...each held significant meaning. Each quote was important in its own way which made this story memorable. A line from the book that stood out to me was said to Doug in one of his many low moments. His science teacher, Mr. Ferris, said: “It means, Doug Swieteck, that in this class you are not your brother”. When his teacher comforted him with these words, most of the small town of Marysville was blaming his brother with the recent robbery at a local store. Everyone was treating him as poorly as if he was truly the criminal and his mentality was contagious. The message this quote is portraying is that even though the town was under the impression that Doug is a bad person, it didn't mean that he was. Mr. Ferris explained that the basic principle of science is that two bodies cannot occupy the same space at the same time. His meaning behind this is that just because...

...Doug likes to take 12 weeks to peak, but it could vary a little because of an injury or something but this is the basic cycle he likes to follow. The first four weeks he uses 4 sets of 6 reps in the bench press. On the 4th set he goes limit. He uses each rep as a 5-pound indicator for his next workout. He starts the cycle at 400 lbs. Example – 400 x 6, 400 x 6, 400 x6, 400 x limit (e.g. 10) So, from the last set, five pounds for each rep over six would work out to (10 reps minus 6) 4 times 5 (five pound for each rep over six)equals 20 (pounds more next workout). Example (next workout) – 420 x 6, 420 x 6, 420 x 6, 420 x 8. Many 4-20’s! Then, by following the same plan – 2 reps more than 6 in the last set equals a 10 lb. weight increase at the next workout. The highest he has reached in this program is 470 pounds for 4 sets of 6. These workouts fall twice a week of every fourth day, as desired and as his work schedule with the railroad with the railroad with the railroad allows. After 4 weeks Doug goes to a double program. One workout is the same 4 sets of 6, and the next workout is 5 sets of 3. This runs for 4 weeks or up to 4 weeks before the meet. At that time he does only 5 sets of 3 for 2 weeks. 2 weeks before the meet he goes to 5 sets of 2, timing it where he gets three workouts in but rests for five days before the meet. In past programs he had done one limit set of reps at the end of his workout with anywhere from 50 to 100 lbs. under what he was working with his...

...Hadoop Distribution Comparison Tiange Chen The three kinds of Hadoop distributions that will be discussed today are: Apache Hadoop, MapR, and Cloudera. All of them have the same goals of performance, scalability, reliability, and availability. Furthermore, all of them have advantages including massive storage, great computing power, flexibility (Store and process data whenever you want, instead of preprocess before storing data like traditional relational databases. And it enables users to easily access new data sources including social media, email conversations, etc..), fault tolerance (One node fails, jobs still works on other nodes because data is replicated to other nodes in the beginning, so the computing does not fail), low cost (Use commodity hardware to store data), and scalability (More nodes, more storage, and little administration.). Apache Hadoop is the standard Hadoop distribution. It is open source project, created and maintained by developers from all around the world. Public access allows many people to test it, and problems can be noticed and fixed quickly, so their quality is reliable and satisfied. (Moccio, Grim, 2012) The core components are Hadoop Distribution File System (HDFS) as storage part and MapReduce as processing part. HDFS is a simple and robust coherency model. It is able to store large amount of information and provides steaming read performance. However, it is not strong enough in the aspect of easy management and seamless integration...

...Social Mobility Paper Steven Simmons Sr. Sociology 100 May 3, 2010 Sally Wickers Social Mobility Changes from generation to generation are the norm in the evolution of life. Things in society are not the same between child and parent or between parent and grandparent. The laws change to make life better for the citizens. Jobs, education, fashion, technology and politics all change as times goes on. The commonalities shared between my grandparents, parents and myself are few and far in between. The music I listen to today is not the same type of music my parents listened to. The type of education I receive today is nowhere near the type of music my grandparents listened to. The world changes all the time and we as people have to adjust to change or we will be left behind to become extinct. My grandmother graduated from high school then graduated from Grambling State University with two degrees, a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree. My grandmother worked as a teacher for 30 plus years before retiring. My grandmother was born and raised in Arcadia, Louisiana. She moved to Sacramento, California for several years then decided to move back to Grambling Louisiana, where she currently resides. My grandmother is a church going women, who attends the Church of Christ. She had three boys and five girls. She is a loving grandmother and always has been. She did not and does not condone physical correction. She believed in talking to us and allowed our conscience to convict...

...Death Race Have you ever wanted something so bad that you would do anything to get it? The movie “Death Race” portrays Warden Hennessey as a self centered woman who basically posses all control of the inmates in her maximum security prison. She has her mind set on only the success of her pay-per-view show and money. Warden Hennessey consciously uses ethical objectivism all throughout the movie by analyzing symbolic objects, her ability to cause havoc, and ultimately her ability to control others. An object in this movie that plays a major role in proving Warden Hennessey’s ethical objectivism is Frankenstein’s mask. The mask is used to disguise Jensen Ames as Frankenstein in order to keep viewers of the show more interested. Without the mask, Warden Hennessey would have been unable to keep the viewers from seeing that there is a new driver and that would have hurt the show’s ratings because Frankenstein was so close to gaining his freedom back with four wins. Without the mask it would have almost been like starting all over and the show would lose interest. The mask is used entirely because of the show. Another object that helps show Warden Hennessey uses absolutism in the movie is a photograph. She gives Ames a picture of his infant daughter being held by her new dad that just adopted her. The Warden only does this to try to guilt Ames to give into more of her selfish orders. Ames holds onto this picture for the remainder of the film and looks at it regularly to remind...

Two neighbors make a wager on who will be the first to have a lush lawn. Mr. Fast N. Furious knows that a lawn will not grow without grass seed, so he immediately buys the most expensive seed he can find because everyone knows that quality improves with price. Besides, he will recover the cost of the seed through his wager. Next, he stands knee deep in his weeds and tosses to seed around his yard. Confident that he has a headstart on his neighbor, who is not making much visible progress, he begins his next project. Ms. Slo N. Steady, having grown up in the country, proceeds to clear the lot, till the soil, and even alter the slope of the terrain to provide better drainage. She checks the soil’s pH, applies weed killer and fertilizer, and then distributes the grass seed evenly with a spreader. She applies a mulch cover and waters the lawn appropriately. She finishes several days after her neighbor, who asks if she would like to concede defeat. After all, he does have some blades of grass poking up already...

In this edition, we talk with Doug Levandowski, the co-designer of Gothic Doctor, about player choice, balancing powerful cards, endgame triggers and more. The rules for Gothic Doctor tell players to remove any action cards they want to before starting the game. Why? Gothic Doctor is a broad enough game that it could be good for younger gamers or gamers more interested in a light experience--and with the Partial Treatments variation in the expansion, it can be good for players who want...

...Summer Reading- Post 2 of ? : "To be a Scientist, you must always read" TL;DR - Science teachers should get students to read more scientific articles / information because it is their job, and what is best for kids. Reading aloud is one technique that I would like to use more, both to break down the culture of fear surrounding being wrong, and to add life and excitement to material that may otherwise seem listless or boring to some students. In his book "Teach Like A Champion" Doug Lemov discusses techniques to optimize your students' classroom experience. One such technique that caught my eye was "Control The Game". Upon first reading the title, I assume this was going to be something about classical classroom management. That it was going to be some psychobabble regarding being the dominant presence in the room, or some such other thing. Imagine my surprise when right from the byline it states "Ask students to read aloud frequently, but mange the process to ensure expressiveness, accountability, and engagement."...

...Author Doug Linder’s article, “The Trial of Jesus: An Account” provides a lengthy overview of not only the trial of Jesus Christ but also a historical background review of Rome and Jerusalem. The author’s article may be difficult to read if one stands strong in his or her own view of what happened to Jesus Christ and he addresses that problem early in the article. This article does not challenge the existence of Christ or what Jesus stood for in his beliefs but rather the events that led up to Christ being nailed to the cross. Linder states that the majority of the general understanding of the events that happened around 2,000 years ago were documented by Christians, who he believed, did not “witness” Jesus Christ’s final days on Earth. This article grabbed my attention very early into reading it because I agree with his points that I have listed above....

...Request For Permission To Pursue Research |Paychex, Inc | |Memo To: Frank Fiorille, Director CC: Michael Silsbee, Risk Management Supervisor: Doug Baxter, Credit and Banking Risk Manager From: Danielle Cole Date: 3/16/2010 Re: Request for research proposal Request for Approval I’d like your approval for me to continue with my research on the benefits of switching to a lockbox for our invoice payments. In this memo, you will find some of the highlighted benefits that I feel will help you make your decision for me to continue with this research. A lockbox is a P.O. Box that is set up with our bank that our customers will be able to send their payments too. The bank has a machine that will open, sort and process the checks. Once the day’s checks are processed, the bank will create a file and send it to us. The Information Technology will load the file into our Oracle system and once the nightly processes run, the file will post automatically into our billing system. In my initial research of the benefits of switching to a lockbox, I have found many advantages. Switching to a lockbox could mean a reduction in costs, less errors, it would be more time efficient, and we would have an easier look up process. Switching to a lockbox could save us money by possibly reducing our head count. We have the potential to reduce our head count by two people. We could also save money because we could cut out fuel reimbursement casts. If we had a lockbox, the people...
