I. Introduction
In this big world, human race is widespread into many countries. The countries are divided into regions, after that the regions are divided again into cities. Finally, the cities are divided into territories. Each territory has different culture for instance, in a territory, people who wear short pants and crop tees are considered to be bad people. But in another territory, people who wear something like that are very usual. Even though every territory has different culture, but all of them will be united into one culture of a country. They have to follow and obey the rules of the country otherwise they will be considered as bad people. Because of that, this world has various types of culture that are adopted by different people. Still, even though every culture is different, we cannot judge the other culture is bad only because in our culture doing those behaviors are not considered as good things.

The differences on culture make the leadership type of every country is different too. First we have to know what the meaning of leadership is. Leader is someone who gives positive direction to the organization and has the full responsibility of an organization. Leadership itself is the ability of someone to give directions to his or her organization in order to accomplish the mission of the organization. Not all people can have the ability to become a leader because by being a leader means that that person has a full responsibility of everything that has been done in the organization. If that person cannot be a good leader for his or her people in an organization, surely the work of that organization will not be done as what the mission is. A person who becomes a leader has to be strong physically and mentally. Also, that person has to have abilities to manage something, think critically, open-minded, not being a panic person so if there is a sudden problem that has to be solved immediately, she or he can handle the problem calmly so that problem can be solved properly. After that, a person who wants to be a leader should have a good ambition, fair to every people in organization so there will be no discord in an organization and the most important thing is that being a leader means that a person has to give a good influence to the people in the organization.

There are many types of leadership based on the culture and countries. For instance, in Indonesia a leader or supervisor has to be fully respected by his or her employees. Everything that the leader asks the employees to do, they have to do that. That is why Indonesia has high power about distance which is seeing and respecting people based on their position. Also, in Indonesia, the way of Indonesian leaders express their meanings are very complicated. They are not directly told how something should work or if there are employees that the leaders need to be fired, the leaders are not telling them right away. Maybe, they will first give the employees some instructions or tell a story about the decreasing of profit in company then tell them they need to be fired. Usually, the leaders will send letter of termination to the one that will be terminated so they do not need to see the “sad face” of the employee. Indonesian leaders also like to give their employees to work in a group if there is a big project. It is to make the employees can express their opinions one to another and to make them closer. To work in a group is Indonesia culture that sticks in the society. They think it will be easier and quicker to solve a problem in a group. Finally, Indonesian leaders in the past were usually not on time and very flexible about time. Maybe in the company, among many rules, none of them was a punishment for being not on time. But lately, there is a new rule in the company about the punishment for not being on time. Also, some of Indonesian leaders now are very strict about time.

As for west countries like America, the leadership type is like employees are free to express their opinion as long as it is a good opinion and the power distance in America is relative small. So it is fairer because everyone can express what they really feel even though their position is not high. Another example is leadership type in Japan. In Japan, the leader or anyone who becomes a supervisor holds a full responsibility if in any bad case, the employees do something inappropriate or there is a failure of accomplishing the goals because of the employees or the group. The leader has to prepare her or himself to be out of the company if something really bad happened even though it is not his or her fault. Also, in America, the leader or supervisor tend to face high risk to accomplish the company’s mission and to give company profits. As for in Indonesia, most of the leader tend to avoid something risky for the company and they will take a safer decision. In Egypt, the people in an organization tend to praise their leader because they believe that whoever becomes a leader has a good power in the environment and that is why those people look this leader as a hero of the organization.

By seeing the difference of types of leadership in the America and other countries with Asia and its surrounding, we can take some main differences which are obvious. First, the west countries’ leaders are stricter about time. They do not like if their employees are late also if there are meeting with clients, they really do not like if the clients come late. In contrast with east leaders which are now improving about this problem, but they still like to be late on a meeting or in a work because they think this problem is a habit of Indonesia that must be accepted. Second, west leaders tend to be strict for everything they need to say. They do not like to talk round and round about something. They will say directly what they need to say so they do not like if their employees do not talk directly or they cannot express their opinion strictly. It is okay for west employees to express their disagreement about something as long as they still respect their leaders. But in east countries, the leaders tend to talk abstractly. This means when they need to tell “A” to their employees, first they will explain B-D first then they will tell “A”. That is why they speak too complicated. Also, east employees do not really express their opinions due to the high power distance that makes leaders are number one.

We as human being in this world have to accept that we are not perfect. We can do any mistake even though we are diligent, smart, and open minded. Sometimes we know that what we are really doing are wrong but we still have to do them because of some reasons. It is the same with management in the world. We cannot expect to have a perfect leader; also the leader cannot expect that his or her employees will be perfect. In our countries too, we cannot expect much from our government, not because they do not do hard works, but because they are humans and they will still make mistakes. Sometimes there will be no justice to low people and the one who does not have power cannot do anything.

But, if we want to change the imperfection into perfection we still can do it. For example, in the past, Indonesian is not on time. But in line with the changing times and they realize how important it is to be a punctual person, eventually turning them into people who are more concerned about each time it runs. That is why we, as human being need each other. It is to know what our faults are and we can fix them even though we cannot perfectly fix them but at least we tried. Also, there are some conflicts that we have to solve due to the various cultures in the world. We cannot say that other countries’ or regions’ culture are wrong, because everyone has his or her perception on something. First we have to know what conflict is. Conflict is the problem that appears does to the different ways of thinking of people in a group, region, and country. Conflict is something that we cannot avoid because it is the way of human being lives in this world. Conflict can be happened because of several things. First is because of different way of thinking. For example, if A said that eating junk foods are not good for health so A prohibits B to eat junk foods. But on the other side, B is always eating junk foods, feels that junk foods are delicious and not bad for health. So B gets mad at A because A prohibits B to eat junk foods. Second, conflict can be happened because of globalization. Many elder people think about Indonesia is now opened to globalization are not good because it will change the way people think, do things that are prohibited in Indonesian culture, and the elders will think that globalization is a bad thing. But on the other side, the younger people think that being open minded is a good thing. We can know better about other people’s culture and take good sides from their culture. We can use a better technology in our life thanks to the globalization. We think that we can take many good sides of globalization to the development for our country and we can just throw away the bad sides of globalization. Third, a conflict can be happened because of the importance or goal of every person is different. For example, A’s goal is to get the first rank in the class so she studies very hard and listens very well if the lecturer teaches her. On the other side, B thinks that she wants to live her life happily without thinking about her grade so she always makes the class becomes noisy. A scolds B for being too noisy in the class and then conflict is made between them. Conflict can be happened because other things too. A leader can help his or her organization to solve the conflict between the people in organization. First, a leader has to know what makes the conflict happened. After that, the leader should have a talk with the persons who have conflict. The leader has to be fair to both of them about solving the problem so there will be no conflict again. Finally, the leader should give them positive advices and tell them how bad for them to have conflict each other. We as the citizen of a country will always watch the conflict by our government and institution. For example, some of our governments take the bribe from businessmen to make their businesses become easier. Maybe for them taking a bribe is not a shame but for the country it is. Every year, if we search in Google then we will know which country has the highest index on corruption and bribe which makes the country becomes ashamed even though not people who live there do the corruption. A manager has to know about the country that he or she lives very well to know which responsibility should the manager takes and what the consequence is for being a manager in that country. For example, if a manager works in a Nigeria company, then he has to know the consequence about being in a country with high index of corruption. He has to convince the investor to come to that country without having trouble with the corruption in that country. II. Body
If we live in Indonesia, we will watch news about corruption in Indonesia all the times in television. Until now, Indonesia occupies rank 107th as the low incorruptibility and low ethical behavior. In 2014, Indonesia occupied rank 114th as the low incorruptibility and low ethical behavior. It is increased by 7 from 2014 and the government has already showed the ability to decrease the corruption in Indonesia. But still, if we compared with Filipina which decreased its corruption index from 129 to 85 in 3 years, Indonesia’s effort to decrease the corruption is far away from Filipina. Being 107 from 175 of corruption rank makes investors are a little bit afraid to invest in Indonesia. Managers have to be more aware about this problem because if managers cannot convince the investors to invest in Indonesia, then the company will slowly lose many investors.
Most of corruptions in Indonesia are done by the people in government. Many people always said that having jobs in the government will make people there do the corruption. This is happened because even though there are so many rules in Indonesia, but almost none of them work for the people in the government. Also, in Indonesia, people who are already rich will become richer and people who cannot even eat and drink will suffer because of the rich people. Persons who work in government think that they have to do corruption because the other does that too. Even the high state officials do corruption too so they cannot arrest the persons who do the corruption too. In Indonesia, law can be bought by money. If someone goes to jail, as long as he or she is capable to pay the police, he or she will not stay long in the jail. It is different with people who have no money. For example, in Indonesia there was a case about a grandmother stole hens from her neighbor. Of course it is not a good thing. But she said that her grandchild was sick and she did not have husband, also didn’t work. Forcedly, she had to steal to pay for her grandchild’s treatment. But unfortunately, she had to go to jail for 5 years. But the corruptor, even though they steal a lot of money from the citizen, they do not even feel guilty because of that. If the Corruption Eradication Commission catches them due to the corruption, they will easily hire a good lawyer to make him out of the problem. If they still have to go to the jail, they will pay the police so they can at least still go out to the mall even though they are supposed to live in jail. This shows how fairness in Indonesia does not work at all.

The main factor corruption can be happened in Indonesia is because the bad habit of Indonesian people to get something easily. It is not only about corruption but also since young we tend to get scores easily by cheating. If we cannot stop our habit to cheat, maybe we can be like the corruptors. Some of the students will always cheat even though they actually can do well but they do not have self -confidence. Also, the other factors that can make Indonesian do the corruption are first, Indonesian government is more focused about how to increase our economy without increase our education. We live in a developing country, so the government is supposed to spend more money to increase the citizen’s education because if our country has a lot of educational people, then we will find many ways to build our country. Second problem is that some people do the corruption because their salary is too low. Even though Indonesia has a low living cost but we still need a lot of money to raise our children if we have already had a family. And the minimum salary in Indonesia is not too much. It is 2.600.000 rupiah. We still need to pay the tax so that amount is not really enough for us. Also about the tax payment, we feel like we pay the tax for nothing. The tax payment is being corrupted by the government people and we will not get the feedback for paying the tax.

Cross-Cultural Management

...Cross-Cultural Management: Reflection Part. 1 of 2: Traditional Aboriginal Culture and Traditional Chinese Culture This reflective report will attempt to compare and contrast between Traditional Australian Aboriginal Culture and Traditional Chinese Culture. Ferraro & Briody (2013) defines culture as the shared perceptions among group of two or more people, their beliefs, values and behavioural patterns, which ultimately shape their way of life. I will analyse the two cultures around Hodstede’s cultural dimensions, Collectivism. Collectivism determines the degree of close-knit characteristic of the group (Hofstede n.d.). The insight this framework provides could be use as a guide in managing organisations’ and nationals’ cultural difference. The traditional Chinese live off small area of land, mainly used for cultivation of rice. In order to maximise yield, seeding and harvesting period are heavily depends on friends and relatives to help get the job done (Gladwell 2008). This interdependent behaviour is found not only at the family level but also at community level. Chinese society follows the teaching of Confucius, which promotes interdependence and social harmony (Chuang & Su 2009). To avoid potential social conflicts and encourages cohesiveness, Chinese are more likely to compromise their own needs and coordinate their behaviour with the situation (Nisbatt & Masuda 2003). It is common for Chinese to live with their married son. Family structure becomes more...

Cross Cultural Management

...assignment, a conscience effort has been made to understand the concepts of “Cross Cultural Management” (CCM). Before we get into the dept, it is important for us to understand “Culture” in broad terms. The expression “culture” can be defined as the inherited values, concepts, and ways of living which are shared by people of the same social group. To simplify further, culture is divided into two kinds; the first is “generic culture” which is essentially a shared culture of all humans living on this planet. The second is “local culture” which refers to symbols and schemas shared by a particular social group. The local culture can also be understood from the simple that every country has a diverse and different culture which may be similar, but it certainly cannot be the same. Culture is different in many forms and contents that include factors that we can see like language, behavior, dressing and food; and others that we cannot see like beliefs and values. With the advent of Globalization, the world is now a global village and the technological achievements of this modern time have brought people closer together than ever. This also means that people from different parts of the world and with different cultural backgrounds are working and communicating together. While this is not only interesting, but dealing with people from different cultures requires conscience efforts in knowing the cultural diversities. This can be further be explained with examples like the way we deal...

...number of methodological issues that can be problematic in cross-cultural studies that use self-report survey instruments. This paper reviews the organizational research literature to identify the common practices being used in relation to these issues. A framework is established for this analysis that involves three stages related to the research process. These stages are 1) the development of the research question, 2) the alignment of the research contexts, and 3) the validation of the research instruments. A sample of cross-cultural studies was examined in the context of these three stages, and served as a basis for the identification of some “best-practices” that are meant to deal with cross-cultural complexities. Introduction International perspectives are becoming more prevalent in today’s study of organizations. As business continues to take a global outlook, theoretical constructs commonly used in domestic research will need to be applied to new cross-cultural arenas. Recently, researchers have begun to take notice of some important methodological issues associated with the use of survey instruments in cross-cultural research (e.g., Cheung & Rensvold, 1999; Riordan & Vandenberg, 1994). These issues can have a strong impact on a study’s results, and on the subsequent interpretation of those results. If researchers ignore the difficulties inherent in using self-report questionnaires in cross-cultural studies, the field as a whole may be subject to misinterpreting...

Cross-Cultural Management: An Overview

...Introduction: Back ground of cross cultural management: To understand what cross-cultural management is, it's good to examine the terms separately: cross-culture and management. Cross-culture might simply be understood literally, from one culture to another. Cross-culture could be a development born by market globalization; company goes out of their country to another to try and do business, brings their culture with the businesses to another culture, which means cross-culture. Every country has its own culture, it's perhaps almost like another one, and however they are not a similar. Culture is totally different by its contents and forms, 100 percent of which is what you'll be able to see, like language, behavior, and food and dressing, 90% make the most that is what you cannot see, like beliefs, values, and ways of thinking [Pu jing (2010)]. Cross-culture shows within the variations of the 10 visible and 90%invisible culture content. International organizations are a decent example of cross-culture; they are doing business internationally, anytime they enter into a new country, cross-culture happens with it. The first to introduce the term “intercultural communication” was Edward T. Hall who characterized it as "correspondence between two people of distinctive societies". The expression "Intercultural business correspondence" in the of world business is another presented term which may be characterized as the correspondence that happens inside of associations whereby there...

Cross-Cultural Differences in Management

...Cross-cultural Differences in Management If you talk about the culture can tell that it is an issue that causes a great impact on society since each person have different ways of seeing and resolve things, values and habits that we have been implemented throughout our lives, depending on the place where we grew up. This may affect our workplace, because today we live in a globalized society. Human beings have different perceptions about the way in which we work on every day in our work. For example, there are countries where they are used to work collaboratively and in others not prefer to do so individually. We can say that culture is dynamic, since this is something that you can go transforming and molding in accordance with time and experiences that live or that we need to experiment. What should be clear is that there are no social classes in the culture, and we should not be discriminated against by this. From this concept born intelligent culture where we see the adaptability of staff with their environment, to overcome obstacles and be able to adapt to the way of working in a company or in another place, we must not forget that we live in a globalized world. The cultural management is a professional activity that is linked to the existence of a project, facilitating the realization of a fact of any nature. Cross Cultural Management - Hofstede

...along with cultural differences and with regard to business in multinational companies varying cultural behaviour plays an important role. Geert Hofstede, a famous Dutch management researcher, recognized the high explanatory power of these differences in his famous “national influences” – study (survey of 160,000 managers and employees of 60 countries). In compliance with Hofstede’s studies the most important results are the following: * Even though working in the same multinational company attitudes and behaviour of employees and managers can strongly differ form each other according to their cultural roots. * In contrast to factors like age, profession, gender, etc. the key component of “national culture” has a higher force of expression as well as a greater explanatory value. In summary Hofstede was able to identify the following dimensions as those ones in which employees and managers distinguish the most: “individualism/collectivism, power distance, uncertainty avoidance, […] career success/quality of life” (Adler N.J., Gundersen A., International Dimensions of Organizational Behaviour, p. 51) and long/short term orientation. The following paper shall give an overview of Hofstede’s cultural dimensions referring to business organizations in my home country Germany. For clarification purposes several proverbs are used to give the reader an understanding of Germany’s cultural distinctions in the field of organizational contexts. 2) Hofstede’s cultural dimensions...

Cross Cultural Management of Japan & United States

...Cross Cultural Management of Japan & United States One concern of the merger between these two companies involves group interaction and sense of space. People in the United States take great pride in themselves on individualism and informality. The Japanese culture values groups and formality. People in the United States admire a person who excels above everyone else. If this merger takes place and it makes the price of stock to rise, the American company might want to buy more stock and the Japanese might not agree with this and be more cautious which could result in a cross-culture conflict. Cultural differences and cross culture conflicts is the biggest challenge in terms of cross-cultural management that will arise in the merger of these two companies (Chen, 2013). Due to differences in culture in terms of beliefs, priorities and lifestyles, management of cross culture operations will be difficult for both companies. It is because cultural differences affect the human thinking, feeling, acting and behavior that can result in cross culture conflicts within the organization (Adekola and Sergi, 2012). For example, in terms of language, religion, value, and attitudes, there are several cultural differences in both countries: U.S. and Japan, which can affect decisions and choices of employees or people from these countries and can cause to cross culture conflicts (Yoder, 2011). ...CROSS CULTURAL MANAGEMENT FIRST REFLECTIVE ESSAY TISSA ADJANI - 1357809 What Kind of Training Would You Personally Prefer to Support the Development Your Cultural Intelligence, and why? You have probably seen one of HSBC advertising that show a three different perspective about a rug. Some people may say it is a decorative item, some people say it is a souvenir, and also there are some people that call it a place to pray. The different point of view comes up because we have a different culture between us. The one who say is a decorative item maybe comes from Europe, the other who say it is a souvenir maybe comes from Turkey and the other one who say it is a place to pray comes from Arabic country. We have our own Cultural Intelligence that makes us have a different perspective.
