...Discussion Question 1 Dr. Marty Star, Please see the below report and calculations regarding Food and Beverage Services at Southwestern University Football games. 1. Total fixed cost that must be covered at each of the games are: Food service salaries = $20,000 Rental fees = 2,600 x $3 = $7,800 Booth worker wages = 6 x 6 x 5 x $10 = $1,800 Total fixed cost per game = $20,000 + $7,800+ $1,800 = $29,600 2. The portion of the fixed cost allocated to each of the items is shown in the table below: | Percent | Allocated fixed | Item | revenue | cost | Soft drink | 25% | $7,400 | Coffee | 20% | $5,920 | Hot dogs | 20% | $5,920 | Hamburgers | 20% | $5,920 | Popcorn | 10% | $2,960 | Misc. snacks | 5% | $1,480 | | | $29,600 | 3. The break-even points for each item are calculated by computing the allocated fixed cost for each item divided by the profit margin of each item. These are shown in the table below: | Selling | Variable | Profit | Percent | Allocated | Break even | Item | price | cost/ unit | margin | revenue | fixed cost | volume | Soft drink | $2.50 | $0.65 | $1.85 | 25% | $7,400 | 4,000.00 | Coffee | $2.00 | $0.40 | $1.60 | 20% | $5,920 | 3,700.00 | Hot dogs | $2.50 | $1.20 | $1.30 | 20% | $5,920 | 4,553.85 | Hamburgers | $3.00 | $1.40 | $1.60 | 20% | $5,920 | 3,700.00 | Popcorn | $3.00 | $1.90 | $1.10 | 10% | $2,960 | 2,690.91 | 4. ...Question – Chapter 2: Research Problem 2 When Oprah gave away Pontiac G6 sedans to her TV audience, was the value of the cars taxable? On Labor Day weekend in 2006, World Furniture Mall in Plano, Illinois, gave away $275,000 of furniture because the Chicago Bears shut out the Green Bay Packers in the team’s football season opener at Lambeau Field in Green Bay (26-0). Was the free furniture in the form of a discount or rebate taxable, or should the furniture company have handed the customers a Form 1099-MISC? Response After thoroughly researching taxable and nontaxable income, the Pontiac G6 sedans awarded to Oprah’s television audience would have been subject to federal taxation and included in their gross income. The Code of Federal Regulations states the taxable and nontaxable income to be included in one’s federal taxes, the code reads that “if you win a prize in a lucky number drawing, television or radio quiz program, beauty contest, or other event, you must include it in your income” (Prizes and Awards, 2003). The fair market value of all prizes and awards, other than certain scholarships, must be included in gross income (Hoffman p. 4-33). In further research, CNN Money reported that the cars Oprah gave away were indeed subject to federal taxation. Pontiac agreed to pay most of the local charges, including state sales tax and licensing fees, but the fair market value of the car, $28,500, was still subject to be added to the taxpayer’s gross income. The audience members...

...TUI UNIVERSITY Module 2: Case Effective support for information users ITM 301: Principles of Finance Date: 25 January 2011 Effective support for information users In this module I will address the question of “What are the five to seven important strategic things that a company can do to ensure that its Information Technology (IT) users get adequate technical support”. "Our clients know, within minutes, if their customers are unsatisfied with a service call - and they can react accordingly." says Anthony Lacopo, President and CEO for Utopia Image who believes that real-time service is of great value to the merchants. "Great service providers increase loyalty by constantly measuring service quality and adapting their customer assistance service in real time, which is drastically different than counting the number of tickets closed or resolved. Don't confuse customer satisfaction with customer service." The five strategies that I feel are most important to having an effective helpdesk and which will afford user with the most desirable technical support are the areas which I will discuss in more detail below. The first area is to train & empower help desk agents. “Complacency is the biggest challenge we face today,” says Technical Support Manager Drew L. Jaehnig of the Defense Information Systems Agency (www.disa.mil). “Education and an infusion of enthusiasm for change are the best ways to overcome that challenge. Make training a priority and be sure that...

...REFERENCES 7 Question 1: Explain whether or not the fact that Gabby’s surname is Rally gives her the right to use it any way she wishes. Gabby is within her rights to use her surname in any manner she chooses to. This right is backed by the right of publicity law. The right of publicity basically states that an individual has the right to control and profit from the commercial use of his/his name, likeness, and persona (Rich, 2000). However, this matter cannot be easily sided since the owner of Rally Motors has been using the Rally name for his business for the past forty years. The Federal Trademark Dilution Act of 1995 protects a company’s ownership rights to the name, logo, or symbol that identifies its products (Halbert & Ingulli, 2010). As the owner of Rally Motors, Herman Hayes has an economic interest in the business name and a right to protect it from competitors using it for their own benefit that may reflect negatively or cause financial harm to the company. Herman states that he spends three hundred thousand dollars a year in advertisement so people know about Rally Motors. The resources being put into advertising does not clearly state to me that his has sole ownership of the name prohibiting others from using it. So unless Herman successfully filed a trademark application for the exclusive rights to the Rally name, he doesn’t have a legitimate claim to prevent Gabby Rally from using it for her pizza business. Question 2: Explain whether...

Entrepreneurs have a tendency to paint the restaurant business plan with a very optimistic brush, highlighting strengths and camouflaging the risks. We, as business owners, have a vested stake and financial commitment in the success of this restaurant. ...and patients. Its location could also have an influence because if it is in a poor location where the population is small, services may not be in high demand. It is very important that the stakeholders assess the changing values, attitudes, and demographic characteristic to continue providing optimal care. Depending on the nature of the local economy, wage rates, disposable income, unemployment and transportation can all have an economic influence on the development of a clinic. The mission statement should be to continuously improve the quality of health services provided to the communities they serve by creating an environment that promotes physician participation, recognizes the value and contributions of the employees, and strives to meet the unique healthcare needs of our local communities. The goal should be to provide excellent physical, emotional and spiritual care for each patient and their families, build a work environment where each person is valued, respected and has an opportunity for personal and professional growth, strengthen relationships with universities, colleges, other hospitals, agencies and the community. There are several issues that would be valuable to consider in identifying candidate measurement areas and developing performance measures for the hospital outpatient setting, including: The type of care and services delivered in the hospital...

...Human Resource Management (HRM) refers to the policies, practices, and systems that influence employees’ behavior, attitudes, and performance (Noe, et al. 2006). An analysis of work is considered a building block for most HR systems in organizations. Corporate restructuring processes, quality improvement programs, human resource planning, job design, recruitment strategies, training programs, succession planning, and compensation systems are among the other HR activities that are based on work analysis (Bernardin, 2008). Choosing a job that interested me to perform a work analysis was not easy; I really wanted to take this opportunity to put to work the information learned in Chapter 3 and 4 of our class with a job that it always interested me in learning on how they perform their job and what it takes to do the job. I chose a sign language interpreter from my previous job at the National Institutes of Health, Clinical Center. I worked for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Clinical Center for 7 years and felt totally committed in complying with their mission to clinical research. The NIH Clinical Center (CC) is the clinical research hospital for the National Institutes of Health. It's the nation's largest hospital devoted entirely to clinical research. Through clinical research, clinician-investigators translate laboratory discoveries into better treatments, therapies and interventions to improve the nation's health. About 1,500 clinical research studies currently...

...beneficial to society. While beneficial, we believe that, as a society, we must realise the magnitude of our dependence on technology and the ramifications if it were to be taken away from us. This paper argues that humans have formed a detrimental symbiotic relationship with technology in its many forms. This paper will investigate the changes that technology has affected, and show that we are becoming less dependent on ourselves and more detrimentally dependent on our technological accomplishments. 2 Commerce and Reliability The way society does business and commerce is very dependent on the reliability on technology and thus, technology failures will cause markets to stop and bring the whole economy to a halt. Vital banking transactions and services may stop and cause...
