...I assumed that the City of Angels musical would be underwhelming, however, the songs were beautiful, emotive and witty and I’ve found myself humming several of them for the rest of the weekend. The performances were strong across the board; however, there were some truly exceptional moments. Abby Cramer excelled as both of her characters – the dependable, overlooked secretary Oolie and the “other woman” Donna in her fiery solo ‘You Can Always Count On Me’. Kirsten Myers brought true passion and subtle differentiation between her two characters Gabby and Bobbi making for a professional stand out performance. Comedic moments were brought from Ashley Mandanas as Buddy Fidler, who played the producer with such flair that it was easy to overlook that she was in fact a...

... The morning had come and as planned we have set sails and are now crossing the channel. Land has been spotted by my lookout form upon the mast and I have been informed that it is Ponthieu, north of Normandy. This is the territory of the Count Guy. He is known to be a fierce man. I pray that this is not fact. The count is in fact a firce man. As soon we ported and I stepped from my ship I was seized by Count Guy’s soldiers as the Count sits horseback directing operations. I have now been taken prisoner but while the Count is a fierce man he did insure that I was treated with respect and allowed to ride in front with my hawk as we journeyed to his capital city of Beaurain. ...I LOVE red shoes! One time my uncle had a pair of red Nikes that made me just druel. He said he would give them to me for $100 because they don't fit him anymore, but at that time I never had $100, then he told me if I wanted the shoes I would have to work for him. He worked as a Pig Breeder, so I had no idea what I would have to do, so he gave me instructions on what i would have to do. First, feed the pigs, and that includes getting a 40 pound bag of Pig Pellets and putting a bag in each stall. second I had to count how many pigs were in each stall, but the catch was I had to get into the stall, and the pigs don't exactly like me. I have been there once before and one tried to ram me. The last thing I have to do is clean there pins, and that...

...George S. Counts and Margaret Haley would agree on that the individual must take the responsibility. Counts talks about how the individual that would aspire to lead society must be responsible to pay the costs of leadership: to accept responsibility, to risk both reputation and fortune, as well as more. Haley says how the American people cannot be made to realize and meet there responsibility to the public schools, no self-appointed custodians of the public intelligence and conscience can do it for them. Both Counts and Haley talk about how it all comes back to the individual. I think Dewey though would respond to George S. Counts, he would agree with him because he as well shares the same beliefs towards progressive education, they both see the problems with it. One part of Counts writing that is confusing is how he talks so bad about progressive education, even listing ten fallacies about progressive...

...How The Count Found Solace “Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine: I will repay, saith the Lord”. (Holy Bible, Romans 12:19) Alexandre Dumas uses his novel, The Count of Monte Cristo, to not only comment on French politics of the time, but to provoke thought about the role of God, especially his judgement and justice. Dumas demonstrates that while society’s justice is easily corrupted by men, the power and responsibility of true justice lies within a higher being Men must trust and honor the judgment of God, and consequently refraining from taking revenge on their fellow men. Alexandre Dumas’ life, which was filled with economic and political turmoil, greatly influenced his literary works, especially The Count of Monte Cristo. Dumas was born into a powerful and respected military family in 1802, in Soisson, France. His father was the first black French general, and served faithfully and dutifully under Napoleon Bonaparte. However, Dumas’ father died in 1806, leaving the young Dumas and his mother impoverished. Beginning in 1823, Dumas worked as a secretary for the Duke of Orleans in Paris. It was also at this time that, Dumas became obsessed with theater and started mixing with artistic and literary crowds. Much of his spare time was spent reading or watching plays, of which he focused on the works of William Shakespeare, who greatly influenced the aspiring writer. In 1829, Dumas wrote the play Henri...

...important between the Count and his prey and between Mina, Lucy and the other men in the story. Being that there’s a lack of genital penetration, sexual intercourse or intimacy was displayed from the sucking and exchanging of blood as Count Dracula would stick his canine teeth into his victims. There is a part in the story where Mina is bit by Count Dracula as well as being forced to bite him in return. “On the bed beside the window lay Jonathan Harker, his face flushed and breathing heavily as though in a stupor. Kneeling on the near edge of the bed facing outwards was the white-clad figure of his wife. By her side stood a tall, thin man, clad in black. His face was turned from us, but the instant we saw we all recognized the Count--in every way, even to the scar on his forehead. With his left hand he held both Mrs Harker's hands, keeping them away with her arms at full tension; his right hand gripped her by the back of the neck, forcing her face down on his bosom. Her white nightdress was smeared with blood, and a thin stream trickled down the man's bare breast which was shown by his torn-open dress….His eye flamed red with devilish passion; the great nostrils of the white aquiline nose opened wide and quivered at the edge; and the white sharp teeth, behind the full lips of the blood-dripping mouth, champed together like...

...HIS 220 - Modern Europe 28 April 2011 The Count of Monte Cristo: Law, Religion and Vengeance “There is neither happiness nor misery in the world; there is only the comparison of one state with another, nothing more. He who has felt the deepest grief is best able to experience supreme happiness” (Dumas p. 1461). This quote appears toward the end of a novel written by Alexandre Dumas, The Count of Monte Cristo. The Count of Monte Cristo believes that in order to reach the ultimate gratification, you must first experience absolute hopelessness. The Count of Monte Cristo writes a letter to Maximilian, claiming that his beloved, Valentine, is dead. For months, Maximilian is depressed and almost to the point of committing suicide. The Count of Monte Cristo then brings Valentine back to Maximilian, creating that ultimate gratification between the two lovers. In the novel, The Count of Monte Cristo, Edmond Dantès is motivated by vengeance on a few people who haves wronged him in the past. Revenge is defined as an exact punishment or expiation for a wrong on behalf of, especially in a resentful or vindictive spirit (dictionary.com). It is a natural instinct for any person to seek vengeance against one who has done them wrong in the past. Many people believe revenge is a bad thing as it creates more hostility than is needed. Revenge is everywhere in The Count of Monte Cristo. No matter the situation, no matter who is speaking, it lurks in the corners, moving the story onward. ...
