...Nomination of Creative Hero Jarek Bielak, Parrish Jackson, Kenneth Negron, Lindsey Ogden, Lisbel Polanco, Seana Thomas, PHL/458 September 29, 2014 Lanny M. Brown, Esq. Nomination of Creative Hero What makes a person a creative thinker? According to Didier (2014), “Creative thinking involves looking at things from a new perspective, coming up with several solutions to a problem and avoiding solutions that are overly simplistic” (para 2). Nicola Tesla did just that. He wanted to improve the world, so he used his educational background and creative thinking processes, and found a solution, better known as AC current. Creative thinking does not stop at the first solution found but continues down many paths until the perfect result is found. Nicola Tesla deserves to be acknowledged as a creative hero. Nicola Tesla was born July 10, 1856 in Smiljan, Croatia. While attending the Technical University of Graz, Nicola studied math and physics. At the same time, Nicola attended the University of Prague and studied philosophy. After finishing school, he migrated to the US in 1884 and was hired as an engineer for Thomas Edison’s headquarters in Manhattan. Edison was pushing direct current and Tesla was working on experimenting with alternating current. In the early 1900, Nicola received backing by the financier JP Morgan, which allowed him to continue to work on his communications network. Nicola Tesla used critical thinking to develop new inventions that we use today...

...Creative Hero PHL/458 Creative Hero The list of creative thinkers is a long one made up of men and women who express themselves in a way that will make an important contribution to society. One who stands out is Bill Bowerman, the co-founder of Nike. Bowerman always had talent and after being in sports long enough he decided to help others by developing footwear that will be more comfortable and help athletes everywhere. It helped that he was blessed with a curious mind which made him a born tinkerer. The shoe he designed that would forever change athletics weighed only four ounces as opposed to the 6 ½ ounces the average athletic shoe of the time weighed. Bowerman was betting that his design would save the runner from lifting approximately 200 pounds in a one mile race. This nationally respected track and field coach would join forces with former runners Phil Knight and Jeff Johnson to create what would become history making running shoes. This shoe would be the brand Nike debuted in 1972, prior to the U.S. Track and Field Trials in Eugene, Oregon. The “Swoosh” was about to make its mark and Steve Prefontaine would be the young man to do the honors. This Oregon native signed with Nike and brought worldwide exposure to the company. Another of Bill Bowerman greatest achievements was in making the University of Oregon the running capital of the world, coaching dozens of milers to break four minutes and in the interim, creating the American jogging phenomenon. Another...

...Ida Tarbell In my experience, a hero can often be described as someone who sacrifices, and puts others before themselves, which is what many people did in American History. Specifically during the progressive period, many big names contributed to the growth of social and political reform. One person that contributed in some way to this booming idea was Ida Tarbell. Family history, and curiosity to achieve something great pushed Ida Tarbell to be the change she wanted to see in her lifetime. Selfless acts done to see this change is a prime example of a hero. Growing up Ida was surrounded by business, and lived in an era which many people were driven to become the change the world needed. For example, Ida’s desire to observe and understand led her to research deeply about...

...The hero archetype is almost always the main character of any creative work; although the archetype can be witnessed as a secondary character as well as the opponent if the main character is a villain. The hero archetype is comprised of a collective of characteristics which defines and sets the standards of the archetype. This hero archetype is very prominent in things such as big blockbuster hits and spans all the way to verbal traditions and myths. One example that captures greatly what it means to portray a hero archetype is Luke Skywalker; the main character of the Star Wars original trilogy. In support of this statement, Luke embellishes characteristics such as intrinsic goodness, courage, and ethical behavior. With these skill-sets...

...Have you ever wanted to be a hero, returning from a war you helped win? Have you ever wished to come home, to the sound of clapping and the look of admiration on everyone’s faces? Sure, war veterans are appreciative of all of this recognition, but being a veteran is more than that. Being a veteran isn’t about going to a war, to come back for the fame and glory. They experience many feelings of depression and yearning. They wish that they never joined the cause, and forget everything else. A hero that shared many of these same veteran feelings is Odysseus, a war veteran in the epic poem, The Odyssey, who is attempting to come home from a long war that ended because of him. Like all veterans, he struggled to accept his actions during the war,...

...selfless. Every person has their own hero. However heroes are meaningful in different ways. For example, some may say Superman is a hero. He always seems to swoop in at the right moment and save the day. Others believe pizza delivery guys are heroes. They drive to you so you don’t have to get up and get your pizza yourself. Whoever your hero is, they are your hero because they mean something to you, even though they may mean nothing to someone else. To me, my hero doesn’t have super-human strength, or hypersonic speed. My hero is someone quite ordinary, someone you might see on an everyday basis. She may seem like an average working person, but she is so much more to me. It’s in the little things she does like getting up everyday to go to work even though she knows she has to fight the same make-up-battle with the same three girls, knowing she has to face those horrible seventh grade boys, knowing she has to deal with the kids who give her absolutely no respect, knowing she has to put up with pesky eighth grade know-it-alls, and yes, even me....

...Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, Oscar de León, the novel’s tragic hero and helpless romantic, trudges through life as an atypical Dominican—“he wasn’t no home-run hitter or a fly bachatero, not a playboy with a million hots on his jock” (Díaz 11)—until he, contentiously, is the first to beat Rafael Leónidas Trujillo Molina’s fukú americanus. Two distinctly different caricatures of the true hero have been drawn by society, each sanctified by Hollywood films in its own right: the “superhero” who retains esoteric powers and uses these for the...

Its a pretty honest and downright straightforward discussion, so dont read it if you arent ready for it In this generation of entitlement, some of it may not make sense, but I guarantee its all true. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ What follows is a list of the 10 qualities of a good leader. 1. Honesty Do or Do Not, there is no Try! Leaders have to be honest. If those under your charge do not trust you, then they won’t follow you. Common sense, if you ask me. 2. Responsibility If you are going to make decisions, then you should take responsibility for the decisions that you make. Good leaders don’t pass the buck or blame other people – they deal with situations that arise and take responsibility...

...In the article, “Four Types of Courage,” by Karen Castellucci Cox, she discusses the significant meaning of the four types of courage; physical, social, moral and creative. When she asked to name a courageous person many people picked a Hollywood hero and others picked real heroes like firefighters or soldiers. She believes our culture teaches us to view courage as a kind of combatant figure, but they come in many forms like a battered wife who finally leaves her husband, a boy who goes against his family wishes and pursues his dream of becoming an actor. Rollo May, a psychologist who wrote, “The Courage to Create,” said, “Courage is not just one emotion among others, but the foundation on which all other virtues and values rest....

...There are those in life who conquer the impossible and open the doors that have not yet been open; they go by the name “hero”. Heroes are, to put it simply, people who put others first and their own needs last. They are well-known for working hard, well after everyone has given up hope. Though it may seem like an impossible task at first, anyone can live up to the title of a hero. It is necessary to remember that heroes come in many shapes and sizes and don’t necessarily have to be affluent. However, what they do need is a personality that is able to influence others. Whether these heroes are real or merely just the work of one’s creative mind, living or passed, they somehow manage to make an impact on humanity. Although becoming a hero is...

...In literature, a hero/heroine, or protagonist, is the principal character of a story, which may be known for special achievements. It´s sometimes used to simply describe the protagonist of a story, or the love interest, a usage which can conflict with the superhuman expectations of heroism. [1] Hero and heroine came to refer to characters who, in the face of danger and adversity or from a position of weakness, display courage and the will for self sacrifice, that is, heroism for some greater good of all humanity. In modern movies, the hero is often simply an ordinary person in extraordinary circumstances, who, in despite the odds being stacked against him or her typically prevails in the end. [2] The villain usually is the antagonist, the evil character in the story, who tends to have a negative effect on other characters or serves as an obstacle the hero must struggle to overcome. In other words, the villain typically a charismatic evildoer who represents, leads, or himself embodies the struggle the hero is up against. [3] Animal Farm is a vivid and eloquent novel written by George Orwell, who aims to prove that human nature and diversity prevent people from being equal. It also successfully presents how the mechanism of propaganda and brainwashing works in totalitarian regimes. Snowball is described as a vivacious pig, which is quick in speech and more inventive. He´s the best at writing; painted out `Manor Farm´ and in its place painted `Animal Farm.´ During he´s...

...21 September 2012 Mike Hagerty Hagerty’s publishing 242 Publisher Lane Blue Springs, Mo, 64015 Dear Mr. Hagerty, As a proud citizen of my community, I believe that there are heroes amongst us all and they are just hiding behind their true self. The reason is that they are too scared to stand up for what they believe in or what they believe needs to be done, in order to create unity. And, that is why I am writing the publisher because I want to try and convince our community that heroes are all around the world and show their powers in different ways. Ohhh… and I’m not talking about NO ordinary superheroes that have all these magical powers; I’m talking about the heroes that simple just uses pure wisdom to influence the ones around them. This story will show the world that there are heroes out there in all different shapes and sizes. And, as far as the story goes, here are the ideas behind my story, so here we go: Way up high in the majestical forests, in the mountain of Emei, in China lives the Somaki people, who had the most inspirational/wise man that ever set foot on the lands called Mr. Morrison. For the people call their village the Spiritual Oracle because of Mr. Morrison; who takes on the form of a monk because of his vibrant white beard and bald head, the fact that he wears glasses and is as short (5’2 to be exact), his face looks as though it is wrinkled in certain areas giving him the effect of audacity allowing him to have the appearance of wisdom...

...Alex Doubl\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\es Lizabeth Thompson \English II [ 11 January 2013 ] Heroes Since time began, people have been creating strong figures to look up to. These figures are known as heroes. The presentation, expectations and qualities of traditional heroes are different than those of modern day heroes, yet all are created in similar ways. Traditionally, past societies and cultures presented their heroes as infallible and set apart from society. Heroes were always expected to help people in distress and in every circumstance conquer their enemy. They were to complete their missions without error and the choices they had to make would be the best for everyone. In the past heroes were better than humans in every way. Heroes were stronger, faster, better looking, more intelligent and indestructible. They also felt that they could perfect the world. Good examples of traditional heroes can be found in Greek mythology. The gods were always watching over the world, but lived on Mount Olympus, separate from society. They helped people in need and were known to be beautiful, cunning and could not be defeated by any mere mortals. Ultimately, traditional heroes were flawless, but as society changed and progressed, so did the heroes. Modern day society views heroes as superhuman, yet relatable and able to fit into society. These modern heroes are expected to uphold a strong moral code...

...about Steinbeck’s novel that never ceases to appeal to all audiences? From Joseph Campbell’s novel The Hero With A Thousand Faces, a twelve step model known as ‘The Hero’s Journey’ and ‘Archetypes’ has been established. The Hero’s Journey is a narrative pattern that the leading character takes on their typical adventure, and the Archetypes are the supporting characters though out the story. The Heroes Journey and archetypes can be perceived in thousands of stories, dramas, storytelling, religious rituals and psychological development including Of Mice and Men. The narrative pattern of, Of Mice and Men starts with the first stage, what Joseph Campbell called ‘The Ordinary World’. George and Lennie’s ordinary world is going around America, from job to job and ranch to ranch to complete their ‘American Dream’, they wished to own their own property and ‘live offa the fatta the lan’. George and Lennie were forced to leave their hometown, Lennie did not realise his strength and got himself into trouble, this was common for Lennie, but George was always there to fix the problem. As discovered by the reader, George is portrayed as ‘the hero’, the natural leader, Slim as ‘the mentor’ who provides George and Lennie with helpful advice through out the novel. Curley is represented as the ‘threshold guardian’ and ‘the herald’ who tests and provides fears and doubts for ‘the hero’ but also makes the adventure possible. Curley’s wife is the ‘shape shifter’ who changes the readers perceptions...
