Copyright is protecting original work from infringement and distribution. Meanwhile, people are infringing the original work without author’s permission. ‘AAGB’ can protect their musical works under the ‘CDPA’. AAGB is the legal author of the song ‘You are accordioningly invited…’. Copyright can last until 70 years after author’s death or 50 years after it was created. Copyright gives monopoly rights to the owners. Copyright is not necessary to be registered, though a tangible form is sufficient. Anyone using those rights without the permission of the legal owner can infringe copyright and is liable for legal action. There are two types of copyrights, moral and economic rights. Since sound parodies can occur, DBE wanted to take actions against AAGB, because they believed that his tune was copied and played to the public, without any permission. However, the lyrics at David’s work are imitated to make them appear ridiculous. David’s lyrics cannot appear to AAGB’s parody. It requires that the audience knows the original work, as seen in target parody, otherwise they will assume the parody to be original. However, David’s song popularity can increase through that parody, since it bears a memorable feature. Since parody cannot show disapproval, however a respect and sympathy can be created through the comic side of the song. AAGB make sure that lyrics are not copied, by avoiding any infringement. However, parodists realise the limited space of the creativity, because they cannot risk any infringement. Finally, the recipient should understand the humorous aspect of the parody. Parodies, as a principle, must take the melody of the original song and use it as a base to build the humourist lyrics on it. Parody is a healthy, social and artistic criticism which cannot be prohibited. Consequently, DBE cannot have successful copyright
