Our world has changed a lot since the 1800’s mainly because of computers. They’ve revolutionized our world to where you can simply look up what you want instead of scouring the library for your needed material. Laptops seem to have everything, nothing really bad about them. Except distractions. Some people think that laptops are great and cause no real distraction. But most think that laptops are bad because of all the access people have, and how it can be used. While technology does have its benefits, in the classroom laptops are harming students.
Computers are a distraction. In the article “Computers Use Distracting” is shows a quote,” students are often distracted by whatever they’re doing on the computer.” Often times when your doing schoolwork online, you always tend to get dragged into the distraction that are much more frequent in the newer technology. In the article “Attention, Students; Put Your Laptops Away”. A quote says,” The students taking longhand notes in our studies were forced to be more selective- because you can’t write as fast as you can type.” This quote tells how The reason behind forgetting your notes while typing is because typing is limited, and not as creative as writing. Handwriting is different to every person, but typing you have the exact same font with no fluctuation of the letters then there isn’t any real creativity in the writing, making it a lot harder to remember. Plus, you can type much faster on a keyboard than writing on paper; thus, you get more done and can copy word for word. When writing you should do it your own way and not copying everything as they are written. Making laptops not only a distraction, but a hard way to

Cell Phones in School

...Phones are A Distraction We should not bring cell phones to school. My reasoning behind this is because cell phones are an additional distraction in the classroom. With many cell phones capable of not only calling others, but also texting, playing games, surfing the web, and taking pictures a cell phone contains many functions to get distracted with. We should bring cell phones to school. We should bring cell phones to school. Cell phones allow teachers to communicate with their students faster through email. Student should phone during class One thing is that, that for the kids who sometimes write slower than others can record their class session and use it at home not all kids are fast enough to write as fast as they might think or teachers may think and if it's sloppy when they get home and forget and look at their notes they might think it's not for homework and if kids play games in school so what if it sharpens their mind and makes them more aware of things instead of sleeping in class. They can listen to the teachers at home too. Phones should not be allowed in class. They will just lower your grade point average, and there are some students who would use them to cheat on test during class. Then they would fail there classes because they are either A caught cheating or B not doing any work because they are too distracted. Then angry parents would call the school because they are upset that their children's grades, and then the school would be blamed. So it would just...

Fun Blocking In Schools

...Fun Blocking Schools across the United States over the past few years have tried integrating technology into classrooms. Of course to have technology they need to have internet for most things to work. Schools must block certain websites so students do not get distracted. These websites would be like social medias, inappropriate websites, and websites that could communicate with other people. Schools block these websites because they are distracting for kids in the classroom, students can could talk to strangers and endanger them and the school, and certain websites could damage the computer by viruses. When having the option to listen to the teacher or get on their phones most students will get on their phones. It might seem that schools wouldn’t have to block social media considering they could go on during a nonintrusive time but, students will still check their social media feeds during class. The school must block social media because those apps are most used on a student's phone. “92% of teens that are ages 13-17 and have a phone go online to social media everyday” (Teens and Social Media). Students will also go on other websites to look at online shopping. If students can not access these websites to get distracted then they can pay attention better....

...The desks and tables in one room are clustered and arranged around the border of the room which allows for ease of movement. On the other side the group table and library are arranged around the border of the room and even with the scattered desks there is also room for movement because of the large room. The students who have their desks scattered within the room are there because they either get distracted easily or are a distraction to others. The few who are a distraction to others are far apart are individualized for their needs. If they are around others they feel the need to act out to get attention. Having their desks farther away from others does not allow them to speak with other students or even see them if they are sitting at their desk properly. The students have access to book in the library and on the front table there are pencils and any assignment that they are given for the day. Their computers are all in a cart behind the teacher’s desk that they can get to easily if they need to access it. ...who is becoming distracted during his independent work in his classroom. He is sitting up close near the board per his IEP; however he is still struggling with daily distractions that is preventing him from completing his tasks. Based on class observations, I decided to sit in the seat where Edward sits to see if I could identify anything that could be a hindrance. Almost immediately, I noticed that to the right of Edward's seat was a big window that overlooked the playground. Thinking back, I can recall that anytime a class is outside for recess I have to call on Edward to focus. Lowering the blind on this window and closing them will eliminate this distraction for not only Edward but also for all the students. Another distraction I noticed by sitting in his seat was the class computer. The bright ocean screen-saver with all the different pictures and sounds was a definite distraction. This was the first time I thought of the computer as a distraction, so I immediately changed the screen-saver to something that was not bright, with no pictures of sounds. Lastly, Edward is in the pathway of the students and the trash can. Every time the students or myself throws something away, Edward only pays attention to them and their journey to the trash. I have decided to move the classroom trash can to the back of the class near my desk to eliminate this as well. Maximizing Access:Because of where Edward sits, I don't know if we are maximizing access with him in our classroom. Because Edward...

...Students learn better in an educational environment rather than in their comfort area. Things that are obtained in a classroom like the competitiveness to beat one another, healthy interactions, difference in opinion, and just the feeling of accomplishment cannot be achieved through a computer screen. The department of education should not be funding the experimental online school. The experiment provides students to work from home with distractions, the lack of ambition, and it does not offer them with the right interactions that he or she will need. This would also be a bad idea in the sense of students cheating. Who would know if the student is actually taking the test or doing the courses by themselves or not having a the study guide and web site open in another tab on the computer during the test. The educational department should not provide funding for this experimental online school due to the fact that it 's easier for student to be distracted and procrastinate when they're at home rather than in a classroom. First, students will become more distracted because they're at home in an environment that may not be fit for a student to be taking online courses and can be doing whatever they want while they're supposed to be taking tests and doing the courses. Then, it's easier to procrastinate if there's no one to encourage them. They'll just keep putting it off thinking oh ill get it done tomorrow then tomorrow comes, and they put it off another day. The cycle just keeps...

Online vs Classroom Education

...Online learning Vs. Classroom Learning When you’re watching T.V do you ever notice the entire commercial that they put out about going to college and doing your homework in your jammies eating cereal? I know I do. There are many different ways that you can obtain a higher education degree or certificate. You have choices of learning in a classroom environment, you can choose to take courses online, or you can choose to take both and see what option best fits your lifestyle or schedule. When choosing between which paths to take always remember that online learning is not as effective as sitting in a classroom environment because it is taking away the experience of getting direct and immediate hands on learning. In class when you’re faced with a misunderstanding or a problem or a situation; then you can get the immediate help that you need before you get any more confusion than what’s taking place in your mind. It also allows the instructor to see the facial expressions or reactions of the student to the information that has or is being given out. Also, when working in a group or working on a project it usually means that you have to interact with other people and get to know their learning styles’ and techniques. Depending on the project you have to get to know them on a cultural level and getting to know their beliefs. When you take an online course your faced with working alone and you don’t really get to interact with anyone except the...

Bad Habits Created Through Technology

...It distracts us all the time, in the classroom, on the road and during everyday life interactions. Although it is hard to argue that the advancements of technology can be bad there is proof that it has distracted people from the simple things in life that are necessities to focus on. In todays society text messaging is the most common way of getting in touch with people, however cellphones are becoming a major distraction. Texting has become so severe that people would rather sit on their phones and talk to certain people then talk to the actual people they are with. Everyday I notice a peer texting during class, they become glued to their phone and are not aware of the conversation happening around them. All over Plymouth and all other college campuses students are constantly distracted by texting in the class room. As texting becomes more common so does texting and driving, which “caused around 1.3 million crashes in 2011”(text statistics). and has significantly increased since then. It should be common courtesy to keep your phone away while driving to protect others, however millions of people are doing it every day because they are addicted. The constant use of cellphones in todays society continues to increase and with that phones have taken over the classroom and the road. Most teenagers these days have “Smart Phones” which are phones that are able to access the internet, play games, text, and take photos. The most common smartphone’s on the market are the Iphone and the...

...courses, and I also interviewed two instructors with unique teaching styles and asked them their opinions about whether should allow their students use laptops during lectures. The reason I did this report is that I have seen many students bring their laptops to class for different purposes, and also realized that college teachers have different policies on the use of personal electronic devices. I observed student’s behavior in several classes, 70% of the students brought electronic devices to class, which only 20% of them actually used them for class related work. I also interviewed two instructors about their attitude of using laptops during class. One of them believed that it was helpful and convenient for students take notes on the computer and follow up with course materials. The other teacher argued that it was distractive to others if some students use their laptops to do non-class activities and was also disrespectful to the instructor. The conclusion of this report turned out to be very controversial. Indeed, the results showed that many students use their electronic devices in class for different purposes other than study. There are both benefits and drawbacks for letting students use laptop during class. Classroom Computers

...Classroom Computers Our local school district has finally passed a new technology initiative. Basically, they would like to place, in each classroom at our school, two computers for student use. This proposal, however, is being rejected by the teachers here, because the computers will be limited. They instead want to place all of the computers together, in two special computer labs. The district isn’t happy because of the extra cost and room they will have to provide to accommodate the computers. The teachers and the district are now arguing over which plan to incorporate into the system here. I support the teachers’ proposition, because this idea would be for the good of the whole school. Firstly, placing the computers in two special classrooms would make it easier on the teachers. They would have an easier time teaching their students all at once, instead of two at a time, as the district’s plan implies with two computers in a classroom. The teachers would not have to repeat themselves, but merely supervise the students as the students complete an assignment or learn more about computers. This would make learning faster, so that teachers would not have to go through the tedious task of staying on one assignment for a week or so. An average class is made up of around twenty-six or twenty-eight students. Two at a time would mean that some students would not gain computer experience, or that teachers would have to be good at quick detailed repetition of directions...

Increasing salaries will keep teachers at the school longer, will allow them to not worry so much about finances, and will show them how much we actually value them. Technology: Advantage or Hindrance

...other high tech gadgets that our public schools have, technology has changed dramatically since I graduated in May of 1998. I believe the exponential growth in technology in education is causing our students to be more distracted during class, causing school budgets to be overwhelmed, and it is causing students to loose traditional skills. First, technology in education is causing our students to be more distracted in class. Technology creates a need to multitask. Studies have shown that multitasking when learning something new or working on a project distracts from complete learning. (Study Dog, 2012) When students are using their cellphones, IPADs, or laptops in class, are they actually using them for note taking, researching topics, or other educational activities? According to a report conducted by the Chronicle of Higher Education indicates that students taking laptops to classrooms might appear to be taking notes, but actually were doing activities unrelated to class work such as sending emails or using the internet. (Wiehoff, 2013) I often used my laptop in class to take notes. However, I remember seeing students watching Youtube or on their Facebook page. Now the student is not paying full attention and it is affecting students glancing at his computer to see what he is doing. I know that some of my critics would say that technology gives the students instant access to relative topics being...
