7. HEALTH PROMOTION
The research work is on the impact of economic factors on health promotion. The research was carried out on an elderly patient with limited income, who have to decide which of the medications he will get refilled due to lack of income. Literally it means he is taking half of his medications prescribed by the physician or nurse practitioner.
Another scenario is that of a community health nurse promoting health in Oak Park a low-income area. As she does her visit she realized that there is no grocery shop that sells fresh fruits and vegetables in Oak Park. She decided to carry out health education on nutrition with families as caseload, the response from all the families is that local convenience stores only stocked prepared …show more content…
It raises individual awareness, and giving the health knowledge needed to decide on a specific health action. Health education helps to motivate individuals to accept a process of behavioral change by directing influencing their beliefs, values and attitude systems, while health promotion involves social, economic, and political change to make sure the environment is conducive to health. It is important that nurse should educate an individual based on his health need, but it is equally important for the nurse to play a role in trying to address the wider environmental and social issues that adversely affect the health of the …show more content…
Many authors have argued that health education is a component of health promotion. Of a truth health education is an integral part of health promotion in nursing traditional role. However, it is not just enough to be coached to change behavior by health care provider, because oftentimes, patients would have attempted changing behavior before consulting health care provider, so developing a comprehensive understanding of what they want to change, what they have tried before now, and their difficulties to change is vital to achieving better outcome.
9. HOME VISITING
Does a home visiting program in Early Childhood have sustained effects on development and school readiness? The research was carried out on 18-month early childhood intervention for poor children in 96 semi-urban municipalities in Colombia in 2010-2011. Mothers of young children received weekly home visits in which they were taught how to play and talk to their children. Some also received nutritional supplements for their children, while one group received nutritional supplements alone.
The first follow-up survey in 2011 showed that the stimulation made the children gain cognitive development and in receptive language skills, they develop the ability to understand and process what they hear or read. The
