Under the control of the Shah there was some control, however most people didn't like his amoral methods. While his methods were inhumane he had the country running without too much chaos. Due to the Shah's departure there was mayhem which caused a lot of confusion through the lives of civilians. The "Cultural Revolution" took away freedom from basically everyone and anything that was "fun" is restricted. Whenever someone takes away your rights, it is necessary for you fight back.
