...Research Paper Every plant is different. There are no two plants that are the same, nor are there two that grow the same way. Some plants grow in hot, dry environments while others grow in cold, damp environments. Some plants grow in the tropical rain forests while others grow in prairies. Even plants that are in the same family can grow in different climates and environments. Plants can be as similar as they are different. Plants need certain factors to be able to thrive in an environment. They need certain levels of water and sunlight. They need a certain type of soil and certain amount of shade. Plants are very picky on how, when and where they grow. The Beavertail Cactus, African Lilly, and Boston fern are three plants that are very different in many ways. They all grow in different regions and require different levels of abiotic factors. They are each unique in their own way and are ever different then the species in their families. The Beavertail Cactus is a part of the cactaceae, cactus family. It has a scientific name of Opuntia basilaris. The cactus is the state cactus of Texas. The lifespan of it is over twenty years. Another name that the Beavertail Cactus is referred to is “Prickly Pear.” It is referred by that name because of the fruit that grows on it. ...of Tomato Fruits S. R. ADAMS*, K. E. COCKSHULL and C. R. J. CAVE Horticulture Research International, Wellesbourne, Warwick CV35 9EF, UK Received: 6 April 2001 Returned for revision: 1 June 2001 Accepted: 13 July 2001 Tomato fruits ripened 95, 65, 46 and 42 d after Øower opening when plants were grown under controlled environ- mental conditions at 14, 18, 22 and 26 8 C, respectively. A similar response to temperature was observed when the temperature of individual trusses was modiÆed while the plants were grown at 20 8 C. These data were used to develop a thermal time model for fruit maturation. However, when buds/fruits were heated at dierent stages in their development, the thermal time model proved to be a poor predictor of the time of ripening. Fruits were more sensitive to elevated temperature in their later stages of maturation. Temperature also aected the rates of fruit growth in volume; these could be adequately described using a Gompertz function. Low temperatures reduced absolute volume growth rates and delayed the time at which the absolute growth rate became maximal. However, the response of fruit growth to temperature diered when only the temperature of the fruits was modiÆed. There was a tendency towards small parthenocarpic fruits at both high (26 8 C) and low (14 8 C) temperature regimes which, combined with low Øower numbers and poor fruit set at 26 8 C, resulted in low fruit yields. Temperature also aected the shoot dry matter content...

...For the following assignment I have chosen kiwi fruit as my source of concentration and focus. As I started to explore this object, first I have decided to focus on the outer appearance. Just by looking at the kiwi fruit, the shape that I noticed is oval or cylindrical, kind of egg-shaped fruit, a little similar to lemon size, with the two ends on each side. It is also pretty clean and uniform in shape, meaning that it’s not wrinkled or shriveled as I look at it. Skin of the fruit is covered with the thin, short, and fuzzy little hair, almost like it’s wrapped with moss that is of brown color with the dark green layer underneath of it that is evidently flat and plain. The overall color of kiwi is a mixture of brown with dark green. As I grabbed a fruit in order to touch it and hold it, I experienced that the whole fruit is very soft and pleasant due to its hairy texture. I also felt that it is dry and subtle as well, so the fuzz present on the surface of the fruit tends to fall down while touching it. Although it seems pretty soft while holding the kiwi in hands, when I put the fruit closer to my face and touched it with my cheek, I felt a little rough skin of the kiwi fruit. When I held kiwi, I noticed that the fruit itself is massive and heavy; I would say that it was almost like holding an egg. When I squeezed it, it got softer for a moment and automatically came back to its original shape because its stable texture makes that even while pressing on it, the shape stays the...

Green grass and colorful flowers bloomed from all directions. In the early stages of my growth as an avocado tree, I began to better sense and respond to chemicals in the air. I knew that my existence was essential because other organisms depended on me for their survival. The multitude of bees, the squirrels, and even the spiders, found food and shelter within my branches. I could sense the positivity and peace emitting from a creature, that used to produce such beautiful noise for ten minutes a day while rubbing my trunk. ...USED COOKING OIL AND BANANA PEEL EXTRACT AS AN ALTERNATIVE SHOE POLISHER Researcher: Chelsea T. Sandoval Chapter I INTRODUCTION A. Background of the Study Nowadays, Shoe polish is widely used by people especially by students, office workers, etc. on their leather shoes. But the commercial shoe polishers were made of chemicals which can harm human’s health if used recklessly. Many people are interested in using a safer alternative for polishing their leather shoes but few people didn’t realize that they have everything they need in their homes already. Various substances have been used as shoe polish for hundreds of years, starting with natural substances such as wax and tallow. Modern polish was introduced early in the 20th century and some products from that era are still in use today. The purpose of this study is make an alternative shoe polisher and to conduct an investigation/experimentation on how to use used cooking oil and banana peels in a very convenient, practical and useful way. This study is used to lessen the chemical use in the society and to maintain a greener environment. B. Statement of the Problem General problem: This study seeks the feasibility of used cooking oil and banana peels extract as an effective shoe polisher. Sub-problems: 1.) How to make the solution. 2.)
