...Research Critique, Part 2 Introduction to Nursing of Nursing Nursing 433v October 26, 2013 Research Critique, Part 2 Introduction Improving patient satisfaction has been the forefront of nursing for the past decade. Many studies have been executed to assess practice and procedures that will improve patient satisfaction and patient safety. Nursing leadership and bedside nursing staff play a pivotal role in transforming bedside nursing. A critical appraisal was conducted in Australia by Gardner, Woollett, Daly, & Richardson, (2009) on measuring the effect of patient comfort rounds on practice environment and patient satisfaction: a pilot study. This research aimed to test the effect of a model of practice that enhanced the role of the assistant-in-nursing (AIN) on a skill mixed unit (Gardner et al, 2009). Gardner et al, 2009 adopted a quasi-experimental pilot study using a non-randomized parallel group trial design. The purpose of this paper is to identify if hourly rounding will upturn patient safety and satisfaction during their hospitalization. Protection of Human Participants. The authors of this study did not disclose any risk related to the study, however, one main benefit is this is a pilot study assessing techniques and tools for a larger study in the future. The piolet was regulated over an eight week span within a matched surgical unit including an experimental and control group. The intervention unit includes a sample of 61 consenting patients and 23...

...Research Critique, Part 2 INTRODUCTION Approximately 20 million low birth weight (LBW) infants (infants weighing < 2,500 gm) are born each year (Samra, Taweel, & Cadwell, 2013). According to the World Health Organization (WHO), LBW infants are "more likely to die early, and those who survive may suffer illness, stunted growth or even problems into adult life" (WHO, 2015). Nyqvist et al. (2010) states kangaroo mother care (KMC) started in Colombia in the 1970s (as cited in Samra, et al., 2013, p. 194). "The hallmark of KMC is the kangaroo position: the infant is cared for skin-to-skin (ventral surface of the mother to ventral surface of the baby) vertically between the mother's breasts and under her clothes, 24 hr per day, with the father/substitute(s) participating as relief KMC providers" (Samra et al., 2013, p. 194). Care of the LBW infants has an increased cost since most end up in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). The effect of intermittent (KMC) on the weight gain of LBW infants was the main point of this study (Samra, et al, 2013). Because of the increased cost associated with taking care of the LBW infant, if studies can show that intermittent KMC could decrease the length of time the infant stays in the NICU, then this practice would be beneficial to both the family and the health care facility. Topics to be discussed in this paper include 1) protection of human participants, 2) data collection, 3) data management and analysis, and 4) findings/interpretation...

...DATA COLLECTION The purpose of the study is to define the gestational age as term or preterm depending on gestational week, as determined by the last menstrual period and ultrasound. The statistical information were gathered from medical records of a clinic, it is uncertain the determination of gestational age through ultrasound was indicated and who measured date or obtained medical record report, it is very pertinent to know who obtained the data report and its preciseness and correctness of information is important. QUANTATIVE ANALYSIS Ickovics et al 2003 utilize both descriptive and inferential statistics to scrutinize the data, the reason for the study was to evaluate the difference among the two groups, for the inferential statistics the McNemar test was used, which was suitable for the degree of enquiry due to the matched group, the Cohort design was also implemented as they intended to quantify between groups. Also as relates to the variables outcome. (Polit & Beck 2008). The paired T test was also proper for the study due to the fact its purpose is to test the differences among the two groups that are either paired or matched on the essence of the characteristics. The F test was also implemented, it occurs as the test used when apply multiple linear regression as this F statistics has been utilized while stipulating the influence between birth weight and preterm delivery (p1054). The purpose of linear regression is to describe the amount of the outcome variable...

...Critical Analysis of a Quantitative Study Introduction Research analyzing is a process in which a research undergoes a careful examination for its strength and weakness. Analyzing a research gives the nurse a chance to know the credibility of the study, its findings to see the evidence base for practice or utilization or application of the findings into the care practice. This paper is about analysis of a research conducted in relation to wound care in primary health care. This research took place in Stockholm, Sweden. The study shows a descriptive quantitative approach in investigating district nurse wound care management. Protection of Human Participants For this study district nurses (DNs) working at primary health care centers (PHCs) were randomly selected, to make sure that differences between sample and population are a function of chance. The nurses got information in writing and verbally the reason for the study and that the information used will be confidential. Participants remained anonymous in the results presentation. Ethics Research Committee at Karolinska Institute gave an approval for the research proposed. In addition, the researchers got permission from director in each health care to obtain samples. Twenty-three primary healthcare centers met the research criteria but only five randomly were selected from Stockholm, Sweden and two sub-urbs for the study. No force for participation found. Data Collection The study involved a survey based on the...

...Modern GPUs use most of their transistors to do calculations related to 3D computer graphics. They were initially used to accelerate the memory-intensive work of texture mapping and rendering polygons, later adding units to accelerate geometric calculations such as the rotation and translation of vertices into different coordinate systems. Recent developments in GPUs include support for programmable shaders which can manipulate vertices and textures with many of the same operations supported by CPUs, oversampling and interpolation techniques to reduce aliasing, and very high-precision color spaces. Because most of these computations involve matrix and vector operations, engineers and scientists have increasingly studied the use of GPUs for non-graphical calculations. An example of GPUs being used non-graphically is the generation of Bitcoins, where the graphical processing unit is used to solve puzzles. In addition to the 3D hardware, today's GPUs include basic 2D acceleration and framebuffer capabilities (usually with a VGA compatibility mode). Newer cards like AMD/ATI HD5000-HD7000 even lack 2D acceleration, it has to be emulated by 3D hardware. [edit]GPU accelerated video decoding The ATI HD5470 GPU (above) features UVD 2.1 which enables it to decode AVC and VC-1 video formats- GPU from Vaio E series laptop Most GPUs made since 1995 support the YUV color space and hardware overlays, important for digital video playback, and many GPUs made since 2000 also support MPEG...

...German Philosophy: Kant’s concept of reason Critique of Pure Reason Prateek S Kolhar (EE10B109) 29th April 2014 1. Introduction During the period of enlightenment in Europe, there were 2 schools of thought that talked about the way we acquire knowledge: Rationalism and Empiricism. Rationalists like Leibniz claimed that knowledge is innate, that is, we are born with all the knowledge and the experiences that we have in this world just help us in uncovering/ remembering this knowledge. Empiricist believed that all knowledge is got only through experience in other words we are born with our minds/souls like a clean slate and the experiences write on them. With this struggle between the two schools of thought enlightenment Europe was striving to find ways to arrive at a consensus about some of these aforementioned central issues of theory of knowledge. And the champion of a philosopher who accomplished with task was Immanuel Kant. Kant borrowed many concepts from both empiricism and rationalism. But he felt that the many of the rationalist ideas were too simplistic and dogmatic and some of the empiricist ideas we too skeptic about the ability of humans to acquire true knowledge. As a part of his critical philosophy, with an aim to resolve this problem of theory of knowledge he wrote 3 critiques: Critique of pure reason, Critique of practical reason and Critique of judgment. Critique of Pure Reason talks about the process of knowledge acquisition in natural sciences, the way...
