...Reaction Paper: Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL) Bangsamoro came from the words: Bansang Moro. I have watched an interview (The Bottomline with Boy Abunda) of ANAK Mindanao Party List Representative Sitti Djalia Turabin-Hataman (wife of ARMM Governor) - she said that even before the Spanish and American colonizers came to the Philippines they are a "a nation" on their own. They are even entering "Treaties" with other countries without the knowledge or permission of the Philippine Government. That somehow explains to us why the Moros (Muslim inhabitants of the Philippines) in our country are in a struggle to retain the government of their own. Being a Christian I can not fully understand their culture and beliefs, as well as the the Central Government MAY not- that is why the Aquino government is convinced that we must let them govern their own land and people with respect to that religious beliefs and culture. It is always practical to elect a leader that knows his constituents very well - and most of the times, among them; like in the Muslim territory, a natural born Moro. The Bangsamoro Basic Law will replace and abolish the Autonomous Region Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) Organic Act. BBL is an enhanced version of the existing ARMM. The said Law's primary aim is to promote long-term peace and ensure development and progress in theBangsamoro region and to secure their identity being Moros. This road to peace process took us seventeen years(17) to realize. According to former DILG secretary...

...you’ve known, maybe someone dear to you, ever lost a limb? Then you may have heard of stem cell research. Embryonic stem cells have the amazing ability to theoretically grow back any body part. They have the potential to morph into any of the 220 cell types found in the body (Robinson 1). It has the restoration power capable of reestablishing functions of the body as well, such as eyesight. The drawback to stem cell research is that it requires baby fetuses to acquire the material. Stem cells differ from other cells in the body, as they are capable of dividing and rebuilding themselves for long durations of time. This is unlike muscle cells, blood cells, or nerve cells. They are not able to replicate themselves, while stem cells can do it many times. This means that if stem cells are kept in a laboratory over a long period of time, they can yield many other stem cells. Another property of stem cells is that they are unspecialized, meaning that they do not help with anything in the body. For example, they are not able to help the heart pump blood in the body. However, stem cells can become heart muscle cells and blood cells, which could do that function. A third property of stem cells is that they become specialized cells. This is called differentiation, when the stem cell morphs into a cell that will have a specific function in the body (Robinson 1). In the last five years, China has increased its research funding greatly in the field of stem cell research. They have been focusing...

The abstract is typically a short summary of the contents of the document.] | It can be easily argued that we are currently living in a culture of violence. As we watch, read or listen to the news; daily incidents of individuals becoming victims of gun violence trumps the headlines. With tragic incidents such as the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre in Newtown, Connecticut that occurred in December of 2012, as well as the mass shooting in Aurora, Colorado in July of 2012 occurring less than six months away from each other, prompted debate on a national level regarding the importance of gun control and mental illness. Other highly publicized mass shootings, such as the one that occurred in Tucson, Arizona in January of 2011, involving former US Representative Gabrielle Giffords and the mass shooting at Virginia Tech, along with the two events mentioned above, “all shared two common characteristics: all four shooters were mentally ill, and all four used guns with large capacity magazines, allowing them to fire multiple rounds of ammunition without reloading (Barry, 2013).” As the Second Amendment guarantees an individual’s right to bear arms, the issue at hand is: how can the government...

...An Open Letter from Kenneth Rogoff, International Monetary Fund, to Joseph Stiglitz, Author of Globalization and Its Discontents 2 July 2002 At the outset, I would like to stress that it has been a pleasure working closely with my World Bank colleagues—particularly my counterpart, Chief Economist Nick Stern—during my first year at the IMF. We regularly cross 19th Street to exchange ideas on research, policy, and life. The relations between our two institutions are excellent—this is not at issue. Of course, to that effect, I think it is also important, before I begin, for me to quash rumors about the demolition of the former PEPCO building that stood right next to the IMF until a few days ago. No, it's absolutely not true that this was caused by a loose cannon planted within the World Bank. Dear Joe: Like you, I came to my position in Washington from the cloisters of a tenured position at a topranking American University. Like you, I came because I care. Unlike you, I am humbled by the World Bank and IMF staff I meet each day. I meet people who are deeply committed to bringing growth to the developing world and to alleviating poverty. I meet superb professionals who regularly work 80-hour weeks, who endure long separations from their families. Fund staff have been shot at in Bosnia, slaved for weeks without heat in the brutal Tajikistan winter, and have contracted deadly tropical diseases in Africa. These people are bright, energetic, and imaginative. Their dedication humbles...

... The year 1948 was an essential period of time for the Czechoslovak history and its future. From the foundation of Czechoslovakia in 1918, Czechoslovakia was still under worldwide influence of world powers such as Soviet Union, United Kingdom or United States. In order to answer the question, “Which of the external factors was most important in the Communist take over of Czechoslovakia in 1948?” Firstly I wanted to focus my essay only on how were the Communist reliable of takeover Czechoslovakia in 1948. After investigation it was discovered that the Czechoslovak history from year 1948 was mostly affected only by the external factors. A number of secondary sources are used including textbooks and biographies; both online and print, one of the secondary source was in Czech language. The scope of the investigation is focused on years from 1938 to the final takeover in 1948. Several external examples are used, why external factors were mostly important in Communist take over. Two very significant important factors what happened were the conference in Yalta, and the Czechoslovak-Soviet Treaty of Alliance signed by Czechoslovak president Edvard Benes, but after investigation each of mentioned external factors are important for various reasons. Sources about Czechoslovak history from 1938 to 1948 are mostly used, because the essay is mostly focused on this period. In conclusion of the research paper it will argue that because of external serious consequences the Czechoslovak takeover...

...AMERICAN PAULOWNIA ASSOCIATION VOL. 15 NO. 2 SEPTEMBER 2006 PAULOWNIA IS NATIVE TO NORTH AMERICA "A Record of Paulownia in the Tertiary of North America" American Journal of Botany 48(2); 175-179 Illus. 1961 Charles J. Smiley Macalester College; St. Paul, Minnesota Reviewed by Ralph Donaldson First, the writer is incompetent as a reviewer of a juried paper on paleobotany in a scientific journal. He is neither paleontologist nor botanist. He is a farmer. The language of the paper being reviewed is alien to him. This attempt is to extract some bits of information that may be of use to growers, promoters, and protectors of Paulownia. First, some definitions. Pre-history has been divided into periods for convenience of study. Often the divisions used correspond to geologic changes-changes being a relative term since many of the "changes" occurred over many millions of years. There have been several such schemes of dividing up the past. As a matter of fact, the Tertiary Period referred to in this 1961 article is part of an obsolete scheme. The Tertiary Period in this article went from about 66 million years ago to about 26 million years ago. Fossils attributed to this time are found in rock strata that are associated with geologic events that can be tied to this period of pre-history. Fossils themselves are rocks; rocks whose formation was influenced by the remains of living matter that was present during their formation. Animal bones buried under sediment eventually-over...

Students who are taking up Bachelor of Science in Information Technology are given the chance to undergo the so called On-the-Job Training to be able to apply the knowledge they acquired from school to their respective chosen agencies. It is the beginning of the greatest educational experience a BSIT student would encounter. It is one way of developing their sense of responsibility upon performing the given task by their supervisors and the rest of the office staff. It is also the time for a BSIT student to develop the desirable traits of a future office worker. Thus, a BSIT student has the opportunity to develop attitudes, skills and understanding which is necessary in the field of information technology particularly in the IT/ computer-related workplaces as IT professionals. As BSIT students, the On-the-Job Training provides a background of what is really going-on in a certain office. On-the-Job Training provides the opportunity in promoting worthy values and developing strong moral character among other people in the community. It is one of the factors that are helpful to the students in enriching and enhancing their knowledge learned at school.
