...A STEPPING STONE FOR A BIG DREAM A newly graduate high school student nowadays wonders what appropriate course to take. Some take up courses that their parents want them to take while others choose what their friends choose too. Before I took up Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology at University of La Salette, my primary reason was that I wanted to be a doctor and they say Medical Technology is the best pre-med course. However, as months passed by, I started to realize that it was a best choice to take medical technology because the modernized medical technology can give me the power to be able to answer some questions such as how it is possible to treat and look after an unconscious patient with simply knowing what is going on inside his/her body without any surgery which can make a very big difference to any surgical treatments. Imagining my life as a Medical Technologist few years from now gives me an unexplainable excitement to know how it became too possible that even one of the world’s most powerful explosives can eventually be used to treat heart conditions and also how one of the most dangerous poisons could save people’s lives. Through the technology now used by Medical Technologists, I will be able to understand those kinds of unbelievable instance clearly. If I become Medical Technologist, my work-related learning is much more than the job opportunity. I also believe that it is the most accurate opportunity that involves knowledge and skills in pursuing my future...

...Everyone has their own dreams. No matter big or small, each and everyone of us has one. Dreams are something we can fathom, anything our heart desires, anything at all. In life, we were told to pursue our dreams, by our parents, our teachers, and also our friends. To others, my dreams seemed unreal. Just aimless thoughts in my mind. But to me, my dreams are what I want to be in the future because I know, there is no limit to a dream. Initially, like any other little kids, I wanted to be what everyone wants to be. During that time, everyone wanted to be a policeman. I consider it a very noble job for someone to do because it involves the safety of people around them. But nevertheless, that dream did not went on for long. As I grew up, I knew more about dreams and ambition. From that point of my life, I told myself to have a dream which I would put effort to achieve it. Because dreams are what you want to be in the future. So, I decided to set my goals and put in my best efforts. I wanted to be a pilot. Because since I was a small young boy, i was already in love with aviation. I was amazed by the fact that some metal based structure could soar high in the skies. As i grew up, i knew i wanted to be a part of it. ...Joshua A. Reyes English 17: Public Speaking and Debate How to study smart? Ninety-nine percent! Can anyone tell me what this number stands for? This figure corresponds to the average grade an ordinary student craves for. I myself also wanted to reach a grade that is as high as ninety-nine. And, honestly you too dreamt of having a mark that is close to perfect one, right? Yes, of course. Today, people continue to search new discoveries that will improve the human life. This is the scenario that everyone expects—to improve, and so with our grades. Every student is expected to get a high rating, but in reality this ninety-nine percent that we like becomes seventy-nine percent or even seventy-five percent. It is really hard to acquire such high grades, but each one of us can make the impossible possible. Everybody has the capability to turn seventy-five into ninety-five or beyond. But how can we do that? To our teacher, Ma’am Clara Gonzales, and to my beloved classmates, a pleasant afternoon to each and everyone of you. Getting a high grade is difficult to do. However, “difficult” is not a word of a student who studies in a smart way. So, how to study smart? These are two principles I know that could make us study smart. First, “be responsible.” There is a quotation that goes this way, “There is no hard task in a responsible person. Being responsible for me is not being an “all-day and all-night studying” student. Rather, being responsible is being able to...

...When I was little, the fantasy behind the main character’s dreams was beyond magical that it took my heart for all Disney movies and all their songs. One of the main themes the film Cinderella (1950) portrays is how the “Dreams come true.” However, when I watched Cinderella (1950) again, my attention was brought to this one scene of Cinderella at the grand ball (51:24-56:00). Disney put out a branched out theme of when the main character’s dreams come to face the reality. The scene starts with Cinderella dancing with her Prince Charming at the ball to a soft music that allows both sense of magic and elegance to step in. This diegetic music played by the orchestra at the ball goes well with Cinderella’s flowy dress as she smoothly slides across the fancy floor. In the music, the heavy bass played by Cello gives a palatial feeling. Also when the couple starts dancing, the spotlight is turned on them, which makes it seem like if Cinderella is dreaming which related to Disney’s theme “Dreams come true.” In the middle of the dance, some diegetic sound is added to the music when the scene switches over to the king and his doorman. In this quick shot, not only they have a quick dialogue but also a breaking noise of the doorman’s magnifying glasses. After dancing at the ball, Cinderella and Prince Charming gracefully dances out to the garden where they are by themselves. During the scene, the diegetic music played by the orchestra slows down as Cinderella starts humming. However...

... “The American Dream” concept started many centuries ago. When foreigners came to America, the land of hope and opportunity, they all got settled in. Some earned a lot of money and some went from poor foreigner to poor American. In America there is so much inequality when it comes to rich versus poor. That is why America is the only land where it’s possible to have an “American Dream” concept. Take for instance here in Denmark. Whether we like it or not the society won’t allow people to stand out because of the Jantelov. According to The American Dream, anything is possible if you put your very heart and soul into it. The idealistic vision of the American Dream also assumes that people are not discriminated against on the basis of race, religion, gender, and national origin. Take for instance Arnold Schwarzenegger. As a boy he dreamt about being big in the way that people would listen to hear what he had to say. He also dreamed about being an American. All he knew was that America was a wonderful country. He was a young, poor Austrian man when he came to America. He dreamt about being the best in the world at bodybuilding, and after 5 years of hard work, he became Mr. Universe, the best built man in the world. He took business classes in economics, accounting and math. How does one achieve the American Dream? The answer undoubtedly depends upon one’s definition of the Dream, and there are many from which to choose. People’s visions of the American Dream have changed over...

...“Analysis dreaming according to the dream activation synthesis theory” The activation-synthesis theory explains us that the messages of dreams are not a meaning. They are only processing of brain system when we sleep. The chemicals in the brain transmit message from one nerve cell to another. This electrical energy randomly stimulates memories found in various area of the brain. Also, we have a need to make sense of our world and even while asleep. The brain takes these chaotic memories and creates a logical story line. This theory best explains my dream which I will describe as follows. In my dream, I met giant cockroaches which were taller than I was. I felt very scared because they were very big and they tried to attack me. I ran fast but I could not escape since there were many of them. Then I woke up with a start. On another day, I dreamed that I was driving on the road skillfully and quickly. While I drove past many cars from left to right and right to left, I felt very proud of my driving skill. Therefore, I will show the relation between real life and dream. In the first case, I had seen a cockroach while taking a shower before going to bed. It ran to my leg, and I very do not like them. That represents my concerns about cockroaches and I clearly remember according to the activation synthesis theory. The second dream happened when I was young. I wanted to be a sports car driver in that time because I thought it was very smart. Also at that time, I think about them...

...a celebrity has fame and fortune but along on the other hand comes the negative aspects. Celebrities do have the status to motivate people, the money to look stunning, and the wealth to make change in the world. However, their lives are less then perfect, and this price of fame is shown through the stress, depression, substance abuse, rumors, continuos media scrutiny, and the inability to enjoy a normal, private life. Celebrity's lives show society that what... Most people dream of fame and fortune, at least when they are young. When we are chil¬dren, the sky is the limit to our dreams. We dream of becoming a famous athlete, a movie star, governor of our state, or maybe even President of the United States. There is nothing wrong with such dreams. All of today’s superstars were once small children with big dreams, and some of to¬day’s children who are having such dreams will eventually have their dreams come true. As we grow up and grow older, most of us begin to narrow down our range of dreams to things we feel are realistic for us, but we dare not underestimate our abilities or sell ourselves short. And whatever we ultimately become, we can aspire to be good at what we do. Most people do not want to end up just being an ordinary or common person but, in a sense, that is what most of us are, and we can be proud of what and who we are no matter what our station in life. I have always liked Lincoln’s quote about God loving the common man, because I believe that it...

...takes…”(p.84). Veronica Yonker, a seventeen-year old girl, who dreams big in the post-apartheids era, may have just been the breakthrough for many young strong women of South Africa. These words, coming from a white man( the AUTHOR), was the last boost she needed to go get and live her biggest dream in Johannesburg, as a black girl coming from the Valley. Veronica was born and grew up in the Valley, in the shadows of her mother and grandfather, but in the light of her loving grandfather. Being the sweet, innocent, obedient and respectful child, as she was, pleasing her grandfather and growing up, in the same way her mother did, she was not stuck in her past. She had her own dreams- and dreaming big, she did- and plans for her own future. And reaching these dreams was her passion. Especially her dream of becoming a famous singer. Veronica, not being stuck in her past, strengthens her believes in reaching her dream. She wants to do things differently than in the past “… and all that talk that was going on about how things was going to change and be different from now on.”(p. ). And by this means, not ending up spending her future days, cleaning and scrubbing floors in a white man’s house “…you will never see me on my knees scrubbing a white man’s floor”(p.68). This, however, was the planned future for most of the young black women in that time, especially those living on a farm. But Veronica Yonker had this dream and passion, that carried her through every day and through every...
