History of women in art Throughout the centuries, women around the world have engaged in artwork as either creators or innovators of various forms of artistic expressions. They have contributed significantly as art historians hence they have been integral to the institution of art in the society. Despite their evident contributions in the art world, women artists have encountered opposition especially in the ancient times. It is indisputable that women artists have been under represented in major art collections in previous eras; otherwise some women would have gained recognition as Picasso. According to Chadwick (6), many women have contributed to visual culture, but their efforts have been neglected. Women artists have been perceived as marginal because of their gender. Chadwick (15) believes that women…show more content… However, this does not mean that women have been accorded the opportunity to rule the society in the modern times. While majority of the modern societies have treated women just as their male counterparts, there are some societies that are still dominated by male in various respects. As Tate (12) explores, women in the patriarchy societies were not allowed to discuss sex, religion, politics and power. In his book, Voices of the Sacred Feminine, Tate voices the rights of women as a way of reshaping the world. Women play a significant role in the modern societies. They are good leaders who can engage in politics in appropriate way (Tate 32).
Feminism and Discontents For a long time, women have been neglected because of their nature. Men have been considered more superior than female hence they have been accorded more opportunities more than women. In the political sector, women have been under represented. However, gone are the days when women can sit back and watch their male engage in all superior jobs
