...Training and Development - Test 2 Review Describe/Define the following on the job training methods and describe how and when to use them. Job Instruction Training • A formalized, structured, and systematic approach to on-the-job training that consists of four steps: preparation, instruction, performance, and follow up. • Job instruction training incorporates the principles of behavioral modeling. • The trainer demonstrates task performance on the job and then provides the trainee with opportunities to practice while the trainer provides feedback and reinforcement. • The trainer then monitors the trainee's performance on the job. • This method could be used for call centres. Performance Aid • A device that helps an employee perform his/her job. • Includes signs or props, trouble-shooting aids, instructions in sequence, a special tool or gauge, flashcards to help counsel clients, pictures, or posters and checklists. • Performance aids are used when memorization of sequences and tasks can take too much training time, especially if the task is not repeated daily. • They are also useful when performance is difficult, is executed infrequently, can be done slowly, and when the consequences of poor performance are serious. • Example - McDonald's uses laminated visual aids to remind trainees of the steps in a task as a form of visual reinforcement that they can refer to during training and on the job. Conceptualizing a Business

...Conceptualizing a Business-Lifestyle Fitness University of Phoenix-BUS/475 May 30, 2011 Susan Horvat Conceptualizing a Business-Lifestyle Fitness Throughout the history of human life, life expectancy averages have dramatically increased as we become more educated and aware of how to live longer. In the early 20th century, life expectancy has increased from 47.3 years of age to nearly 77 years of age in 2009 (Polan & Taylor, 2007). As we look at today’s awareness on health, most people are aware of early childhood vaccinations, government spending and debate on health care reform, and the growing debate on childhood obesity. The more we become concerned with the quality of life and prevention of many health diseases, life expectancy will continue to gradually increase. One popular approach to increasing awareness about healthy lifestyles includes the focus on maintaining a healthy eating lifestyle and living actively to ensure the human body is strong in every sense. More companies and businesses have started offering healthy alternatives to their product lines to remain competitive with the growing health awareness trends of most consumers. However, one aspect of healthy living which is just as important as healthy eating or awareness is the personal one-on-one guidance when concerning making the right food choices and fitness activities that individuals need. This industry has not been widely accepted or positively viewed as affordable and necessary. Lifestyle...

Training in Organizations

...employees support training activity; and what training resources are available. Table 3.3 provides questions that trainers should answer in an organizational analysis. Some combination of documentation, interviews, or focus groups of managers and individuals in the training function should be used to answer these questions. The strategic role of training influences the frequency and type of training and how the training function is organized in the company. In companies in which training is expected to contribute to the achievement of business strategies and goals, the amount of money allocated to training and the frequency of training will likely be higher than in companies in which training is done haphazardly or with no strategic intent in mind. For example, companies that believe learning contributes to their competitive advantage or that have adopted high-performance work systems (e.g., teams) are likely to have greater training budgets and conduct more training. The business strategy also influences the type of training. Companies that have adopted a disinvestment strategy are more likely to focus on Outplacement assistance and job search skills training than are companies with other strategic initiatives. Last, the greater the strategic role of training, the more likely the company will organize the training function using the business-embedded or Corporate University Model. Both these models emphasize that training is used to help solve business problems. Support of Managers...
