If you have ever gotten the chills after listening to a song you are experiencing musical frisson. It is measured dopamine that is released in response to music which causes those chills. Changes in skin conductance, heart rate, breathing, and temperature are correlated with pleasurability ratings of the song. Songs have a big influence on the lives of many. Not just the music but the lyrics itself can carry a strong message. Once you take away the background music you are then just left with words that make up rhymes, metaphors, and such other rhetorical devices that develop literature in songs. In “Not Afraid” he sings, “Everybody (everybody) / Come take my hand (come take my hand) / We'll walk this road together, through the storm/ Whatever weather, cold or warm”(Eminem lines 3-6). Instead of sticking to the bad habits make a change to better for the good. Take that guide if it is being providing because it could direct oneself into the right direction instead of down the wrong one. In the poem “It Couldn’t Be Done” the author says, “Somebody said that it couldn’t be done”...He started to sing as he tackled the thing / That couldn’t be done, and he did it! (Guest lines 1,7,8). Determination is an important role in overcoming the impediment. Do not let one hinder the accomplishment that is trying to be achieved. Eminem and Guest expresses to triumph over the struggles and hardships, no matter what the obstacle is or who tells one that can’t. Oneself has to go and prove them wrong. The language that is used to help develop the tone is similar it creates the tone of positivity and confident. The artist of the song “Not Afraid” says, “When I say I'ma do something I do it/ I don't give a damn what you think,”(Eminem lines 17-18). Defeating the odds of others and their opinions.
