...E-Cigarettes Cigarette smoking is perhaps the world’s worst addiction. This health hazard has been and continues to ravage millions of humans cutting across the boundaries of civilization, geography, economy and social strata. It not only, sooner or later, kills the smoker, but, has negative effects on the passive smoking community as well. Having said that, we must bear in mind that quitting smoking is one of the most difficult things for a smoker. The addiction is so overpowering that the smoker is, willingly or unwillingly, driven back to the death stick. It is truly a herculean task to kick the habit, once and for all. Electronic cigarettes or E-cigarettes, as they are popularly known, are one of the many devices tried out by smokers to give up smoking. These come in variety of sizes and shapes – cigarettes, cigars, pipes, ballpoint pens, screwdrivers etc. Both disposable and refillable models exist. The quintessential idea is that the actual experience of smoking a tobacco cigarette is simulated, as closely as possible, in the E-cigarette, to retain the sense of déjà vu. E-liquid or the nicotine solution is the combustible medium used. The solution is generally flavored in the traditional tobacco smoke aroma as also in newer strains such as chocolate, vanilla, wine and so on. The flavoring, nicotine and the polypropylene glycol (which creates the visible smoke) is called the E-liquid. When the e-cigarette is smoked, the liquid is heated using...

...Electronic cigarettes, or e-cigarettes, have gained a considerable amount of popularity in the United States since its introduction. These hand-held, battery-powered devices initiate the appearance and function of a conventional cigarette. This is done when the atomizer heats up the solution and provides a nicotine vapor, instead of smoke, to the user (Mayo Clinic, 2013). Many of the manufacturers of electronic cigarettes boast the safety of these products although there are little evidence supporting that claim. Nevertheless, people continue to purchase them, and it is important to start implementing stricter policies on them. The Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act of 2009 gives the FDA authority to regulate the marketing, manufacture and sale of tobacco products (Products, 2013), but the original intent of the FDA is to regulate electronic cigarettes as therapeutic drug delivery devices because of the contents of the liquid. In 2010 the United States District Court of Appeals declares that electronic cigarettes should be considered tobacco products (Grana, 2013). Unfortunately, since this declaration, the FDA has not exercised regulatory authority over electronic cigarettes. A main reason for this is partly due to the government shutdown in October. Prior to this, the FDA has taken steps to provide a proposed rule to the Office of Management and Budget, which is currently reviewing it (Staff, 2013). In the absence of FDA regulation many states, localities...

...Cigarettes Are Bad In today’s world you see cigarettes almost everywhere. There are cigarette breaks at work, and people saying “Man I really need a cigarette after that.” This is great for the big tobacco companies, but not for the cigarette smokers themselves. More people become smokers every day, which means more and more people die each year from smoking cigarettes. Smoking can cause multiple different cancers. Smoking also increases heart rate and blood pressure, and strains the heart, which can cause a heart attack or stroke. Tar build up can also occur and it rips through your lungs like soot in a chimney, and can cause lung cancer. Smoking can also cause many diseases including emphysema, bronchitis, etc. Some people today are trying to find ways to stop smoking. Some ways include patches, gum, and medicines. Sure, scientists have made an impact on spreading the cons of smoking, but each day someone continues to light up, and each day someone new dies from long term smoking. Sarah A. Belstock, at Norris Health Center in the Health Promotion Services Department, and other authors, have spoken about advertising that influences health-related behaviors of college-aged individuals. Cigarette industries market to the youngest people that are able to buy cigarettes, college students. Most people are aware of the parties and alcohol consumption in college, so the big tobacco companies have started using alcohol in their advertisements to relate to the college students (Belstock...
