The Conference of Birds

...THE CONFERENCE OF THE BIRDS BY FARID UD-DIN ATTAR The Conference Of The Birds By Farid Ud-Din Attar. This web edition created and published by Global Grey 2013. GLOBAL GREY NOTHING BUT E-BOOKS TABLE OF CONTENTS PART I. THE PARLIAMENT OF THE BIRDS PART II. ON, TO THE CITY OF GOD PART III.THROUGH THE SEVEN VALLEYS PART IV.RECEPTION AT THE ROYAL COURT 1 The Conference Of The Birds By Farid Ud-Din Attar PART I. THE PARLIAMENT OF THE BIRDS THE PARLIAMENT OF THE BIRDS Once upon a time, in the dim old days, all the birds of the world assembled in solemn conclave to consider a momentous question. Ever since the dawn of Creation the inhabitants of every city had had a king or leader, called Shahryar, or the friend of the city, but these feathered souls had no king to befriend them. Theirs was an army without a general—a position most precarious. How could they be successful in the battle of life without a leader to guide the weakwinged party through the perils of earthly existence? Many an eloquent speaker addressed the assembly, deploring their helpless plight in plaintive terms, bringing tears to the eyes of thetiny ones, and it was unanimously agreed that it was highly desirable, nay, absolutely necessary, that they should place themselves without delay under the protection of a king. At this stage, full of fervour, leapt forward the Hoopoe (Hud-hud) renowned in the Muslim scriptures for the part she had played as King Solomon’s trusted...

Analysis of "The Ballad of East and West"

...Maja Strzelczyk, 4KMT2 Topic: Analyse and interpret the passage below, backing up your reading of these lines with apt cultural examples, relating, too, to other literary texts: OH, East is East, and West is West, and never the twain shall meet, Till Earth and Sky stand presently at God’s great Judgment Seat; But there is neither East nor West, Border, nor Breed, nor Birth, When two strong men stand face to face, tho’ they come from the ends of the earth! There is quite possibly no greater reason for artists' trepidation and anxiety than being misunderstood and misinterpreted. Yet, it is still a common occurrence, even in modern times. First published in 1889, Rudyard Kipling's famous and extremely complex poem “The Ballad of East and West”, and more specifically its four opening lines, is one of the works that have been freely quoted and, probably to Kipling's great disappointment, very often misquoted, therefore misinterpreted in the opposite sense of Kipling's intentions, creating a spurious and misguided reputation of its author. The four lines opening Rudyard Kipling's poem, “The Ballad of East and West,” are a reflection on the topic of equality and possibility of mutual understanding and respect of polar opposites. Let us break down the quatrain into two parts. The first two lines imply that the author believes in absolute contrariety of East and West. They suggest that there is no possible way of reconciliation of the two, that seemingly they are like day...

...Literature Search For our project Literature search is one of the key exploratory studies that we conducted, in fact literature search was the very initial study that we began our project with. The website that turned out to be most helpful as far as gathering information of Nestle was concerned was www.nestle.com.pk FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE (DEC03-DEC07): FY07 was a good year for NPL as its top line reached a new landmark of PKR 28 billion following an excellent growth of 28% compared to FY06. Primary contribution came from its pillar product categories, milks, baby food and juices. Fresh milk volume grew by 29% over the same period last year; however, this was still not sufficient to meet production requirements for the year. The increasing sales trend (CAGR of 28% during FY03-FY07) is primarily attributed to continued focus on sales and marketing efforts, innovative strategies and a sound distribution network. This robust growth in sales translated into a solid increasing operating profit of Rs 3.53 billion, an increase of 33%. However, this primarily relates to higher fixed cost absorption from inventory that led to lower profitability in FY'06. In addition, efforts in 2007 include a favorable movement in sales mix and rigorous fixed cost control. The literature search helped us in gathering data regarding the competitors. On the web we found out who are the competitors of nestle in its juices line and more precisely in its orange juice. Literature search revealed...

General Studies

...The History of Kit Kat   This product was developed as a four-finger wafer crisp, initially launched in London and the South East in September 1935 as 'Rowntree’s Chocolate Crisp' and re-named two years later as KitKat Chocolate Crisp. It became KitKat after the Second World War. No one is sure where the name KitKat came from but it’s thought the famous KitKat Club of the 1920s had some influence. Within two years of launch, KitKat was established as Rowntree’s leading product, a position that it has maintained ever since. During the war, KitKat was portrayed as a valuable wartime food and advertising described the brand as “What active people need”. KitKat 4 Finger For most of its life, KitKat has appeared in a red and white wrapper. It did, however, change to a blue wrapper in 1945, when it was produced with a plain chocolate covering due to shortages of milk after the war. This blue livery was withdrawn in 1947 when the standard milk chocolate KitKat was reintroduced. KitKat was first advertised on TV back in 1957 and had its first colour advert in 1967. Famous adverts include the ‘Dancing Panda’ in 1987 and the ‘Have a Break’ adverts in the 90’s. KitKat is produced at the Nestlé Rowntree Factory and in 2004 a massive 39,000 tonnes of KitKat were sold - that's 107 tonnes a day! Over the years KitKat 4 Finger has appeared in Orange and Mint variants and in 2004 we released a Lemon + Yogurt flavour, a Halloween variant, Blood Orange, and Lime flavoured KitKat...

Nestle Kitkat

...Introduction Kit Kat was launched in 1937. Since then, it has consistently been one of the best selling chocolate bars on the market and has acquired an instantly recognizable brand name and identity. In 1997, British sales of Kit Kat amounted to some £227 million, which made it easily the most popular confectionery product on the market. Forty four Kit Kats are consumed every second in the UK! The UK confectionery market is worth over £5 billion per annum and is highly competitive. It continues to be dominated by large, well-established names - highlighting the importance to firms of creating brand identities for their products. Once created, however, a brand name needs constant maintenance. Kit Kat’s ability to remain a brand leader over sixty years is no accident. The long term maintenance of a brand name requires continuous monitoring and investment. Brand image must be seen as a dynamic, not a static factor; the same consumer perceptions that create brand loyalty can also turn against a product that fails to adjust and adapt to changing attitudes. This study focuses on Nestlé’s Kit Kat and the long term brand name maintenance strategies which have sustained Kit Kat’s position as a market leader for over sixty years. The history of Kit Kat emphasizes the importance of successfully managed brand names to the company that owns them. Nestlé was prepared to pay a record price to acquire Rowntree in 1988 because of the prestigious brands in Rowntree’s product portfolio. Kit Kat was an important...
