The development of technology in the recent years has not only changed the way we visualize a classroom, but also it changes how students learn. One of the biggest issues with the advancement of technology is a teacher understanding how to effectively understand how to utilize and incorporate it into their curriculum. Once the educators understand the positives with the introduction of technology into the classrooms and the students learn how to effectively learn how to utilize the technology to advance their education. Globalization has affected many areas of the human life, most importantly education. Many third world countries have witness a rise in the type education, whether a school was built, tele-video or via the internet to them, this has been greatly influenced by universities from the west. This gives those students an opportunity to increase not only their education but also skills.
The use of technology in elementary and senior High School is an ongoing issue. The lack of continual education for teachers is lacking, and they do not possess the experience or the knowledge in order to utilize the technology in their classrooms as they do with text, chalk boards and over heard transparencies. The use of this advanced technology is more advanced than just using the computer, the Internet, it requires the knowledge of utilizing the information, the was that is presented. The use of technology related to the computers, has provided us with the opportunity to obtain knowledge from numerous new sources and allowing us to present it to a bigger audience (Partnership for 21st Century Skills, 2003).
Most educators come to their schools with a basic understand on how to utilize a computer, but according to the National Center for Education Statistics, only about 20% of the educators were comfortable enough or prepared to utilize the technology in their curriculum(USCA.edu). This has become a huge issue over the years with other countries increasing and utilizing technology more and helping their students advancing their skill sets. With that advancement, those countries excelling in the use of technology has allowed them to better their countries education system, where as we have fallen. The biggest influence or lack of influence has been the lack of knowledge of the advanced technology and the lack of a budget.
With the introduction of the computer and political control of the education with the use of textbook companies, inhibited the educators understanding of the use of computers andadvanced technology in the school. The demands of the state required tests cost 5 million dollars to administer, with that budget it would allow not only the school district to purchase the required technology but will also allow them to provide the proper training to ensure proper utilization. According to Rudnesky (2003), computers need to be utilized daily in order to ensure that we are becoming proficient and to ensure that we are making technology transparent, that it is providing the right direction. When we become proficient in anything, whether its technology or mathmatics, we are giving ourselves the opportunity to truly understanding the information and will be able to compete on a more competetive scale. We will initially utilize the technology because we have to, because it is there, but if we do it with the intent to learn and to advance our education we will grow tremendously.
The globalization of education creates obstacles and areas for improvements. A better or more advanced education will enable us to create the answers to the problems that arise by globalization. What is the goal of globalized education? The current goals of has become of great concern, We need to understand what the end outcome will be and design and implement a plan in order to successfully reach those goals, the main one should be to ensure that our children receive the education they deserve and that they are able to be competitive with children of other Nations. Educational goals are seen to be an area of great concern in the era of globalization. Universities will continually play a immense role increasing a better society. (S. Chinnammai, 2005)
A global society that is driven by the use of technology that contributes to the development of future citizens, our children into more knowledgeable global citizens, intelligent people with a more broad skill set that allows them to become more competitive in the word. The future of a country is their ability to be able to compete in the global market. The developments in technology in education have shown that there is a shift forms us being a industrial based society to one that is information based. We have seen a change in the world towards a complete reliance on the use of electronic devices in order to deliver content. This ahs include the use of videoconferences, Internet has eliminated the barriers of distance. We have a variety of ways to learn with out being actually present in the classroom, this allows us e to open our minds to new ways of thinking. Global education teaches us about issues that cross borders and time zones on subjects such as political, technology and culture. The use of technology gives us access to other areas of the world other than ours.
With the development and advancement of technology, the expenses to run an effective and efficient class room, teachers and school districts are always looking for ways to implement these advances with out incurring the cost themselves. The inclusions of the No Child Left Behind Act( NLCB) this financial burden has gone on to members of the corporate world, think global sponsorships. Apple, a major force in the advancement of technology, has implemented a charitable program since the revision of the IPAD 1 to the IPAD 2. The technological company has asked those who are willing to trade their 1 in for the 2 to donate them to a program they have started, Teach for America. The program has covered over 38 states and has donated over 90000 units to this program. This non-profit organization also sends recent graduates in the educational field to teach in those areas of low income. One the educational initiatives that President Obama implemented in 2009, the Educate to Innovate initiative, was created to ensure that students were able to become competitive in the declining courses, such as Science, and math. The campaign sought the help and guidance of out side experts such as Engineers, CEO’s of major corporations, and other non-profit organizations. The EETT, Enhancing Education Through Technology would enable the educators to utilize technology to personalize learning and in the process improve those ready for college. (tech.ed.gov)
One of the biggest issue that remains, is that not all children have access to education, but with the advancement of education, that has changed, the utilization of the internet and, voice Over IP telephones, video conferencing has allowed those unable to learn, to attend courses taught by educators in other countries. Those countries that could not afford to implement a quality education have the ability to attend courses in more advanced countries via the Internet. Another concern with the education system is how many children have access to it. Many adults and children in third world countries are unable to read or write.
Technology and communication has created a divide between those individuals who can afford it and those who cannot. The universities in the Western world are embracing technology , the third world developing countries are still left behind, and they cannot afford to implement technology into their education systems. Third world countries try and give their citizens a great education, however sever limitations in the delivery of the education hinders them. These countries have adopted ideas from the western countries to show that they are in with the advancement of technology and that they are developing to their own citizens and that they are promoting education.
The effects that globalization has had on education technology and the communication of it, has changed the ways that education is delivered and the defined roles that each play. Since the advancement of technology, we have transitioned from and industrial world to one of Information based. With the advancement of technology is is widening the gap that exist between the rich and poor, this has increased the unemployment rate, trade, race issues, violence and possible suicide rates. The advanced education system has the challenge of ensuring students have the required knowledge, skills to be competitive as children in other countries but the world.
