/Simulink is used for rapid experiment control algorithm development, while LabVIEW is used for the user front-end and remote control. A combination of presented hardware and software solutions enables the rapid and easy creation of different interactive remote control experiments. Using this solution, a digital-signal-processor-based remote control laboratory for teaching purposes has been realized. This remote laboratory enables the remote users to easily interact with a set of physical control experiments through the Internet. In the friendly user interface, the remote user can change predefined system parameters and observe system response in textual, graphical, or video format. In addition, this remote laboratory includes a booking system, which enables remote users to book experiments in advance. ...Storage). Network-attached storage (NAS) is a dedicated hard disk storage device that is set up with its own network address and provides file-based data storage services to other devices on the network. 2. NAS devices come in many varieties depending on if you build it yourself or purchase a vendor product. The speed is typically one gigabit Ethernet connection but this can be changed to multiple gigabit, 10 gigabit, fiber optic by adding a pci-e network card(s). Older parts can be used which may be limited to 10/100 megabit. If you need an exact answer for speed, simply look at the wiki on gigabit. The capacity range again varies; people have built 40 TB machines and other just have 2TB. With port replication and add-on hard drive controller cards there is hardly a limit on size. A board with 6 sata ports can be replicated (1 to 5 port) allowing for 30 drives to be attached, if 3TB drives were used in raid 50 that would be 72TB of storage. As far as fault tolerance, raid 50 is fairly stable if set up correctly, raid 10 has been touted as one of the best setups since more drives can fail at one time without data loss. All of those features can be used on typical NAS devices....

...Cameron White Unit 6 Research Paper 1 What is a NAS device? A NAS (Network-Attached Storage) is a server that is dedicated to nothing more than file sharing. It’s usually a network providing data access to a heterogeneous group of clients. NAS usually has a speed of 1GB Ethernet connection but it can be changed to Gb, 10Gb, fiber optic by adding a PCIe network card. They usually have a capacity range from 0-Unlimitied. The capacity varies because you can always add on hardware drive controller cards. You can have a board that has six SATA ports that can allow 30 drives to be attached and 3TB drives are used in RAID 50, then there would be 72TB of storage. When using RAID there aren’t really any fault tolerance. Older models of RAID have been known to lose all storage if one or more drives fail. When using a NAS device there are management features available like using SSL to protect the web management interface to bare minimum, also support of protocols such as SSH for encryption of RSYNC data transfers. SMB’s with more than two dozen users will appreciate a proper management console from which users and permissions can be managed. SMB’s that have deployed Active Directory will be looking for a NAS that supports it as well. Some models can switch off when not in use to save power and you can always play with the settings. NAS can be really helpful and can defiantly be helpful with a family that all has there own computer. With NAS you can have photos and videos and share them/access...

...In: Computers and Technology Unit 6 Research Paper 1: Network Attached Storage UNIT 6 RESEARCH PAPER 1: NETWORK ATTACHED STORAGE NT 1110 WAYNE HOVIS PART 1 What is a NAS device? A network-attached storage (NAS) device is a server that is dedicated to nothing more than file sharing. NAS does not provide any of the activities that a server in a server-centric system typically provides, such as email, authentication or file management. NAS allows more hard disk storage space to be added to a network that already utilizes servers without shutting them down for maintenance and upgrades. With a NAS device, storage is not an integral part of the server. Instead, in this storage-centric design, the server still handles all of the processing of data but a NAS device delivers the data to the user. A NAS device does not need to be located within the server but can exist anywhere in a LAN and can be made up of multiple networked NAS devices. What is the speed of the network adapter available on a NAS device? The speed is usually 1GB Ethernet connection but it can be changed to multiple Gb, 10Gb, fiber optic by adding a PCIe network card(s). It depends on the NAS device. Most newer ones will have Gigabit ethernet, very cheap or old ones may only be 100Mbit and high end ones may have 2 separate gigabit ethernet connections. What is the capacity range? Depending on the type and volume of content you plan to store, there's a choice of capacities...
