...Failures in the Media During Columbine Shooting Lauren Barber History of U.S. Mass Media Professor Todd Schack November 10, 2009 Judgment Day April 20, 1999 marks the day of one of the bloodiest and most horrific school shootings in American history. Until the 2007 shooting at Virginia Technical Institute, it was the worst school shooting to date. On this day, two seniors, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, entered Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado and went on a killing spree for approximately 49 minutes, leaving 24 injured and 15 dead, including themselves. The two students had been planning this attack on the school for over a year. Had their plan gone accordingly, the carnage would have been far more severe. The boys skipped their first period that day, arriving just before the lunch hour dressed in black trench coats carrying “several CO2 bombs, one semi-automatic 9mm handgun, a 9mm carbine rifle, a sawed-off 12-gauge shotgun, and a sawed-off 12-gauge pump shotgun” (“Columbine”). They were also each carrying a duffel bag containing a twenty-pound propane bomb (“Columbine”). They placed a bomb in the cafeteria, set to explode at 11:17 a.m., the time when the most students would be in one concentrated area. The homemade bomb was strategically placed in the cafeteria to blow the ceiling of the room out, bringing the library crashing down upon explosion, killing another room full of students and faculty simultaneously. The two boys would...

...world will come to an end, but of that day no man can predict. Of the many apocalypse predictions, a few stick out more than others. One being the Mayan Apocalypse of 2012, or December 21, 2012. The name gives off the impression that the Mayans were the people to predict the world ending on this day, but it was not actually them. In fact, the Mayan never actually predicted an end to the world. The Mayan Apocalypse was simply a misunderstanding between the Mayan and the rest of the world. The Mayans believed that this world was not the first world created,...

...falls on society for the creation of monsters since society is responsible for creating the rules and standards in the first place. In literature, and the modern day, it is the creation and expression of superficial standards that creates monsters. In the novel Frankenstein, by Mary Shelley, Frankenstein attempts to create a man but the man that he creates turns out to be hideous in appearance. The only differences between the man created by Frankenstein and a man created in the typical sense of birth are (1) the manner by which the men are brought into the world, and (2) the...

...Practice Situational Judgement Test Answers and Candidate Guidance Booklet June 2011 AssessmentDay Practice Aptitude Tests Practice Situational Judgement Test Practice Situational Judgement Test This is an example situational judgement test (SJT) which will allow you to become familiar with this format of test. SJTs are commonly used by employers as part of their selection process. If you have been invited to sit a SJT this simply means the employer is trying to establish how you would potentially behave in different situations. The fictional situations you will face are usually designed by the employer to simulate the kind of decision-making you might be faced with during your employment with them. Employers will have a set of responses which reflects how their ideal candidate would respond. Your responses can be compared against their model responses to help the employer decide if you are a good fit within their organisation. But remember this test is just one contributing factor to a rounded selection process; employers will never use the results from one test in isolation, so don't worry if you feel you haven't done well. There is no time limit to this test however your first answers are usually the most accurate, so try not to spend too long thinking about each one. There are four different scenarios to this test and each scenario contains four questions. Scenario 1: Most and Least Likely to Perform Scenario 2: Ranked Responses Scenario 3: Most and Least Effective...

...Shlensky v. Wrigley 95 Ill.App. 268, 237 N.E.2d 776 (Ill.App. 1 Dist. 1968) Facts William Shlensky (plaintiff) was a minority shareholder of the Chicago Cubs baseball team. Shlensky brought derivative suit against major shareholders, owner, and corporation for negligence and mismanagement. Major shareholder and president, Phillip Wrigley (defendant), owned about eighty percent of shares. Shlensky called for the installation of lights at Wrigley Field so night games could be scheduled because, his claim, that all other major league teams have already done so. Pursuant to Shlensky, the Cubs have not installed lights due to Wrigley’s claim that baseball should be played during the day as it is a daytime sport. Issue The issue is whether...

...Edwin Rolfe and Lester Fuller once said, “Never judge a book by its cover.” This means you should not prejudge the worth or value of something or someone by it their outward appearance alone. It seems modern day, many people judges a person by their appearance or by their actions in first sight which meaning they have never gotten to know that person that they are judging. This causes the judgement in a person spread out to others and the judgement half of the time are not even right. In the novel To Kill a Mockingbird, judging was shown in many different situations. In society today, people can based on their judgement automatically assuming that person’s personality and character in that certain way on how they think that person is. In the novel Scout Finch, her brother Jem Finch,...

...Deobandi and Alh-e-Hadith voters, the softer religious variant, the Barelvis, could be given a cause to rally around the PML-Q-PPP combine. This primarily explains the overflowing enthusiasm of the Q leadership to champion the cause of the Long March Declaration, whose real worth is less than the paper it is typed on. The international backing to this illusory tale of fictional revolution of the people, by the people and for the people, had to be there because a ‘softer mullah’ holds irresistible charm for the policy of promoting (or inserting) winning moderates in the world of Islam. So, it came to be — the four-day long saga, with its dazzling contradictions and exceptional media hype. In the beginning, even the most educated among us thought it to be real: such is the desperation to find an instant solution to our wide-ranging problems. They thought the day of final judgement is finally upon this terrible system of pelf-based on plunder, not realising that the system is so well-entrenched that no individual — certainly not Dr Qadri — shall...

...them are not fated to reach their own country but would die in another man's land. Nevertheless, the land on which they sacrifice their lives for a great and common cause, gets to be their home while the land that was their home now ceases to be the same. Their great action would bring its own reward though they would not know of it 'until the judgement after death.' Another salient theme of the poem is the doctrine of Karma. Through the selfless action of the Indian soldier and his likes in Africa, the philosophy of the Bhagavad-Gita is echoed that - "To action alone has thou a right and never at all to its fruits; let not the fruits of actions be thy motive; neither let there be in thee any attachment to inaction". T.S. Eliot says in the last line of the third stanza that wherever he dies bravely that soil is his. It occurs to the poet that the soldiers of different countries fighting for a common objective may not know the outcome of their strivings. Nevertheless, this possibility does not diminish the worth of their sacrifice. They become immortal as they are glorified in the memory of their people through their sublime act. The judgement after death shows the poet's preoccupation...
