TO: All Employees SUBJECT: Employee Handbook
FROM: Boardman Management Group DATE: November 24, 2014
The purpose of this memorandum is to explain the reason behind designing the employee handbook that is attached. Subjects discussed include explaining the value and team-based culture, the mission statement, the main areas covered in the handbook and how this handbook will move us forward. The handbook will also cover employer responsibilities and employee rights.
The company is a value and team-based culture. Baderman Island Resort aims to please the customers who cause employees to stretch the rules at times to make the guests comfortable. The company also conducts random acts of kindness, which also support a value-based culture. Boardman Management Group empowers its employees, which encourages a team experience as they consider all employees as family.
The values of the company are articulated through the mission statement. The mission statement reads “…dedicated to managing leisure and convention focused resorts that provide a unique and quality experience to guests and visitors. The Board of Directors and operational leaders in the organization, empowers its staff to offer unsurpassed quality of customer service, through individual acts of random kindness and specialty services” (Boardman Management Group, 2012, p. 1). This mission statement reflects that the company is a value and team-based culture. This type of culture will permits adjustments to ensure the most comfortable stay for the guests as this their home away from home. It takes a team working together to provide this experience.
The main areas covered in the employee handbook are the cultural values of the organization, employer responsibilities, and employee rights. The employee handbook will provide the foundation for the employer and employee to move forward and make the most of the value and team-based culture desired in our company.
Employee Handbook
Cultural values of the organization
The values of the organization encompass teamwork and a value-based culture. We are an integrity-based company and realize at times the rules must be bent to satisfy our customers. We choose to enforce a “particular set of values rather than a particular set of rules” (Harman & DesJardins, 2011, p. 153). This empowers the employees to make decisions on their own to provide a home away from home that we want our guests to experience. We also encourage teamwork that supports our value-based culture. Our employees are vital to running our business successfully; as a result, upper management welcomes questions and will provide advice anytime.
Employer responsibilities
Employer responsibilities consist of providing active support to our employees. We are available for any questions or concerns. It is our responsibility to provide the foundation needed to encourage a value-based culture. We realize that there will be decisions that need to make without our input. In addition, we applaud these decisions as long as it makes the most of our customer’s experience.
Employee rights
We realize that our employees are our most important assets, and this is a clear statement of the value we hold for our employees. We aim to hire people who support our values, and as a result, we want you to be aware of your rights. You have the right to make your own decisions regarding guests. You also have the right to ask your superior questions at any time. You have the right to privacy and to be treated legally and ethically.
