Nik and alex are aware of business abroad can be complex and challenging. Many businesses failed because incompetence management team, ineffective advertisement and failure to familiarize themselves with the residents of the Island. Nik is cognizant of gathering the right type of date and information translate to knowledge and power

Nik informs Alex of a skill he acquired during his studies called starbursting, it focuses on a specific topic and radiates outward. Nik and alex apply the starbursting technique in order to start the organizing process, human Relations and Ethics goals for the new operations plant, we have identified the following (Kirby, Goodpaster 2007).

We aspire to be the most admired and valuable company in the world. Our goal is to enrich our customers' personal lives and to make their businesses more successful by bringing to market exciting and useful services, building shareowner value in the process (ATT 2006).

The island of kava is known for its coffee farms and child labor. This island does not have child labor laws and a horrible educational system. The government and other local influential business are interested in having our company expand into their country. One of the main reasons for the govenment seek out our company is for our reputation as a successful and strong company. Out company gives back a percentage of our profit to the local community for education reducing child labor, building schools. Our company pays the staff higher wages with a strict understanding that the children of our employees will not be working in our company until they have a high school diploma or equivalent

The government has agreed to subsidize some of the cost of building our plant in their country and to deal with the natural disasters we have designed the building with underground shelters that double as the cafeteria.

Since we already have a business structure we have decided to make some minor adjustments to the business plan.

We have taken the mission statement of our company and we are bring new meaning to it we have identified key individuals from all the departments of our business that have a history launching a new division of the company, have international relations experience, can speak multiple languages specifically the home language of kava. We have obtained the services of an international liaison linguist to assist in communicating with the indigent local people and to teach the non-local personnel to acclimate to their new environment.

Create a government liaison to work with the local government to ensure we maintain great communication between the organization and local government officials

The first team we have reached out to is Human resources we need to create a code of ethics that is inline with our mission statement and the culture, customs and believes of kava. HR will be handling all procedures, policies, and benefits. With in the HR department, we have created a subdivision to address the local disaster threats. With in this division we will address all issues from building codes to natural disasters and local heath conditions. The department will have an emergency plan and will conduct periodical emergency testing and response.

The second team is the finance team they will manage our expenses during our construction ensuring we stay within our budget, payroll, purchasing, accounting, local taxes, and USA import taxes. This department will be establishing a strong relation with local suppliers to help with the growth of the local economy. The company will have an incentive program with the local suppliers to encourage and promote a healthy and positive business relationship.

The third team is being lead by the international liaison and the purpose of this team is to build team moral quickly and get the non-local staff accustom to Kava. The liaison is in charge of local events within the community this will help bring the community and the staff closer together. The liaison will also conduct tours of the island so the non-native personnel is aware of the safe areas to go to with in the island and the high hazardous risk areas and bulletins will be going out on a daily basis updating the team of new hot zones.

The fourth team is the compliance section. This team will focus on the ethics of the company. The company realizes there are many factors surrounding this new venture and in order to be successful we need a code of ethics that encompassed the local way of life, the local laws and regulations and our current business practices.

The fifth team is the finance team to assist with the financial impact for the proposed project. This team is assign with the task of determining all operational cost, local resources vs. import of resources in to Kava. The evaluation of all government taxation and fees, cost of personnel, and length of time for the return on investment. The Finance team will cover the impact to the Company’s reputation, projected year over year revenue, and rate of penetration.

Nik and Alex are using a strategy called Forming, Storming, Norming and Performing model of group development (Tuckerman 1965).

Nik and Alex have collaborated in the decision-making steps that will enhance communication, the critical techniques they will be implementing are framing the problem. Framing the problem has three steps one is identifying the problem the second one is defining the criteria, goals, and objectives; the third is evaluating the effects of the problems.

Identifying the problem consists of and action plan. The action plan is a blueprint that outlines the steps needed to accomplish the tasks. During the identifying of the problem one needs to create short-term goals and long-term goals. Short-term goals are items that need immediate attention and action to assist with the overall action plan. It may consist of simple relationship building, getting to know the community and learning of the culture of Kava. Long-term goals consist of developing charts, to systematically analyze projects and weighing options involving the individual vested which involve the environmental issues, crime issues, government issues, educational issues, natural disasters and finance issues.

The forward thinking part of Nik and Alex job is to give clear advice as to whether Nik and Alex creating plans that will implement the boards strategy and achieve their financial goals (Langdon 2001).

Nik and Alex evaluated the impact and created a cost and benefits analyzes to provide to the board the pros and cons of the project. Nik and Alex have set specific time period to update the key stakeholder on the progress of the proposed project. The reasons for the updates are to ensure continued buy-in of the project and address any concerns that may arise due to unforeseen obstacles and or delays.

Nik and Alex started the journey of the project in their minds as stated above through Starburting. Starbursting is part of creative thinking and most projects start with an idea that is expanded until to become real. The first focus was the organizational process and some of the external factors of it. The company has a great opportunity to make and impact in the community and to increase the bottom line. By creating a liaison position for our company to help establish a great relationship with the government and the local vendors it will ensure the government continues to subsidize the cost of this new venture. It also will help build a relationship with the local vendors so both companies benefit from the new relationship. The liaison will also focus on the community so the company can start giving back through educational, and employee programs. The company already has similar program in the states so we are just modifying it to fit the new environment one of the changes is for every pound of coffee sold in the stated that was harvested in KAVA a percent of the profit will be given back to the community to create school in the areas where there are no schools the employees will also have the opportunity to return back to school and finish there middle and high school, diploma. The company will establish a college tuition reimbursement for those employees who want to continue their higher education and once they have their degree. They will be able to apply for our university program which is a two program the employee will be place in three different positions through out the two years along with attending internal classes. The classes are specific to the positions and will give the employee the tools needed to be successful in each of the three positions. Once the training is over if the employee has successfully completed the program the employee will be made an offer as long as there is an opening. The training program has several requirements and is limited to a specific amount of employees every two years. The program has two key benefits one is promoting growth with in the company and two the community benefits by having more educated adults that can get involve in the decision making process of their community. We took existing ideas from our company and modified it to fit the new environment, creating a new program that involves the government, the community, the employees and the company.

We used a similar approach to the Human resource part of the planning. Since we are a well-known reputable company instead of reinventing the wheel we just modified the existing policies and procedures and tailored it to the local governments laws and regulation, cultural differences, and social acceptances.

The Ethic part took more of a scientific approach Nik and Alex have to research the local community, understand the local culture, and social acceptances. Nik and Alex know, different parts of the world have different perspective on ethic and values and in some cases the ethics and values are so dramatically different it can cause business to fail due to the lack of understanding. The implementation of a liaison will help address most of the research needed to formulate a code of ethics.

In additional to all the decision-making steps Nik and Alex outlined a preliminary presentation to deliver to Chris. The presentation will include the Return on investment, revenue, cost of building and operations, Rate of penetration and reputation. Within the presentation it will address the disaster threats,how it will affect the business and how the structure has been designed to hold up against all of them. It will also highlight the positive impact to the local economy and community along with creating new business partners.
