...International trade, the problem of cultural differences does rack many managers' brains. Have to say that it is a great challenge for all multinational corporations, especially for those just entering a market without experience. Whether it is an individual or a team can't avoid culture shock when they want to go abroad. For instance, I can't bargain when I want to buy a laptop in PC world due to language, let alone when I would like to sell goods. Whereas if a firm can learn and embrace target market's culture well, it will be able to understand the needs of those consumers deeply. This is not a short time to achieve the goal, managers need to show patience, initiative, sensitivity. The first method is to employ local people, the locals understand local consumption habits, festivals, religion, social system better than foreigners. So it is something we all take for granted: the locals can manage locals easier or build local ties better. In addition: Cultural exchange is a two-way process, after local employees working with foreign staffs, the locals can give suggestion to help foreign staffs to adapt faster. For example: There are two telecommunications companies want to expand business in U.S.. One is from India, another is from China.Indian company's U.S. division has been fully localized, senior staffs are almost all Americans, it has been deemed to come from behind global competitors after U.S. local telecommunications giant's did a strategic analysis. On the contrary, Chinese...

...THE ROLE OF PERSONAL VALUES IN AN ADVANCED PERSPECTIVE OF TOTAL QUALITY MANAGEMENT Author: Salvatore Moccia Universidad de Valencia Abstract Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to analyze the relation between personal values and the principles of Total Quality Management and thus to propose a tentative framework of relationships. Design/methodology/approach: The paper is conceptual. It reviews some lists of values present in literature, and summarizes them in a more comprehensive list. Then it follows the definitions of these values according to some philosophical models, and the analysis of their implications in the business life in general. Thus, tries to explain the relation between them and the principles of TQM, passing through the two mediating variables passion and trust. Findings: A model of quality management based on personal values is proposed. Research limitations: The lack of empirical data that can validate the model, and the lack of specific hypothesis of investigation. Practical Implications (if possible): Considering the emphasis placed on personal values, the model can have some practical implications in the field of recruitment, promotion, and leadership. Originality/value: The model fills the gap between personal values and the principles of Total Quality Management, being the first attempt to present a comprehensive model of interactions. A novel framework that can provide a basis for further research into the profound nature of quality management has...

...19th century. The industrial and scientific revolution marked this period. To this end, slaves were in high demand on industries and plantations like the ones in South America. Most production was labor intensive, and this nature perhaps explains the intensification of the slave trade during this period. However, missionaries, philosophers and economists like Adam Smith started anti-slavery campaigns. Like Adam Smith, he was very certain that free people are more productive than slaves. Inhumane acts marked the lives of slaves. Masters could whip their Slaves even in public, and they were tied to immobilize them from running away. Thanks, to the antislavery campaigns through evangelism that led to the end of slave trade and slavery. An analysis of the second great awakenings reveals that there is a link between the evangelical spirit and the "reforming Impulse." This link animated the many movements of social reform in the years leading up to the American Civil War. The American evangelicals depicted Americans as the most religious people in the world. It gives an account of the American religious history and how the Protestant churches like the American Methodist Church came along. Several Protestant churches resulted from divisions in the denominations (McLoughlin 4). The American civil war resulted from the ideological differences between camps in America. On one hand was the side that was headed by preachers. This camp conducted...

Asch (personal communication, November 6, 2014) explained her job responsibilities include leading groups, creating lessons, helping the children progress in school, and home visits occasionally. She began working at daycare centers in high school, attended college for a few years, took a few years off to raise children, and then began looking for classroom jobs. The families that have attended her classroom are from both similar and diverse cultural backgrounds. She has had students from Hispanic, African American, Middle Eastern, Asian, and Caucasian families. There are rewards that accompany working with diverse families, Asch explains that she enjoys teaching the children about different cultures as well as learning about them from the children and parents. The students tell her stories about their families and their cultural practices, such as holidays, which she encourages them to tell. It is rewarding for her to be able to make connections with the students and their parents. A specific example that she always remembers is about an African American child from a lower SES who was in one of her classes who did not have the best life at home. He had problem behaviors and trust issues, but she was able...

...Summary 1.0 Introduction The prevalence of internationalisation and globalisation of businesses in the twenty-first century has reiterated the importance of effective cross-cultural communication to achieve any level of progress or success. "Culture" is defined by Geert Hofstede, as "the collective programming of the mind distinguishing the members of one group or category of people from another". This report will identify national cultural differences between the U.S. and France within the case study "European Negotiations - Southern Candle's Tour De France" . Hofstede's cross-cultural communication theoretical framework will then be primarily used to analyse the cause and effects of these issues. 2.0 Identification of Problems/Issues 3.1 Intercultural Issues - Mr Durand expressed interest in learning more about the design process for making three-dimensional sculptured candles, however Mr Picard's practical decision to take a technical staff member to their meeting may have been inappropriate given Mr Durand's premier position within the company. - The way in which Mrs Dubois accepted Mr Durand's compliment of her French language skills may have been perceived as immodest. In French society, compliments are generally downplayed by the recipient as a sign of humility. Also, to a native French speaker, her exposure to the language over five years could be considered as nominal. - Mr Picard's surprise at their two hour long lunch suggests...

...July 13, 2010 GM598 – International Business Case Analysis Assignment: DMG-Shanghai 1. Why do you think that it is so important to cultivate guanxi and guanxiwang in China? According to the closing case on page 117 of the textbook, guanxi is based on reciprocity, which is the undertaking of higher authority to accept an obligation to return a favor in the unspecified future whenever they benefit from the guanxi network. The development and expansion of the guanxi is a form of social investment that enriches the executive's resources and future potential. The importance of cultivating guanxi and guanxiwang in China is to realize the imperativeness of personal connection between two individuals who are bounded by an implicit psychological contract to follow the social norms of guanxi (Hill, 2009, p.105). The norms include self-disclosure, dynamic reciprocity, and the long-term equity principle. Establishing connections in relationships would help do a better job in completing an assignment and may be able to bend the rules for a temporary time period. The society of China lacks a strong rule-based legal tradition, thus guanxi and guanxiwang is becoming a necessary and important mechanism for building long-term business relationships and getting business done in China successfully. 2. What does the experience of DMG tell us about the way things work in China? What would likely happen to a business that obeyed all the rules and regulations, rather than trying to find...
