Compare and Contrast Electronic music is getting closer and closer to becoming mainstream everyday, but what does it take to become famous, in this up and coming genre? From the 90’s till present day other then a funky beat you need a gimmick to reach super stardom that’s exactly what Deadmau5 and daft punk both have, and they are legends in Electronic music partly because of it.
Joel Zimmerman Aka Deadmau5 pronounced (dead mouse) is a progressive house/ trance producer from Canada. Starting his career in 2006 that is famous not only for his music, but the mouse helmet he wears while preforming.
Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter make up the electronic duo Daft Punk from France. They produce House music or by their definition “robot rock” and became popular in the late 90’s. They are also known for wearing helmets designed to make them look like robots.
They both share a common gimmick wearing their helmets which I find to be their alter egos. When Joel Zimmerman puts on that mouse head he transforms into Deadmau5 along with Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter once they have their robot costume on they have become Daft Punk. Its what their fans identify them by its their gimmick that people can slap on anything from tee shirts to coffee mugs. It makes them more recognizable and catches people’s attention. Wouldn’t you be more curious if you saw a guy DJing music in a mouse head or a robot costume?
Not only do their costumes set them apart from everyone else. But they both have an amazing stage set up that has never been seen before. Deadmau5 has this LED cube that he displays images and designs all over. He sits in the cube with his head popping out of the top while preforming. Not only does the cube light up, but also does the face of his mouse helmet the designs move up from his cube to his mask and also displays its own Led images. Daft punks stage set up is this huge pyramid led stage that lights up also displaying various designs and they sit in the vary middle of the pyramid while preforming.
The final thing that sets Daft punk and Deadmau5 apart from the rest is their unique sound to their music, which is hard to come by in electronic music. They have both been nominated for Grammy’s for their music, but only daft punk has won a Grammy.
Everything that Deadmau5 and Daft punk have to offer makes them icons in Electronic music, but the Gimmick’s made people first interested. Which has shown to work from the 90’s when Daft Punk was in their hay day till present day.
