...variations, that human actions are responsible for the rapidness of recent growth, and that we need to start taking action now. What is Global Warming? Global warming is a trend that shows is that the earth is warming. Global average temperature data based on measurements that date back to 1880. “Based on data from the U.S. National Climatic Data Center, the 27 warmest years since 1880 all occurred in the 30 years from 1980 to 2009; the warmest year was 2005 followed closely by 1998” (Turk, J., & Bensel, T.,2011, sect. 7.2). Over the past 50 years, the data on extreme temperatures have shown similar trends of rising temperatures: cold days, cold nights, and frosts occurred less frequently over time, while hot days, hot nights, and heat waves occurred more frequently. The Gases that trap heat in the atmosphere are called greenhouse gases (United States Environmental Protection Agency, n.d.). The main gasses that are emitted are carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), and nitrous oxide (N2O), and fluorinated gases. “The largest source of greenhouse gas emissions in the United States is from burning fossil fuels for electricity, heat, and transportation” (United States Environmental Protection Agency, n.d.). According to data from the EPA, The primary sources of greenhouse gas emissions in the United States from 2010 are: • Electricity...

...concerned with the ultimate healthiness of the food choice, as long as it does not involve killings. “Soy sausages and “Fib Ribs to Tofurky jerky and mock lobster” that PETA is citing as its meat alternatives, do not sound too ingredient-friendly. On the other hand, people choosing vegetarian or meat diet for its health-related advantages are faced with dire straits of scientific burden of proof because health is a long-term domain of high science. ‘Compelling scientific evidence’ appears to be a strong word sequence with almost magical powers, practically an idiom, but, of course, it has to be handled carefully. In many examples of bad or ‘yellow’ journalism, the phrase “British [American, sometimes on gets Chinese for exoticism] scientists have discovered” often validates, or at least serves as modality qualifier for the stories with unchecked or altogether invented facts.’ Trust of popular reader in omnipotent Science is of course a wonderful legacy of the European Enlightenment – the Scotts of the 17th and the French of the 18th centuries. The Enlightenment Project with positivism at its core has put The Science on the Olympus higher than that of the Greek gods. Unprecedented authority of the positivist method of science, naturally, still serves many good...

...BA3 Short-Term Effects of an Oil Spill on Marsh-Edge Fishes and Decapod Crustaceans Summary 1- The article is about the Barataria Bay estuary in the state of Louisiana. The article talks about the short term effects of an oil spill in the estuary. The article then goes on to explain how out of all the organisms located in the estuary fish were the most mobile and left the area when the spill occurred. Decapods and crustaceans on the other hand are far less mobile and were left behind to endure the spill. The authors then explain how overall the ecosystem recovered relatively fast. The article then dives into how louisiana handles over fifteen percent of all the oil going into the United States. The article goes further and explains that Louisiana is home to twenty six percent of the united states fisheries which is dominated mostly by crustaceans. The authors then explain that since the oil and fisherie industries operate in the same space it damages the organisms that the fisherie thrives off of. In this particular passage the author explains that the harm is done when these organisms either get smothered in the oil or accidentally ingest it. This source is...

...socialist multi-millionaire. Today, the idea is still going strong, for no good reason. Climate change is not catastrophic so there is no need to fret over it. The first reason is that many of the numbers that climate change supporters tell you are exaggerated. Secondly, there is so much information saying that climate change is not real that it can not be ignored. My first reason against climate change is that a great amount of “data” about climate change is exaggerated or flat-out made up. For example, according to globalclimatescam.com it claims that in reality most scientists do not agree with artificial catastrophic climate change. “ 75 scientists said they believe in global warming on the other hand over 31,000 scientists have signed a petition saying they do not believe in catastrophic manmade global warming.” You have probably heard of the 99% of scientists believe in global warming, but this proves that the opposite is true. Also, a lot of scientists say that warmer weather causes more carbon dioxide causing warmer weather. But really, using a summary of answersingenesis.org a hotter climate will create more evaporation, making more clouds,...

...The Historicity of Adam A hotly debated topic among evolutionists, creation scientists, and evangelicals is the historicity of Adam. These people’s views can be summarized into four basic positions [1]. The most liberal view, evolutionary creationism, holds that there was no historical Adam. This view has been expounded upon by Denis Lamoureux, a well-known professor who has lectured widely on the topic of evolutionary creationism. Evolutionary creationism posits that God used evolution to create man and used ancient views of science to impart specific inerrant truths [2]. This idea of using ancient science to give truth is called the “Message-Incident Principle” [3]. The second position is the archetypal view. Those who hold this view, such as John Walton, an influential scholar who has written several books on the topic, believe that Adam was a real man, but was used biblically as an archetype, or a representation of humanity as a whole. According to this view, Adam may or may not have been the father of mankind, and that the Bible should not be used as an argument against scientific evidence about human origins [4]. The third position, old-earth creationism, suggests that Adam was the real “[headwater] of humankind” but argues that the Bible does not limit the timeline of history to a young-earth perspective. This view has been vocally promoted by a seminary professor named C. John Collins, who has also written a famous book on the subject entitled Did Adam and Eve Really...

...URL: http://oceanexplorer.noaa.gov/explorations/07philippines/welcome.html Title: Exploring the Inner Space of the Celebes Sea 2007 Date: September 27 – October 16, 2007 Mission Summary: The 2007 mission to explore the Inner Space of the Celebes Sea became an exclusive opportunity to connect explorers and scientists from America and several Philippines universities and research agencies south of the Philippines Islands in search of fishes, jellyfish, squids, and shrimp that live in the dark deep waters. The Celebes Sea was picked for the mission because this sea is located just north of equator and is called the center of the most biologically diverse area of the world’s ocean. It is 5,000 meters deep but is surrounded by much shallower ocean waters, and as a result these waters became the home for species living in isolation from other surrounding waters, and waiting to be discovered using new exploration tools. A ship Hydrographer Presbitero designed only for 40 people, gathered sixty-one, including 28 scientists and researchers. They worked together for almost two weeks to collect samples, videos, images, and data to increase our understanding of the biological composition and the nature of the deep mid-water environment of the Celebes Sea. Scientists wanted to compare the samples and all information with what is known about other deep-sea regions around the world. The expedition has begun in the Port of Manila and then continued south through the Sulu Sea...

...positive characteristic of a theory. 8. Discuss various components for a concept of humanity. 9. Define reliability and validity and explain why both concepts are important in personality research. Summary Outline I. Overview of Personality Theory From the investigations of Freud during the last decade of the 19th century until the present time, a number of personality theorists have (1) made controlled observations of human behavior and (2) speculated on the meaning of those observations. Differences in the theories of these men and women are due to more than differences in terminology. They stem from differences on basic issues concerning the nature of humanity. II. What Is Personality? The term personality comes from the Latin word persona, meaning the mask people wear or the role they play in life. However, most psychologists use the term to refer to much more than the face or facade people show to others. Personality can be defined as a pattern of relatively permanent traits and unique characteristics that give both consistency and individuality to human behavior III. What is a Theory? The term theory is often used quite loosely and incorrectly to imply something other than a useful scientific concept. Theories are used by scientists to...
