Thank you for allowing my questions to be recognized this week. I found this subject very interesting and I would like to elaborate my thoughts as well.
I believe that when we remember more of the bad times than the good times in our lives, it is because our emotions influence how we process our memories. Many times people recall significant emotional events in their lives, such as their wedding day, the birth of their children and they are usually pretty confident about how well they remember these events, and with every detail.
However, whether our confidence is debatable or not seems to be the bigger picture. Our memories are usually prone to distort memories over time, but researcher; E. Kensinger, (Sep 5, 2007) has found that there is evidence that suggest that our emotional memories are more resistant to the decay processes that wear away at all memories with time. It seems to be possible that there is something in our memories that are distinctive about how we remember our emotional experiences. My negative events seem to wedged out my positive memories most of the time. However, not all the time, but my negative events tend to be remembered in a more accurate fashion than any positive event I ever had. I believe that my negative memories are remembered in a more accurate way than my positive events. Even though I might not remember every detail about my bad event, seems as though the details I remember are about the negative events that are more accurate. This can get very mystifying to say the least…
